Everton not for Bothroyd

EVERTON manager David Moyes is not interested in ex-Cardiff City striker who has been linked with the Club in the press. The Daily Mirror even had the player as agreeing terms with the Premiership Club, but its turn out to be a non-rumour.

However, another day and another rumour this time involving the player and SPL team Celtic, which is becoming a port of call for out of contract Cardiff players. Press reports have him in Glasgow today having a medical, being taken a tour around Celtic Park and being shown the clubs training facilities at Lennoxtown. If he was to make that journey and sign he would have some company with Cardiff defender Adam Matthews who also taken the Scottish pound.

I would be disappointed if Bothroyd were to sign for Celtic after saying he wanted to play a higher level of football in the Premier League. It would have been better to have signed a new contract with Cardiff than go North of the border, but he will be on better money with them. Ex-Cardiff City player Joe Ledley who moved to Celtic at the end of the 2009/10 season when he was out of contract has been bestowing the virtues of Celtic.

Bothroyd said recently,

"Everyone wants to play in the Premiership, that's the best league, it's the highest level, you want to play against the best players in the world week in, week out,"

Bothroyd and Whittingham rumour

Sunday rumours involving Cardiff City have the rumour mill turning a bit faster. In the News of the world they have Jay Bothroyd on the verge of signing for Everton while in the Sunday Mirror he has agreed terms. It would be a good move for the striker if the story is true better than Celtic who ex-City star Joe Ledley has been plugging in the press.

Everton boss David Moyes is reported to be his offer in first with Sunderland, Fulham and Celtic in the wings also interested if paper reports are to believe. With a small transfer budget the Everton can snap up the 28-year-old striker on a free transfer after he failed to agree a new contract with Cardiff.

While Bothroyd who is an ex-Cardiff player is constantly in the rumour mill today there is a report that newly promoted Norwich are interested in Cardiff's midfielder Peter Whittingham. The Sunday People are suggesting they are set to make a £1 million bid for the player. Whittingham is a stalwart of the Cardiff City midfield signed a two-year contract extension in the summer of 2010 keeping him with the Bluebirds until summer of 2013.

After loosing out on receiving transfer fees for Ledley, Bothroyd, Matthews and Burke would the club be tempted to sell and actually bank some money.

Norwich's local rivals Ipswich Town were linked with Michael Chopra only yesterday and in the Metro they had Tottenham interested in Craig Bellamy.

Sunderland chase two ex-Cardiff players

It's the turn of Sunderland manager Steve Bruce to express an interest in soon to be next Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd. Bruce is also interested in Craig Bellamy both were main assets for Cardiff City last season.

Bothroyd already is rumoured to have a number club waiting to open talks with him about his future. With no transfer fee to worry about clubs have only his wages to consider with Steve Bruce rumour to be offering around £30,000 pre-week to the striker, a considerable increase on his wage packet with Cardiff.

Everton, Fulham or Celtic are looking for a striker to boost their attacking options for next season.

Has for Craig Bellamy he has made plenty of noise about wanting to stay at Cardiff, but can the club afford him? Last week there was talk of a player/coach role being offered to Bellamy, but with a transfer fee plus his wages to find it could be a case of 'a bridge too far' for the Bluebirds. Bolton are said to want him and today Sunderland are ready to enter any race if he becomes available.

Bothroyd transfer speculation

Like Cardiff City relegated West Ham are looking to rebuild their squad and could turn to Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd. The managerless East End club are expecting to lose a number of their top players during the summer after the drop to the Championship and on top of that the club is carrying heavy debts.

Bothroyd is out of contract and expected to be leaving the club and with no transfer fee he could well receive and number of offers over the summer. Manager Dave Jones has been linked with West Ham the manager job, but there are a number of options thought to be ahead of him. Owners David Sullivan and David Gold may see Bothroyd as an interesting target, but would the new manager feel the same. It could well scare off some as it looks like interference any new boss would have is own ideas about the players he wants.

Bothroyd has on a number of occasions said he wanted a move into the Premier League would he be will to stay in the Championship with West Ham or another team in the second tier of football. Already in the press the striker has been linked with Sunderland, Celtic, Everton and a Serie A club Lazio.

Rumour Mill ticking over

The season is not yet over with a one game to play and the possiblity of another to play, but the rumour mill keeps going on. There are a few rumour surrounding Cardiff players with free agent Jay Bothroyd sparking the most interest. He is after Premiership football but will he get the chance with Cardiff.

