Will Parkin be the first January signing

Is Cardiff City about to sign ‘the beast’ of Preston in a £100,000 deal, they are according to press reports. Names linked to the Bluebirds are jumping out of the woodwork with one transfer rumour  and the transfer window has not even opened yet.

The Preston forward Jon Parkin was reported to be in Cardiff some time today having a medical. Like Bothroyd he is out of contract in summer which is why Cardiff could be only £100,000 for a striker. He has netted seven Championship goals in 16 appearances so far this season.

In the Preston local press they are suggesting he complete the move over the weekend with a view to making his debut for Cardiff against Leeds United on Tuesday.

Can City afford Routledge

On the radar of Cardiff City boss is Newcastle winger Wayne Routledge a long time target of the City boss. I won’t be cheap Newcastle are after £2million with all the cash up front – no payment plans. The board are willing to back manager Dave Jones in his transfer requests to a point, but two million up front could be to much
Routledge had a brief loan spell at Cardiff in 2008, scoring two goals in nine games, his style of play gained him quick support amoug the Cardiff fan. Cardiff looked to have agreed a price that the time with his then club Aston Villa of £300,000. The deal looked to be done but at the last minute Routledge rejected the deal. He was told of the interest from QPR and while the two clubs were trashing out a deal over the phone Routledge headed for a meeting at the London club. Later the every same day he turned down the Bluebirds he signed for QPR in a £600,000 and rumour better terms offered by Cardiff .

Cardiff is hoping to do some kind of deal that could bring him to South Wales.

Can Cardiff make a top two spot

What does Cardiff need to win an automatic promotion spot at the end of the season? From the previous six seasons Cardiff have been in the Championship the final league tables points count have been anything but constant.
2009/10 1st Newcastle 102 pts - 2nd West Brom 91 pts
2008/09 1st Wolves 90 pts - 2nd Birmingham 83 pts
2007/08 1st West Brom 81 pts – 2nd Stoke City 79 pts
2006/07 1st Sunderland 88 pts – 2nd Birmingham 86 pts
2005/06 1st Reading 106 pts – 2nd Sheffield United 90 pts
2004/05 1st Sunderland 94 pts – 2nd Wigan 87 pts
Based on the last six seasons 90 points could guarantee a top two finish. With Cardiff having played half of their game 46 league games accruing 40 pts from 23 games, Cardiff need to do better with the next 23 games. Can Cardiff win 17 games out of 23 remaining games?

In this crazy division will any club need 90 points to finish in the top two? Could it be lower than 2007/08 when West Brom just scraped into the 80 points bracket. I don’t believe QPR will run away with the league they will be pegged back, this league is wide up at the moment.

España for Bothroyd

Atletico Madrid or  Malaga

The Spanish are coming according to Sky Sports News with the intention of trying to steal away City striker Jay Bothroyd on a free transfer.

The Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid and Malaga are rumour to be interested on talking to him and his agent about the possibility of agreeing a pre-contract deal to tie him up for a summer move. Being out of contract Bothroyd or is representatives can talk to any club and line themselves up a deal.

Bothroyd has stated many times before that he will not talk about his contract until the summer. He could choose to stay with Cardiff but that would only happen if Cardiff were to gain promotion. If Cardiff were to miss out again could would walk away free with no transfer fee coming Cardiff way.

There are other clubs also rumoured to be in the market and would love to sign him up on a pre-contract deal to save money. However Cardiff boss can’t do much but put in an offer to Bothroyd’s agent like the rest.

On the subject of all the transfer speculation he told the Daily Mirror,
"I’m trying to not let all the speculation affect me, the only things on my mind are to get back from this hamstring niggle and help Cardiff try and reach the Premiership.
"I can’t wait for the transfer window to shut so we can all try and get this club to the Premiership.
"I’m concentrating on my football and am letting my agent deal with the other stuff.
"It’s really important for me not to get distracted from the football and make sure I am fully focused on the job in hand.
"My agent has been speaking with the club over the last few months and we are still talking.
"I’ve made over 100 starts since joining here which is the most I’ve ever played in a 2 year period so the odd niggle is gonna happen but I feel good and will be back to help the boys as soon as possible.
"We were so close last year and it hurt, the fans are giving us great support and we have to try our hardest to get over the finishing line this season.

Latest rumour is Andy O'Brien

Cardiff is being linked with another Premier League player Bolton’s centre-back Andy O’Brien.

O’Brien is on loan with Championship rivals Leeds United and his loan period ends on the 4th January the same day Cardiff play Leeds at the Cardiff City stadium. Leeds is very keen to keep him at Elland Road with Leeds United boss Simon Grayson telling the BBC,

"We would like to try and keep Andy if possible, try at least to extend the loan to the 93 days and then the next option is to extend the loan to the end of season.

"Another option is to try and do a permanent deal, but that all depends on what Bolton want to do with Andy.

"We'll be having a conversation with Bolton and Andy over the next few days to see where we can go with it."
The Republic of Ireland international is understood to have held talks with the Bluebirds in the last few days. Since joining Leeds he has been a permanent fixture in starting line-up and scored a goal.

At the beginning of December O'Brien told BBC Radio Leeds:

"I won't be surprised if they didn't offer me another contract.

"Although I feel I'm playing hard and well here I don't think my progress here will have any bearing on my future at Bolton."
Cardiff would have to pay a fee to grab the centre-back has like most players of his quality I would be surprised if there was no-one else keen to sign him.

Comminges back

Defender Miguel Comminges is back at Cardiff City after his loan spell with Division One Carlisle United failed to produce a permanent deal.

While with Carlisle he only managed 45 minutes of play coming on a half time in the victory of Tamworth in the FA Cup.

Since joining the club in May 20008 now he only managed 31 games in total, must in the early part of his stay in South Wales. It was expected he would have been released in the summer but the club gave him a short team contract has he was recovering from a long term injury. The player will be out of contract in a week or so and has no future with the Bluebirds and will be free to find a new club.

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott said,
"It was good that we had him for a month and he has been alsolutely terrific. He's a really good person and has worked hard from the moment he got here.
"I spoke to him today and told him that we want to make permanent signings that we think are going to be better than what we already have here, and we didn't think that he quite there at this moment in time.
"He accepted that decision really well and it is not going to put him off trying to do something with another club elsewhere.
"We wish him well and we hope that he does get sorted out because he is a genuinely decent man"

How Long Does An Anorexic Live

When no matter the mess Based on hammering

Defeat against bottom side and an image difficult to repeat. Five points and eleven the last position of a European place. The crowd calls - improbable - return to Rafa Benitez and his criticism ejected both players and Roy Hodgson . So Liverpool is about to start the new year 2011. But what will ? On whom lies the blame? We will leave institutional issues to target the 'must' of a team that does not exist when the pitch jumps, which is diluted and is not able to trace passages to a minimum sense of logic and danger.

