Here we go again according to the Scottish newspaper the Daily Record the Celtic boss Neil Lennon is interested in young Cardiff full-back Adam Matthews and could get for nothing.
Matthews last season was link with Manchester United, Arsenal and even AC Milan, that could have brought a rumoured £5million to the table. He has dropped down the pecking order at the Cardiff City stadium and will be out of contract in the summer and like Joe Ledley can walk away without Cardiff receiving a fee. There is a reported offer on the table and the player and his representatives are talking to the club, but he can still listen to other offers. The thought of losing two valued players (Bothroyd) in the summer for nothing must be worrying to everyone at the club.
Matthews has made only 2 league starts this season compared with the 24 league games last season and has made most of his appearances of the bench. Cardiff boss Dave Jones criticised after the 2-0 defeat at Ipswich early in the season for the own-goal he scored.
Like any player he wants first team football but a move can’t give him a guarantee and loan deal could be a better route but it would only work to Cardiff’s favour if he signs a new contract.
Celtic believe the could get Matthews for as little as £500,000 before the transfer window was to close or sign him up on a pre-contract agreement meaning he would join up with the Scottish club. He has still learning his art and in the further could bring in millions like Aaron Ramsay and Chris Gunter, can Cardiff afford to miss-out again.
