The Chris Kirkland deal has been put on temporary hold according to the South Wales Echo. The Wigan third choice goalkeeper is wanted as cover for Cardiff two senior keepers, David Marshall will be out for the rest of the season after much needed surgery on a long term elbow injury. While current No 1 Tom Heaton is playing with groin trouble leaving only Canadian youngster Jordan Santiago who is yet to make his senior debut.
The reason for the delay to the emergency loan deal his he is suffering from a virus and Cardiff City boss Dave Jones is keen how long he could be out for. Kirkland was at the Cardiff City training ground at the Vale yesterday and will see doctors today. Marshall as been on the bench in case of Heaton was to become injured during a game, but it was not an ideal situation. Jones tried to sign a new goalkeeper during the January transfer window with luck, Preston’s Andy Lonergan was one and there was a rumour that Jones tried a late attempt to sign Republic of Ireland and Manchester City keeper Shay Given.
Both clubs are staying silent.