Starting from the back, and after serious error of + Kyrgiakos Skrtel in the scoring for the Wolves, What is wrong with Liverpool? The decision to or not Carragher (now injured) when Agger-theoretical back-it seems a permanent fixture in elementary. The Dane, eternal through injury, the Reds is what King Vermaelen Arsenal or Tottenham: a large central ballast provided by his physical problems, which leave no yield at an optimal level for several consecutive games, but vastly superior to Carragher. It would not hurt, either, Glen Johnson remind the importance of defensive zone on the side, something that usually mate sin Konchesky.

How long can we expect to see Meireles in a natural position? To heeled right wing and lose each and every one of his virtues it is best to opt for Joe Cole or even keep adding opportunities for Jovanovic and Babel. It's a shame to see how the Portuguese were forced to move to the center, to open space between two rival lines to receive a ball. Lewis has already been settled in the midfield and Gerrard seems the perfect companion (?) As an eleven would be rebuilt where it can locate a decent Raul Meireles. And Maxi? Fair when he had chained it off several decent matches playing at home, despite how much I've criticized. What role occupied by the Argentine?

"Torres Torres accompanied or solo? In December there is still no response, either English or injuries by the number of tests done in the alignments. This time it was to be the partner N'Gog attack and did nothing wrong. But ... we leave, then, Kuyt band without remedy? Having two men in attack, as happened against the Wolves, mines the importance of midfield where the couple is Gerrard, Leiva since two players are not made for the creation, so that attackers tend not to be supplied.

many alternatives have been tested during mid-season and has played but none seems to satisfy Roy Hodgson, who is determined to change the schedule week after week. And all this not to mention opportunities to youth players that are absent except for some minute forced to Eccleston and Martin Kelly. In addition, omit the zero response team when the outcome is adverse, and add the sad number of shots on goal . Pending more options here we left our favorite proposal.

R's on the Road To.......... Norwich City.

On New Years Day the R's travel to high flying Norwich in search of a win to kick start the New Year and follow on from the two fantastic results from the busy Xmas schedule.
Here are a few hints and tips for those travelling fans on Saturday.

Club History.

Photobucket

Norwich were formed in 1902 and originally played their home matches at Newmarket Road until 1908 before moving on to Rosary Road which was originally a disused chalk pit until the new home was built there. In 1935 that ground was no longer big enough due to the rising numbers of crowds so their current home at Carrow Road was built and has remained the home of the club.
In 1917, with the First World War meaning that football was suspened, the clubs spiralling debts meant that they entered voluntary liquidation but in 1919 the club was reformed and in 1920 the club re-joined the Football League when the new Third Division was formed.
Norwich’s first trophy came when they won the Third Division in the 1933/34 season, a trophy that they won once again last season on their way back to The Championship.
Norwich have also won The League Cup on two occasions in 1962 and 1985 as well as being Champions in the second tier on three separate occasions, the last success being on their way back to the Premiership in the 2003/04 season.
Norwich were inaugural members of the Premier league in 1992 and lead the league for most of the season but faltered in the final weeks of the season and ended up finishing third behind Champions Man United and Runners Up Aston Villa. This did secure a UEFA Cup place for the club and in the second round of the competition the clubs greatest result in their history was achieved as Norwich defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 at the Olympic Stadium. Norwich are still the only English team to beat Bayern Munich at the Olympic Stadium.

The Stadium.

Current capacity – 27,033

Photobucket

The ground has virtually been re-built since the 1980’s as all four sides of the ground have new stands.
Norwich moved into Carrow Road in 1935. The ground was the largest construction job in the City Centre since Norwich Castle and was built miraculously in only 82 days! An aerial photograph from August 1935 shows three sides of open terracing and a covered stand, with a Colman's Mustard advertisement painted on its roof, visible only from the air.
The South Stand was the final piece of the reconstruction puzzle and was completed in 2005. This is where the away fans are housed.
The South Stand holds 8,000 fans with an allocation of 2,500 usually going to the visiting supporters.
The Stand has an unusual feature with having not one, but three TV gantries. The stand is very impressive and the views of the pitch are completely unobstructed.
The atmosphere that is generated is usually pretty good and this will be probably one of the most enjoyable away days of the season.

The History between the teams.

At Norwich City (57)

Norwich 31
QPR 9
Draw 17

Rangers’ have never enjoyed travelling to Norwich much over the years and having won there only 9 times in 57 attempts, the stats definitely confirms this.
The R’s enjoyed their last trip to Carrow road in 2008 when they were 1-0 victors courtesy of a Martin Rowlands goal, despite having been reduced to ten men with just 25 minutes gone as Matt Connolly was sent off for two bookable offences.
Before this victory Rangers’ last success at Carrow Road was in a Premiership fixture in 1994 with the final score being a 4-3 to the Superhoops, my how times change!

How to get there.

By Car: - The postcode for Carrow Road is NR1 1JE.
Leave the M25 at junction 27 and head up the M11. Leave the M11 at junction 9 and merge onto the A11. Continue down the A11 for about 50 miles and then when you get to a roundabout with a junction for the A47. 5 miles up the road at the traffic lights branch left onto the A146. From here the ground is well signposted and you will come across a number of car parks.
The best place to park is the Norfolk County Hall, it is well signposted and is at the bottom of the A146. It costs about £3 to park here. Its advised that you get there for about 1pm to secure a decent parking spot and by 2pm its usually full so get there early to avoid disappointment,

By Train: - The ground is a 5-10 minute walk from the station. From the station turn left and head for the Morrisons supermarket and you should see the ground behind that.

Pubs 'n' Grub.

There are a number of pubs that are situated between the train station and the ground that welcome all fans, in fact you could do a pub crawl before you get to the ground, thats how many pubs there are!
The traditional away fans pub is the ‘Compleat Angler’ pub which is by the river, opposite the train station.
Also there’s a new complex called Riverside that has a number of eating outlets inside as well as having a Wetherspoons inside as well.

Moen to Rangers'.

Today QPR have announced the signing of highly rated Petter Vaagan Moen from SK Brann on a free transfer.

Photobucket

The 26 year old's contract at the Norwegian club expires on 31st December so he will officially become an R's players once international clearance is received.
Moen signs on a two and a half year deal.

Moen started his career at Ham-Kam in 2001 and gained a reputation for his great crossing and free kick ability which attracted a number of the big clubs in Norway.
In 2005 SK Brann sealed the signing of Moen for £1 million.
Moen has gone on the represent Norway at U21 and has also received full honours in 2006. He has now got 7 caps for his country, scoring 1 goal.

Moen scored 15 goals in 27 appearances for Brann during the course of the season that has just passed and Moen has attracted a number of clubs but luckily Neil Warnock has been lucky enough to snap up the midfielder, who can play anywhere across the midfield.

Welcome to Loftus Road Petter, we hope you enjoy much success with us!

Vaughan not a done deal??

The Liverpool Echo via Everton is denying reports that James Vaughan is on the verge of joining Cardiff City.