The Scottish press revealed that the Celtic boss Neil Lennon was at Reading with a striker in mind and watched Reading striker Shane Long and Jay Bothroyd. There seems to be nothing better for the Celtic boss then a freebie for out of the Cardiff City squad. He has already snapped up Joe Ledley and added young defender Adam Matthews who heads north at the end of the season, could Bothroyd be next. The under pressure Sunderland boss is also keen for the Cardiff striker it was reported early in the week and it article also mentioned wages of round £30,000 a week. He is now being linked with Serie A club Lazio for a summer move and not unknown territory for Bothroyd have spent a few seasons at Perugia earlier in his career.

Another player who could be moving again is loan midfielder Jason Koumas. His future with is parent club Wigan is unclear with his future with Cardiff also up in the air. Division One club Sheffield Wednesday are keen to sign him according to the South Wales Echo. His chances while with Cardiff have been limited due to a combination of fitness/sickness/injury and the number of loan players Cardiff City boss Dave Jones had to jiggle. The Cardiff boss can't really make decision about players until he knows which division they will be playing in.

Rumour and counter rumour is also surrounding the future of Cardiff City manager Dave Jones. he is again being linked with West Ham if the Eastenders are relegated it could be the end of present boss Avram Grant who it rumoured would be shown the door. The hierarchy at West Ham are under pressure with an enormous debt round their necks and see Jones has a boss who can build a team on a limited budget. He is nearly aways linked to vacant jobs that come up with teams in the lower reaches of the Premier League

This morning some more transfer rumours it the Daily Mirror who over the last few have linked Cardiff City with Coventry striker Marlon King and Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone.

Today's rumour surrounds Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd and Sunderland who along with Newcastle are reported to be keen to sign him. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is in the market for a striker and has been link with the Cardiff player before and could be again with no transfer fee to pay.


The carrot to any interested a number of club is that Bothroyd is out of contract in the summer and he can walk away on a free transfer. He has stressed on humours occasions he is a Cardiff City player and will only look to his future at the end of the season.

For sure the Cardiff City boss Dave Jones would like him to stay and signed a new contract, but Cardiff would have to win promotion. Bothroyd wants to make the step up to the Premier League where he hopes to in hence his chances of another England recall.

From the article in the paper we would thing a deal was all sown up already. It is also reported that Sunderland boss Steve Bruce could pay Bothroyd around £30,000-a-week, way out of Cardiff reach without promotion. Time will tell, but both clubs can expect competition for his signature in the near future he will be a popular target for the rumour mill.

3 points today - 21 to go

A win can take a shed load of pressure from your shoulders when you are a football fan, and today was one of them. Maybe it was the long international break on the back of a poor run of games that send my mind into over drive, but the run-up to today’s game was a nightmare.

I was overly pleased that Jay Bothroyd took the penalty award to Cardiff with in ten minute of the start of the game. They are normally taken by Peter Whittingham. After the game Cardiff City boss Dave Jones expressed surprised that the striker took the penalty. Jones said:

"I was surprised Jay Bothroyd took the penalty but he is now back on the score-sheet after a long break although I did think Peter Whittingham would take it."

Cardiff have recently have had trouble keeping hold of a lead but today they did and Cardiff when in at half-time 1-0 up. The other there Cardiff goals came in the second half with defender Dekel Keinan who extend the lead not long after the start of the second half and unlocked some of the tension in the air. That goal was soon follow by a third again it was down to a defender to score, Paul Quinn, his first of the season.

When Peter Whittingham popped in the fourth Dave Jones decided to make some chances, on went Darcy Blake for Jlloyd Samuel followed by Jon Parkin replacing Jay Bothroyd and Craig Bellamy was then subbed by Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Derby pulled one back with a extra time penalty scored by love him or hate him Robbie Savage.

Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd is coming under a torrid of abuse from a section of the supporters which is truly unbelievable. Some fans are just on happy unless they have a member of their own team to attack.

Its ok to boo, shout abuse, we paid are money so we can do what we like. So how about support the team, all eleven of them. One nil day, get behind the team and give them a lift and don’t let a thousand or so away take over the stadium. Why boo at the end just turn away and walkout in silence, it’s a more powerful statement a booing like a bunch of children. Would you boo if your dad, mum, family member or a mate fell no you would help them up wouldn’t you? Well fans go on about Cardiff City being a family well that’s pick them up. Well there are eight games to go before the end of the season and the club, team need our full backing.

