He was once hot property, linked to the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and AC Milan and worth millions in transfer fee all of which has cooled down. Young defender Adam Matthews is thinking over a new contract he has been offer with only months to go before his old contract is up.
Matthews could walk away in the summer allow Cardiff would be entitled to compensation through the training rule if he doesn’t go abroad. Cardiff is now waiting on the young defender to reply to the offer. If he doesn’t sign he will join Jay Bothroyd and Chris Burke who are waiting until the summer to decide on their futures
In an earlier interview he said,
“I’ve played in quite a few matches this season and I’m making progress.“I have a long way to go to reach my potential and I can’t expect to play every week with quality defenders like Kevin McNaughton and Lee Naylor in front of me.“They both help me a lot and I am learning all the time.“Every young player wants to be involved all the time, but the team are winning games and stand second in the table.“I won’t be moaning about not starting, but I will also be ready if the gaffer needs me. There is a long way to go this season.”
Matthews as only started two games so far this season plus a number off the bench.