Everton are claiming there as be no contract between the two clubs with regards Vaughan although the BBC Wales have them in talks. Everton boss David Moyes wants a new striker and Vaughan is surplus to requirements and with six months left on is contract. On word from the player about his future and the two managers are staying silent. January could be the only chance for Everton to cash in on the 22-year-old. Cardiff would have to pay some compensation to Everton but nowhere near a million.

It is being reported the Premier League club now are looking for a two million paid day for Vaughan. With a number of clubs interested Everton could be clearing the way for an auction.

Jones steals a march or is it just rumours

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has been quick off the starting line when it comes to the January transfer window according to the latest rumour sweeping the internet. It looks more than likely he got the march on other managers by snapping James Vaughan from Everton. The two clubs have agreed the player is happy to sign a two and a half year contract. So everyone will have to wait until Saturday to see if a done is deal.

Vaughan has been on loan at Crystal Palace and they would have liked to have made his loan deal a permanent deal, but the asking price was too much.

Hull City were thought to be in front runners in Vaughan signature with a rumour they would pay the one million asking price and offer the player £16,000 a week to keep him out of Cardiff hands. In today’s Daily Mirror there had Hull pulling out after it was suggested Everton had put a £2m price-tag on the striker.

Tonight there is nothing official and I don’t expect any until he has signed. City manager Dave Jones will not be happy if the rumour is true they would still be a chance that the whole deal could be gazumped. He will not be a Cardiff player until he signs a contract.

Vaughan the first January signing?

All eyes are now focused on Saturday and the 'Sevenside Derby' with Bristol City with both teams in need of a win. Cardiff City are in the need of a win to keep them at the top end of the table while Bristol are in need of the points to help pull away from the relegated zone.

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones is expecting Jay Bothroyd, Craig Bellamy and Chris Riggott to be available for the clash with Bristol City on New Years Day with the game more than likely a sell-out.

Its only a few days before Dave Jones before he will be getting the clubs cheque out with the transfer window opening and from reports in the market for four or five players, some on free transfer and some could warrant a fee being paid. He was questioned about the rumour surrounding Jonathan Woodgate, only saying,

“I’d like a lot of players and I am sure there will be plenty of clubs wanting Jonathan Woodgate.”
Jones will then start a recruitment drive to strengthen his squad with a centre-back one of his top prioritise. However reports have hit the press that the City boss has started shopping with James Vaughan signing for a million plus. Jay Bothroyd twitted 'Not sure if we have signed James Vaughan hope we have improving the squad is key'. The Everton striker Vaughan spent the first half of the season on loan at Crystal Palace – scoring five goals in 14 appearances. Is name has been link with other clubs and

The rumour-mill has thrown out a few names Glenn Loovens (Celtic) and Danny Shittu (Millwall, Jones would like Loovens on loan for the rest of the season but the Dutchman is reluctant to leave Celtic and has stated his willingness to fight for is place with the SPL club. The defender is sidelined with an injury.

The situation with Danny Shittu different, he is on a short term contract which ends in January and is available to the Cardiff boss if he is a target. Jones told the press,

“I am hoping to take four or five players. If we bring anyone in we are looking at buying one or two to give us an edge and a stronger bench.”
But Shittu will not be an easy deal, Millwall want to sign him to a long deal, and others are queuing up to talk to him. With the rumours about Cardiff reports suggest at Premiership duo Blackpool and Wolves and from the Championship Burnley and Middlesbrough.

Other players in the rumour mix have been winger Wayne Routledge who has had a loan spell at Cardiff a few seasons back. According to reports he turned down a contract offer to sign with the Bluebirds and the same day joined QPR. He is now at Premiership club Newcastle but he sees his opportunities limited this season, but new boss Alan Pardew is confident the winger can have a new lease of life with Newcastle.

Another winger Barnsley Adam Hammill is a player and forward Steven Howard who is becoming a bit of a regular when it comes to Cardiff and transfer rumours.

Dave Jones is the kind of manager who will play his transfer dealings close to his chest which is going to lead to rumour and counter-rumour. There is are only 31 shopping days for a manager in January and the competition will be out there looking in the same shop window.

April opening for new pub near CCS

The new pub near to the Cardiff City Stadium will open April 2011 and has been named ‘The Sand Martin’ much to the outrage of most Cardiff City fans.

The Cardiff City Trust has fired off a letter to the owners of the pub Marston’s Inns & Taverns to reconsider the name of the pub. The Trust and fans are hoping for a more. The pub which is presently under construction is on the corner of Leckwith Road and Ffordd Fred Keenor the main road into the stadium area. The resting place for the new Fred Keenor statue will be at the end of Ffordd Fred Keenor road and the pub bearing his name would be welcomed by fans.

There is little chance of a name change according to a spokesman from Marston's PR company Vital the name had been created by a committee and that it was unlikely the pub would change its name now before it opens in April of next year.

It will be interesting to see how this new pub treats football fans. It is believe that on match day fans will have to buy a meal before you are served a pint has they go for a more family atmosphere.

By the grace of Portmouth, City still second

Can you believe it in the Crazy world of the Championship after losing 4-1 Cardiff City stay second after Leeds shot themselves in both feet at home to Portsmouth.

The day start with top of the table QPR cantering to a win over Coventry in an early kick-off giving them a seven point’s lead over second place Cardiff.

Leeds was 3-1 after 62minutes then an own goal just a minute later put the score put Portsmouth back in the game.. Leeds looked to have done enough jump above Cardiff in second, however the game was not over. The same player score another own goal late into injury time, (90+3minutes) according to the BBC. The game ended all square at 3-3, and is on 40 points the same Cardiff.

Swansea (40 points) and Norwich (39 points) both won and are third and fourth respectively although Cardiff have a game in hand of them.

What it means at the end of the day is with QPR galloping off there are four teams fighting it out for the second automatic promotion spot. No-one wants the booby prize of a play-off spot especially after what happen to Cardiff last season.

Has expected no Craig Bellamy today has he is rested by Cardiff City boss Dave Jones. Chris Riggott is missing from the team that beat Coventry on Boxing Day.

Blake is off the bench to replace Riggott and Chris Burke has recovered from illness to take the place of Bellamy. Paul Quinn is on the bench for Blake.

Rangers Walk it...

Coventry 0-2 QPR

Rangers got back on the road after the magnificent 4-0 victory against Swansea on Boxing Day as they travelled to Coventry City. Could the R's end their TV nightmare with a second win over the festive period? We were about to find out.

It was me that took the wheel on this occasion early on today and picked up PK, Jenson and Lofty before making the jorney up the M1 and M6. We arrived in good time to taste what has to be some of the worst pies on offer in any ground.

Neil Warnock named an unchanged side as we looked to finally win on TV again...

In an unspectacular first half it was Rangers' that enjoyed the most of the creative possession yet it was Coventry that had the best chances, only to be denied by two fantastic saves by Paddy Kenny.

It was the R's that had the opening chance as Taarabt flashed an effort past the post in the opening minutes. When Coventry were in possession the ball spent most of the time in orbit collecting a fresh batch of snow. Marlon King was at the heart of a lot of stick from the R's travelling support with some cracking songs being sung about him, referring to his past midemeanours. Those who were there will know what we are talking about...

