Chopra gone

Who's that going over the hill Michael Chopra, Michael Chopra and this time he's going for good off to Suffolk and Ipswich. He left once before to Sunderland leaving £5 behind in transfer fees. Premiership Sunderland turned out not the Promised Land and he was loaned out to Cardiff where his fortunes picked up. In the summer of 2009 he rejoined the Bluebirds in a £3 million deal.

The Ipswich deal is worth a rumoured £1.5 million, but official it is undisclosed it is good to see Cardiff actually receive a transfer fee for a player, but this money doesn't look likely to stay in the bank for long. It will not be going to the new manager's transfer pot, but it's on the way up to Sunderland as it is reported Cardiff still owe the Premiership club £1.5 million from the deal back in 2009 that brought Chopra to Cardiff.

OK has of the today the Cardiff City front-line consist of Jon (The Beast) Parking and the untried youngest Nathaniel Jarvis now Cardiff have sold striker Michael Chopra.

Ipswich have finally got their man after a long chase which started in earnest back in May 2010 when the then boss Roy Keane offer £3 million for the striker. It was turned down allow it was rumoured they came back with a £3.5 offer which was turned down the club wanted £4 million. At the time ex-boss Dave Jones and new owners decided to keep their players for a grand push for promotion. From £4 million to £1.5 million is a bit of a drop, but keeping him nearly paid off and if there knew Craig Bellamy would be signing on loan at the time I think they would have sold at the time.

Chopra's agent, Kenny Moyes, confirmed yesterday before the signing his player was keen to sign for Ipswich saying,

"It is still a bit premature, but I know the two clubs have been talking and Michael is keen to join Ipswich,"

Some quotes for these involved today in the deal

Chopra said,

"I enjoyed my time at Cardiff but this is a new start for me at Ipswich and I'm looking forward to it.
"I spoke to the manager and was impressed with his plans for the club. I know some of the players here as well and from talking to them, it was clear there is real ambition at Ipswich.
"I can't wait to get going and the target is to help the club reach the Premier League."

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell added:

"Michael is a top quality striker with a proven track record when it comes to scoring goals.
"He is just the type of player we are looking for to help take this club forward."

Chief executive Simon Clegg said

"We're obviously delighted to have added Michael to the squad. It's a signing that I'm sure will excite our supporters."A week Friday we will know when he will be returning to the Cardiff City Stadium has the new season fixtures are out.

The new boss at Cardiff City when he comes will have a lot to do in rebiulding the team but one thing for the next time Chopra steps out on to the Cardiff City stadium he will have a less few fans cheering him on.