It was Coventry then that had two efforts superbly saved by Paddy Kenny and then Alejandro Faurlin cleared a header off the line as Coventry were causing problems with corners and crosses into the box. Jamie Mackie had the final effort of the half as he found space in the box and his half volley flew just wide of the post.

Half time saw the gang relax on the concourse as Matt joined us in the stand for a quick chat before the second half started and we braced ourselves for what would hopefully be a better half.

Rangers started the half with a fresh and more attacking approach and it was this that led to Rangers' taking the lead. Kyle Walker attacked down the right hand side and passed two defenders before having space to run on towards goal and was given space to smash a shot in at the near post and it hit Westwood's face before rustling the back of the net.

This gave the R's the impetus to drive forward and limited Coventry to hopeful balls that were easily dealt with by the R's back four. Soon it was 2-0. The more team friendly, Adel Taarabt was the creator with a superb cross to Tommy Smith and he flicked the ball into the far corner to give the R's a deserved 2-0 lead. The R's continued to press and just couldn't extend their lead and ended the half as they started, on top.

Another solid performance by Rangers saw us continue to do the basics correctly and create chances a plenty. Things are certainly getting back on track!

QPR: Kenny, Hill, Derry, Taarabt (Rowlands 84), Helguson (Orr 89), Faurlin, Mackie, Gorkss, Walker, Connolly, Smith (Clarke 80). Subs: Cerny, Agyemang, Hulse, Tofas.

Man of the Match - was an easy one for us today as Kyle Walker showed his Premiership credentials and hopefully we will push to make him a permanent signing.

So, with the last game in 2010 ending on a high note, all of us at Lofty Heights would like to wish each and every one of you a VERY Happy New Year!! The R's are starting the New Year, Top of the League and 7 points clear! Not a bad way to kick off 2011...

Come on You R'sssss!!!

Watford today - Three points need

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones was forced to make changes to the squad for the Boxing Day victory over Coventry. According to the official website on the day Jay Bothroyd had not recovered from is injury while midfielders Chris Burke and Danny Drinkwater missed the game due to illness, will the three be available for selection?

With the Watford game later today boss James will have to marshal his troops to see what squad he will have to choose from.

The most doubtful is debutant Chris Riggott who left the field early against Coventry with cramp in both calves he will surely have a fitness test before a decision is made. Speaking in the South Wales Echo Riggott said:
“I will see how I am, but of course I’d want to play.
“I will listen to the physios because it’s been a hard, frustrating road back.”
Craig Bellamy put in a ‘Man of the Match’ performance against Coventry but with the next four games spaced over 12 days, reports in the press today suggest he will miss today’s game to rest his knees.

With a Sevenside derby on Saturday and a top of a table clash with Leeds Untied Tuesday week nursing Bellamy is a must, three games in seven days is a tough schedule.

Sound debut for Riggott

Has Cardiff City boss Dave Jones unearth a gem in defender Chris Riggott, he as been a long time coming with injury and lack of fitness. One game don’t make a hero, in the fickle world of the football terraces a player can go from hero to zero in a matter of minutes.

Riggott made a sterling debut and received praise from all areas the management, fans and the media and came close to scoring. He when off after 68minutes suffering with cramp in both calves. It was his first start since April when he turn-out for is old club Middlesbrough. He could have stay with the North East club but choose to join Dave Jones and Cardiff City.

Talking to the South Wales Echo he said:
“I loved it. It was fantastic to be back playing again.
“It’s taken me time to reach the fitness needed, mainly because I’ve suffered a few niggles,” said Riggott.
“I had a calf strain at the end of last season and didn’t go through a full rehab and get the training I needed.
“There was a lot of scar tissue and it’s been incredibly frustrating.
“Now I’m back playing and I want more. This win against Coventry was massive.
“Their keeper Keiren Westwood made some unbelievable saves, but we saw the game through for the three points.”

City second, back winning roll on Watford

Cardiff City are back to winning away with their first win on Boxing Day in 11 years and there first league since Scunthorpe. Today was there first home win since the end of October the Norwich game.

The win sees Cardiff move back into second place after Leeds United collapsed from a 2-0 lead to a 2-2 draw at Leicester. That the top of the table QPR had a early kick-off at home with fourth place Swansea and annihilated them 4-0, all top four are back in action on Tuesday depending on the weather
Coventry v QPR, kick-off 12:15pm
Leeds v Portsmouth, kick-off 3pm
Swansea v Barnsley, kick-off 3pm
Watford v Cardiff, kick-off 3pm
The Cardiff game at Watford looks the be safe with Watford boss Malky Mackay saying only some kind of “freak weather” could prevent the game going ahead.
“Our pitch is absolutely fine as we have the undersoil heating whereas Portman Road have gone for the balloon with the hot air inside it.
“Our undersoil heating is on and our pitch is fine. So unless we have freak weather between now and Tuesday then the game will be absolutely safe.”

QPR Deliver Three Points for Christmas...

QPR 4-0 Swansea

After two straight defeats, QPR delivered their fans the perfect Christmas Present, with a 4-0 Boxing Day win over fellow high flyers, Swansea at Loftus Road.

All of us Lofty Heights hope you all had a great Christmas!!

Due to the lunchtime kick off time, the gang arrived earlier than normal to the Springbok, some inside keeping warm and some outside braving the elements. Unfortunately, we were without Jenson due to illness, get well soon mate and California Hoop as one of the twins was taken ill - we did actually think at one point, due to his past record, that he actually thought it was a 3pm kick off and was sitting at home with his feet up before setting off...

We got into the ground just in time to see the R's take the field in what was, on paper, a tough looking fixture. But in fairness, despite the scoreline, it wasn't all one way traffic and the visitors went close with efforts from Sinclair and Beattie. But on 16 minutes, the R's went in front - Taarabt skipped past two Swans defenders to cue up the unmarked Jamie Mackie who fired a low 20-yard shot just inside Swans keeper De Vries' right-hand post and brought his barren spell to an end with his 9th of the season.

Three minutes later found both sides down to ten men - Kyle Walker pushed on from full back, beating 4 players before being brought down by tate on his way to goal. Handbags soon followed and Tate and Clint Hill, were both shown their marching orders, a decision of which Neil Warnock has stated he will appeal against. From where we were sitting, it was unclear as to what exactly happened and will have another look at the Football League show later - no doubt a certain Mr Claridge will completely justify the sending off of the Rangers man.

Rangers had two good chances to extend their lead through Taarabt and Helguson before the break, but the R's went in at the break one goal to the good.

The second half started slowly but as time ticked on, Adel Taarabt started to run the show and fed Kyle Walker with a superb pass. Walker cut inside but sadly, his shot was blocked, it would have been a sublime goal. The second goal though, wasn't long in coming - Taarabt once again, skipped into the area but was brought down by Williams and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot - Heidar Helguson stepped up and cooly sent the keeper the wrong way - 2-0!!

It was game set and match on 70 minutes, when Adel Taarabt got the goal he deserved when he collected Helguson's knock-down to shoot home from the left-hand side, underneath the body of De Vries. The goalkeeper perhaps should have done better, but as mentioned, it was a thoroughly deserved goal from the R's midfielder.

There was nothing De Vries could do ten minutes later - Taarabt nutmegged Allen before then smashing home from 25 yard curler into De Vries' right-hand corner - even though the keeper got a touch. Minutes later, he was denied a hat trick by a superb save - Helguson struck a powerful drive which was pushed away to the keepers right, Taarabt arrived with the follow up but De Vries made a superb recovery to block his close range effort. Martin Rowlands and Rob Hulse combined well late on as the R's went in search of their 5th goal, but it was not to be and the final whistle soon went to send the holiday crowd home extremely happy!!

QPR:
Kenny, Hill, Derry, Taarabt (Rowlands 84), Helguson (Hulse 86), Faurlin, Mackie, Gorkss, Walker, Connolly, Smith (Orr 20). Subs: Cerny, Clarke, Agyemang, Ephraim.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Kyle Walker had a another fine game for the R's and was given the nod by Lee and Sam. Corporate opted for Shaun Derry who was dominant in the R's midfield once again. But the winner by a small majority vote, given by myself, Jo and Pk, is Adel Taarabt.

The Lofty Heights gang will be back on the road on Tuesday for the live TV clash against Coventry at the Ricoh Arena!!

COME ON YOU R'sssssssss!!!

More paper rumours

In the Sunday People there a few more rumours surrounding Cardiff City.

In the ‘Hotline Special’ section of the football pages the suggestion is that Cardiff City boss Dave Jones would be willing to let Mark Hudson and Gabor Gyepes go. It is a well known fact the Jones is in the market for new defensives blood and the right players could see the two mention player sold.

The rumours have it that Cardiff want to sign Danny Shittu who is out of contract with his present club, Millwall in January. Today another Sunday paper has Spurs defender Jonathan Woodgate link with Cardiff.

More rumour has Everton striker James Vaughan linked with the Bluebirds with Championship rivals Hull about to offer a £16,000 a-week contract. Hull the offer will put off Cardiff with Everton looking for a fee of £1million with add-ons.

Substitutes - Heaton, Gyepes, Rae, Koumas, Blake, Matthews, Wildig

After having the Burnley game called off its game on today against Coventry in icy Cardiff.

Since the Middlesbrough defeat Cardiff City make a number of changes has he looks to get back into win ways. Riggott makes his debut with Gyepes loosing out and makes the bench. There is no Bothroyd who must still be injured. Chopra is back in the starting line-up playing along side Keogh.

Burke and Drinkwater both featured against Middlesbrough or not in the starting line up both believe to have failed a late fitness tests.

Milena Velba With Nadine Jansen

The West Ham team is a blurred, blurred its image and complex environment. Part-time play well, now weighs more than its story, which is a problem, and is under the technical direction of a perennial question. Tucked away in the last position, the speculation about his tenure there is increasing. Doubts about its reliability are part of this, as well as the questions presented by his staff: remarkable quality, suspended in performance.

Carlton Cole celebrates his goal at Craven Cottage

A win at Craven Cottage allows the Hammers back to three points (for fourth so far this season) and, above all, dealing a hammer blow to their morale weakened base of defeats. Just a foothold to imagine salvation, to cling to the last inch of rope hooked to the Premier League. While all the London teams boast enviable health-saving Fulham fatigued after his magical year and in danger of relegation, "the district of West Ham fears for his future.

Four will be the support of West Ham to delude itself with permanence. The first is in the goal in the deserved that trust must be given to Robert Green who, despite starting the season irregularly, once again demonstrates its best version. The second, in its central most promising and, being generous and optimistic, more present: James Tomkins. The young Englishman is finally done with the ownership and bright three games has curdled. In the first, against Manchester City, dried Balotelli (sorry the move Toure's goal), while the second was Highlights against Blackburn despite the draw, in the third, at Craven Cottage, showing all his qualities. To wit: striking out the ball, good passing game and future, a future. Its major defect, speed.

The third point of support is Scott Parker, the coveted captain hammer. Would be insufficient praise but are necessary when participating in a game worth the viewing of it. Without going any further, against Fulham was instrumental in assisting that unbalanced score. In the fourth point of support should be found Carlton Cole, but sometimes pretend that he doubts. His two goals at Craven Cottage justify their ownership, their game of danger and back generates air power is proven. Four support to stay in the Premier League, four supports to keep hammering.

Spurs defender linked with the Bluebirds

Cardiff City is being linked with ex-England and Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate according to the Sunday Star. The latest rumour is suggesting the Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is interested in finding a club for his defender to help with his return for a long-term injury.

Redknapp is hoping to find a club to help Woodgate to the next level on the road to prove he is fit enough for top-flight football and Cardiff could fit the bill.  Redknapp talking about Woodgate he said,
“Hopefully, in a couple of weeks, Jonathan will be able to play.
“If he had been out for the rest of the season, I don't know if he would have come back from that. At least he is back training, feels good and looks in good shape.
“This is make-or-break really for him, this period. He needs to get out there and show he is ready to get his career going again.”
The Spurs defender has only make three appearances since May last year and is regard to be injury prone with football circles. Even so if the Cardiff City boss Dave Jones was interested he will still find a host of club waiting in the wings to nab him on a loan deal. Papers are taking on interest from Wolves and West Ham ready in the queue.

R's on the Road To........... Coventry City.

On Tuesday the R's travel to Coventry in the second festive fixture of the Christmas period looking to build/recover from the Boxing Day win/loss/draw with Swansea.
Here are a few hints and tips to hep you along the way.

The Stadium.Current Capacity – 32,500.

Coventry City were formed in 1883 but were originally known as Singers. In 1898 the club changed its name to Coventry City and just one year later they moved to a new home, Highfield Road, after short stints at Dowells Field and Stoke Road.
Highfield Road was the clubs home for 106 years before they moved to the £113 million pound Ricoh Arena complex in August 2005. The clubs first game at the Ricoh Arena was against the R’s and run out comfortable 3-0 winners.
The Ricoh Arena is another one of those bowl style stadiums with three high single tier stands and one very unique looking stand with corporate boxes which backs onto the other stadium facilities that include a casino. The atmosphere is often disappointing and can be hard to drum up any real noise.
The away fans are housed in the Jewson South Stand (opposite Tesco) and 3,000 fans can be seated here. When climbing to the top of the stand, if you desire to, do be careful as the stairs are quite steep.

The History between the teams.

Coventry 27
QPR 10
Draw 15

In the five fixtures since the Ricoh Arena was opened in 2005 the record stands at Coventry 3, QPR 1 with 1 draw.
The solitary win for the R’s came in April 2007 when Jimmy Smith scored the winning goal in the second half.

How to get there.
By Car:- The postcode for the ground is CV6 6GE.
Get onto the M6 and leave at Junction 3. Turn left and then left again and you will reach a place for parking in a field. Over 200 spaces are available in here at £5 per car. Another place to park is opposite the field and is next to the Novotel hotel complex, this also costs £5.
From here a 10 minute walk awaits you. Head towards the Novotel and follow the road around into a housing estate and keep walking straight. You will walk through an old looking industrial estate before reaching the top of the hill and seeing the Ricoh Arena in front of you.

By Train:- The train station is over three miles away from the ground and is therefore too far to walk. There is a shuttle bus that runs from the bus station to the Ricoh Arena/Tesco complex every 10 minutes. An adult return ticket will cost around the £3 mark.

Pubs 'n' Grub.
I would recommend The Black Horse Pub for the visit to Coventry. If you park in either of the car parks I have mentioned then it is easy to find. Head in the opposite direction to the Ricoh Arena and walk underneath the M6 and up a hill on the Longford Hill and after 5 minutes you will see the pub on your right hand side.
Beer is served inside the ground for around the £3.20 mark.
With the complex being a complex there aren’t any eating outlets around the ground so burger vans and refreshments inside the stadium will need to be relied upon.

Shittu on Jones' menu?

Rumour, rumour and more rumour the Daily Mirror is linking Cardiff City with Nigeria born international centre-half Danny Shittu as a January target.

He was released by Bolton at the end of last season after two season with  spent is time twigging his thumbs for two seasons playing a handful of games. Although there were a few clubs rumoured to be interest it pitted out. He then joined Championship rivals Millwall on a short term 3 months contract with is due two run-out in January.

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones is looking to strengthen the defence who has criticized a number of times this season. Chris Riggott could be in line for his Cardiff City debut finally after his long haul to match fitness.

Dave Jones as put the bed the rumour surrounding striker Michael Chopra and Blackburn as nonsense

Trailer For Natalie Portman And James Franco's New Movie, 'Your Highness'

Both nominated for Golden Globes for drama films this year, James Franco and Natalie Portman are trying their hands at comedy -- and are doing it medieval style.
Franco and Portman co-star, along with Zooey Deschanel and Eastbound & Down's Danny McBride in 'Your Highness,' an upcoming medieval adventure comedy that McBride co-wrote. And it looks hilarious.
The film features McBride as a lazy prince, who is forced to adventure with his brother (Franco) in order to save the brother's love (Deschanel) from an evil warlock. Along the way, they meet a beautiful warrior (Portman) that helps them in their quest.
And don't worry, there's some steamy action. The film comes out this spring; check out the trailer below.

New 'Jersey Shore' Girl Gets Naked In New Trailer

The new extended trailer for Jersey Shore season 3 has arrived, giving us a better sense of the complex plotlines we’ll see play out when the gang returns to Seaside Heights. New cast member Deena is “exactly like Snooki,” according to Sammi, and haven’t we all been feeling like the show could use another Snooki? (Deena’s first line in the trailer: “It took a day for someone to see my goods!” We really have to do something about our education system.) Also, J-Woww is going through a painful break-up, which is sad, but Snooki gets arrested, which is even sadder. (“I’m a good person!” she screams.) At one point, Sammi appears to leave the house … for good? And, finally,, Ronnie gets a proctology exam. Or anyways, it looks like a proctology exam. And if it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck, it’s a proctology exam. “Hell has to be just like this,” says Vinny, a clear reference to Jean-Paul Sartre’s No Exit. Watch it all below…
PopWatchers, I find myself almost unbearably excited about this new season. Are you looking forward to the Angelina-free shenanigans? Hoping that Deena and Snooki will re-enact the Marx Brothers’ Mirror Gag? Praying that J-Woww won’t rebound from her ex right into the waiting arms of any man she lives with?

Jennifer Lopez In Sexy L'Oreal Commercial Outtakes

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at Jennifer Lopez tossing her hair and baring her bod for L'Oreal Paris EverSleek. The ads start airing on television early next year.
J.Lo's two-year-old twins are already in the business as well - here they are modeling for Gucci.

JWoww Dons School Girl Outfit, Reveals Diet

She's really putting the Woww in JWoww in this photo shoot with Us Weekly.
'Jersey Shore' star Jennifer 'JWoww' Farley has always been known for her busty, curvy bod, but she's really kicked herself into high gear -- and, conveniently, is being paid to do so. She's promoting a product called Ab Cuts, which she says has helped her get into shape. Along with exercise, of course.
Farley works out five times a week with her trainer boyfriend, and does her best to diet. "I'll still eat junk food, cheesecake, cheese, pizza, but just lower amounts of it," she told the magazine.
Oh, and she takes her supplement for "overall health and for feeling good about yourself." So, you know, it sounds like a must-buy.

Air-Powered Car, AirPod: The Future Of Urban Transportation?

There are cars that run on gas, electricity, vegetable oil, even human waste, and now there is a car that runs on air.
The AirPod has been created in the UK and runs on compressed air. This CNN video demonstrates how the three-wheeled, two door, steering wheel-free vehicle zips around. (It is also oddly reminiscent of a car from "The Jetsons," but that was probably not planned.)
Compared to a standard car, the AirPod emits a fraction of the pollution, can reach up to 50 mph, and will cost around $10,000. Motor Development International hopes that the AirPod will be the future of urban transportation.

I hope the Boxing Day game beats the weather

Is there any doubt the Boxing Day fixture could be called off?

The shopping next to the stadium and open, bloody hell the Blues played on the pitch Sunday after the surrounding areas were cleared.

Why couldn’t they do the same for City’s game the previous day?

Cardiff will be home to Coventry City on Boxing Day and after beating them 2-1 early will be looking to do their first double of the season. However just getting back into winning ways would be good.

History is against the City boss David Jones and his team the Boxing Day fixture has been a graveyard for club and fans. The last time Cardiff won this fixture was in 1999 see below
2009 – Plymouth (h) 0-1 (L)
2008 – Reading (a) 1-1 (D)
2007 – Watford (a) 2-2 (D)
2006 – Plymouth (a) 2-2 (D)
2005 – Plymouth (h) 0-2 (L)
2004 – Wolves (h) 1-1 (D)
2003 – Walsall (h) 0-1 (L)
2002 – Luton (a) 2-0 (L)
2001 – Reading (h) 2-2 (D)
2000 – Plymouth (a) 1-2 (L)
1999 – Reading (h) 1-0 (W)
An interesting piece of information for any stats geek, the last time the two met on Boxing Day was 1950. Cardiff travelled to Coventry and suffered 2-1 defeat; however the day before Christmas Day Coventry was at Ninian Park and lost by the same score.

It was the second Christmas Day, Boxing Day double header, back in 1933 it was Cardiff playing Coventry on the 25th and home on Boxing Day. City lost 4-1 at Coventry and draw 3-3 the following day.

80s Costumes Aerobics

If Cahill, Howard and Moyes, Everton

was not the best context to face Manchester City. Mancini those seven games without losing accumulated while Everton had the same series in reverse. Nor were logical forecasts match David Moyes because he dared to align Anichebe ahead of other strikers like Yakubu and Saha even Beckford. Once again, the Manchester City team showed its image inoperative meaningless and collective game. No Yaya Toure appeared, nothing was heard of Milner and Silva took little away. Barry, meanwhile, begins to be flatter than dangerous, more positional and less organized. His passes do not provide, just channel the direction. Join the direction of the ball without changing the intensity, without changing the meaning, without doing harm.

Confidence Anichebe was in question, not the Tim Cahill, who again appeared to score on its head. Nine of the twenty goals of the Australian team were a must for a 'toffee' that move according to their effectiveness. Leighton Baines, who caught on a more than acceptable match another team move culminated to make the second. Tim Howard was also important, something usually irregular, but it gives you more points than takes away. And this time hit add. With the two-goal deficit on the scoreboard, was destabilizing and defining point of the match. Contribution came from the coach, the technician who reads, understands and acts accordingly.

With Adam Johnson threatening the left wing of Everton, David Moyes went into action, despite the expulsion of Anichebe. She put Bilyaletdinov and Saha, fresh legs and motivated for the cause. He devised a plan to plug gaps to eliminate Zabaleta constant increases and stop the offensive of the City on the left side of the visitors, who had to move with constant and inaccurate attacks in the middle, and distant shots. Mancini, slow and passive, did not have a player to change the discourse of the party, to damage and defense through 'toffee'. In addition, Tim Howard showed his good side and sweetened the goals of his companion, also Tim Cahill. Deservedly beat Everton, Tim flashed and commanded David Moyes. Won the group.

Mila Kunis: 'Miley Was Smoking Some Weed'

Mila Kunis thinks Miley Cyrus's excuse is just blowing smoke.
The 'Black Swan' actress appeared on 'Lopez Tonight' on Friday night, and among other things, discussed the recent video of teen star Miley Cyrus smoking what she claimed was the legal drug salvia from a bong. Kunis wasn't buying it.
"She was smoking some weed! Come on, now; that was not no legal [substance]!" she told Lopez, animated and laughing.
Kunis also talked about hearing about her Golden Globe nomination -- and receiving an early, alarming call -- and a wild public transportation experience that led to a nice ride home from on-screen beau Ashton Kutcher.
Additionally, take note of Lopez continuing to call Kunis a Latina -- in fact, she hails from the Ukraine.

Lady Gaga Bites Head Off Santa Claus Doll In Toronto Concert

Gaga humbug! This pop star has no warm spot in her heart for the holiday season.

At a concert at London's O2 arena Friday night, a Lady Gaga fan threw a Santa Claus doll up onto the stage while the star was performing. Instead of taking it and maybe making a wish for Christmas, Lady Gaga ripped a page out of Ozzie Osbourne's book -- and bit right into its neck.

"I do like Christmas, but for those of you feeling lonely this Christmas, just to keep everyone happy," she said, before biting into its merry neck.

"I hate the holidays. I'm alone and miserable you f**king stuffed little toy," the Grammy-winning singer yelled out as she finished the beheading with the heel of her shoe. No doubt she can expect coal in her stocking this year.

Perhaps something has changed for Lady Gaga in the past year -- in 2009, she released an exclusive Christmas single called 'Christmas Tree,.'

Smashbox Make Foundation

Sunderland qualify for Europe wants

have spoken of several revelations in the Premier League so far this season. We're almost half championship and could say that the podium is occupied surprise teams Bolton, West Brom and Blackpool, Newcastle, giving the newly promoted team category high from the outset. If Owen Coyle is the most prominent coach, no less important are the names of Ian Holloway and Roberto Di Matteo. Despite not having secured his stay (I still think that both WBA and Blackpool will suffer nothing to string a run of bad luck) can now look to their rivals from the middle of the table with the peace that brings.

Welbeck celebrates his goal against Bolton
Less has been said of Sunderland. Only three defeats in history to think they can reach the European places. Why highlight the Sunderland? His last victory was over Bolton, precisely, which have exceeded placing sixth in the standings. And is not the first time they get a highlighted result. The 'black cats' do not know the loss to any of the top five (in the absence of playing against Manchester United) and have won eight of twelve points, in addition to remembering that magnificent victory at Stamford Bridge.

Much of this upward momentum of Sunderland has signed Danny Welbeck , with five goals in their last six games. But it would be unfair to cite a name and forget his strike partner Darren Bent and Asamoah Gyan. May form one of the most feared trios of all Premier League. Lee Cattermole gets aggressive in the middle while the direction is up to Jordan Henderson. To make matters worse, and adding a new reason to think of them for European places, under Craig Gordon sticks is certainly among the top five goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Craig Gordon, Sunderland goalkeeper
Little by little they are doing their niche, they are brewing between the big and even allow the license to beat them. Today I read this comment on Danny Welbeck: "He is slowly making a name for himself". In addition, all the sports sites in England illustrated with her photo chronicle of the majority party and include your name in the headline. Steve Bruce should be happy, progress is obvious, and not just individual. Now have to know what limits they want to.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.....

Leeds 2-0 QPR

After last weeks shocking defeat live on tv against Watford, Rangers' had the chance to bounce back but faced a very difficult trip to the Championship's in form team, Leeds United. The Lofty Heights crew were in attendance despite the difficult conditions.

The morning saw an early start as the group decided to leave slightly earlier than originally planned just to allow us plenty of allowance with our journey up to Yorkshire. Sam and myself arrived at Jenson's at 9 and jumped in his car and set off to pick up PK before getting Lofty. The journey started in slight snowy conditions but as we went north the snow covered areas become lesser as the roads were clear, giving us a clear run to Elland Road after a quick stop off for food.

Neil Warnock made a few changes to the team that lost last Friday. Bradley Orr and Rob Hulse came in for Heidar Helguson and the injured Alejandro Faurlin.

Rangers' started off the first half fairly strongly and when Adel Taarabt slipped a shot just past the post even though he had options either side of him which may of led to an easier chance created.
Leeds were content to sit and hold back before hitting the R's and it seemed as if they were targetting Clint Hill down the R's left and Robert Snodgrass made his life incredibly difficult.
It was no surprise when the Leeds goal came that it was created by Snodgrass, he jigged by two R's defenders before seeing his deflected cross float to the back post and Becchio nodded back to Max Gradel who smashed home from close range and gave Paddy Kenny no chance.
Leeds continued to push but Rangers were by no means being outclassed during the first half but failed to create any clear cut chances.

Half time came and there was still optimism within the group as we felt that a draw would be more than achievable and would definitely be a grear result.

The half time interval saw a Rangers' substitution with Fitz Hall coming on for Clint Hill. Hall took his place at centre back meaning Matt Connolly moved to midfield alongside Shaun Derry and Kyle Walker went to left back.
Rangers started the game steadily but again no clear cut chances were being created.
Just as it seemed the R's were taking a foothold on the game Leeds hit Rangers' on the break down the R's right hand side and Fitz Hall insisted on backing off Max Gradel from just inside the half until he entered the 18yard box and allowed the winger to get a shot in which sneaked inside Paddy Kenny's near post. For me it seemed as if Kenny could've done slightly better with the shot but why the hell Hall backed off for so long is beyond me.
Rangers' never recovered from that killer blow and if it wasn't for two fantastic Paddy Kenny saves then the defeat could've been even heavier.
It looked as if Hall picked up another injury with 10minutes of the game left but due to all three subs being used he remained on the pitch hobbling along, so another spell on the sidelines looks immenant.

Take nothing away from Leeds they deserved their victory today and once again we just were not on our game.

Today's Man of the Match is a very difficult one to choose but nominations for Rob Hulse and Paddy Kenny, but Shaun Derry got the unaminous decision with two votes.

Our incredibly difficult journey home was worsened when we were informed that our region down south was covered by over six inches of snow and the countries motorways were gridlocked, making our travel time home unthinkable.
I finish this report in a services just before Northampton and a gridlocked motorway in front of us all, its going to be a long night for us all!!

Hugh Jackman’s Stunt on Oprah Winfrey Show Goes Wrong

Twelve thousand Oprah fans descended upon the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday to be a part of four shows that wrap up the 25th and final season of the “Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Approximately two hundred staff from Harpo Productions and 200 local staff were employed to organize the trip from beginning to end – including the stage that was erected especially for the shows.

[Oprah Winfrey, Talk Show Queen]:
“After being here for a week, this I know for sure, I love Australia!”

Among the visiting celebrities, Academy Award winner Russell Crowe, the family of late conservationist Steve Irwin, rocker Bon Jovi and actor Hugh Jackman all took to the stage. But it was Jackman’s entrance on a flying fox that caught the crowd by surprise – after it ended with a crash, bang and several stitches.

Oprah jumped to Jackman’s assistance to ask if he was OK. The Australian star took it in his stride and reassured everyone that he was fine. Cheers and applause later erupted from the audience making the accident all part of the magic.

Oprah, who was Down Under with 300 of her American audience members, visited some of the country’s top tourist spots.

Jeff Bridges 'SNL' Promos With Fred Armisen (VIDEO)

This weekend's "Saturday Night Live" is the last one of the year, and if these promos are any indication, it looks like it's going to be a good one with host Jeff Bridges and musical guests Eminem and Lil Wayne. In this oh-so-silly set of promos with Fred Armisen, Bridges gives us a taste of what kind of comedy he'll be doing on Saturday. Hopefully the "Tron" jokes and Coen brothers hand puppets (yes, you read that correctly) will also make an appearance.

R's on the Road To.......... Leeds United.

This Saturday Rangers' take to the road looking to bounce back for the embaressing defeat live on the BBC last week and look to get back to winning ways against in form Leeds United.
here are a few hints and tips if you plan to make the journey to Elland Road.

Club History.

Photobucket

Leeds were founded in 1919 after Leeds City FC disbanded. Leeds took their place in the Midland League in 1919 before being invited into the Football League in 1920.
In March 1961 the club appointed its greatest ever manager Don Revie and in his first months as manager he saved the club from relegation before guiding the club to promotion into the top flight in the 1963/64 season. From that moment until Revie left the club to manage England, Leeds never finished outside the top four and won two Division One titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his tenure.
After Revie’s departure the club suffered disappointment as every manager underachieved, with the exception of a good season under Jimmy Armfield when the club reached the European Cup final but lost out to Bayern Munich. The most famous management bust up was when Brian Clough, who was Revie’s successor, lasted 44days before being shown the door. The movie ‘The Damned United’ was based around this chapter.
It wasn’t until Howard Wilkinson took to the helm in 1988 that Leeds began to be a force in the English Leagues. Wilkinson first guided the club back into the First Division in his first full season in charge in 1989/90. Following a fourth place finish in their first season back in the top flight, Wilkinson then led the club to the First Division title in the 1991/92.
Following that success Wilkinson was unable to follow up that moment of glory and the club and he parted way in 1996.
Following eras of management under George Graham and then David O’Leary, who helped guide the club back into the Champions League, it was the board room that was the focus of the media. Having taken out large loans to secure Champions League status the club began to feel the pinch and Chairman Peter Risdale was forced to sell the club to a consortium led by Gerald Krasner who was himself an insolvency specialist and tried to ease the crippling debt that Leeds were suffering from. Relegation to the Championship only made matters worse for the club.
Ken Bates bought the club in 2004 for £10 million but this was only after the club sold the ground and leased it back for over a 25 year agreement and the clubs training ground was also sold for £4.2 million.
Leeds suffered more disappointment when they missed out on promotion back to the top flight in the 2005/06 season but in 2006/07 Leeds suffered relegation to League One, much to the supporters disbelief.
Simon Grayson finally got the club promoted back to the Championship last season.

The Stadium.

Current capacity – 40,204

Photobucket

The ground is completely overwhelmed by the newest built stand, the East Stand, which holds over 17,000. The stand was built and opened in time for the 199/93 season. The remaining stands look pretty tired in comparison and are half the size of the East Stand.
Away supporters are housed in the South Stand corner, which doesn’t possess much leg room for the supporter and has very basic facilities inside.
Be aware that its quite frequent that fans are ejected from the ground for swearing without warning. Stewarding can be really harsh so be careful and alert to the power hungry tools in illuminous jackets.

The History between the teams.

At Leeds (22)

Leeds 10
QPR 6
Draw 6

Rangers’ have been unsuccessful in their last three visits to Elland Road and the last time the R’s were successful there was in the R’s final season in the top flight when they won 3-1 in 1995. Two goals from Danny Dichio and a Trevor Sinclair goal were enough to claim all three points on the day.
Before that the R’s last victory came in 1990 when the R’s came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and former star player Roy Wegerle scored only of the best goals by a player in Hoops when he mesmerised the Leeds defence when he took on half the team before slotting home from 12 yards. That goal is shown in the R’s greatest goals collection and will remain there for many years to come.

How to get there.

By Car: - The postcode for Elland Road is LS11 0ES..
To get to Elland road use the M1 and follow it all the way until you join the M621.
Leave the M621 at junction 2 and follow the A643 until you reach Elland Road.
For parking, just as you go under a railway bridge there are entrances on either side of the road to some very large car parks and at the cost of £5 , how can you turn them down.

By Train: - The train station is about a 35 minute walk from the ground so the two best ways to get to the ground is via taxi or by shuttle bus. The shuttle bus can be caught just outside the train station and this runs past the North Stand of Elland Road so it’s an ideal form of transport and at a cost of £2.50 it’s a snip and probably cheaper than a taxi if there’s a small group of you.

Pubs 'n' Grub.

The one pub that has been mentioned is the Drysalters pub which is a 10minute walk from the ground. To find this pub; with the Old Peacock pub behind you, turn left and follow the road down to the very end. Pass the entrances to a number of car parks and go under a railway bridge. At the end of the road, turn left along the dual carriageway and the pub is a short way down 'tucked in' on the left. Otherwise alcohol is served within the ground.