Early in the season it was Lee Naylor attracting the attention of the boo crowd, now it’s Bothroyd. After a deadly start to the season he has since seen is goal dried up. The conspiracy theorists among the fan base have tied his sudden drip in form coincided with his international call up for England. On his return from the international break he played two games before getting injured with in ten minutes of the third leaving out for about eight weeks.

On is return to first team action he scored two before his fortunes in front of goal dried up again. Tomorrow against Derby if he was to score, will there still be boo’s ringing out around the ground. With eight games to go us fans need to become at twelfth player  on the pitch and support the team, players and the club. Forget about English baiting ..... WE ARE CARDIFF CITY .... Wales v England was last week. The cobwebs at the CCS need to be shaken off with the voices of 20,000 Bluebird fans in full voice. 

Hudson out - Bothroyd and Quinn fit for Derby

With a striker problems to handle Cardiff City boss Dave Jones a minor defensive issue has risen to curtail his plans for the next League game. He will be without ever present defender Mark Hudson of the Derby game and could be out for up to six weeks after he limped off during the Millwall game last Saturday. The official Cardiff City website confirmed he suffered a Grade Two tear of his knee ligaments.

Cardiff City's towering defender Mark Hudson has suffered a grade 2 tear to his knee ligaments after injuring himself in the 3-3 draw with Millwall on Saturday. Boss Jones has a number of options the fill the hole left in the centre of defence for Hudson. There are a number of options to partner Dekel Keinan in the heart of the defence, Gabor Gyepes came on to replaced Hudson and could be favourite to stop in. However, Jones could look to Darcy Blake.

On the upside, striker Jay Bothroyd and defender Paul Quinn are both expected to return for the Derby if there is no problems with their recover from their injuries during the international break. The boo boys may not be too happy.

Choprs backs Bothroyd to come good

Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra is backing the partnership with fellow striker Jay Bothroyd as a section of the fans call for Cardiff boss Dave Jones to unleash the ‘Beast’ Jon Parkin from the bench.

Top scorer Bothroyd has been come in for a lot of stick from some fans who believe he has been off his earlier season form. There is also talk of him going down to easy to gain free-kicks and penalties and that he as become a target for referees.  However, both manager Jones and Chopra have shown support.

Chopra talking about Bothroydi who has not score in the last eight games,

“I‘ve no doubt Jay will get it right very soon. He wouldn’t have scored so many goals this year if he wasn’t doing something right.
“It’s part and parcel of being a striker when you go through these phases but it’s how you come out of it. He’s strong enough.
“He hasn’t changed or big-time since he played for England.
“If Jay keeps working hard then he’ll score that goal he needs and he’ll be off again.”

The team will be out in a few hours and I would be supprised if Parkin gets the nod ahead of Bothroyd.

New WAG on the block

Is there a new WAG heading for the Grandstand of the Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd was out and about last week in London with his new bow Lisa Snowdon. According to the gossip columns they have been dating for a few months with friends saying it is still very early yet.

The radio presenter and come model is rumour to have not dating since breaking up with actor George Clooney over five years ago.

Bothroyd is separated from his wife and for the fashion conscous 28 year-old Jay is waering a velvet blazer, chunk kint scarf and jeans.

Bothroyd "Still not 100%"

As panic takes hold among some Cardiff City fans - with promotion in mind striker Jay Bothroyd has been coming in for some stick from a section fans. They feel he as not return to his best since his come-back, he was out for nearly two months with a hamstring injury.

He has played five games since his return, scoring twice but has not scored in the last three. Fans can only hope he hit peak fitness on Saturday for the visit to Nottingham Forest.


In today’s South Wales Echo he is reported as saying he is still not back to full fitness.

“After being out 7-8 weeks this has been really hear to get back into the pace of things. Still not 100% but I’ll be there soon.

“I’m not missing chances just not had any really apart from the Swansea one.”

Bothroyd in the dock a bit

Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd has run into Twitter trouble yesterday after twitting his displeasure of the state of the Cardiff City stadium pitch and the pitches at the Vale training ground.

He tweeted:

Our training pitches are the worst in the country along with our pitch!!!

Our pitch is just mud and sand, just bobbly Great stadium, great fans, great training ground, everything is great except the pitches.

It was quickly taken down but it was too late to stop his tweet hitting the Cardiff City messageboards. The pitch at the CCS has been a major concern with the fans even the club have there concerns. If you compare Cardiff City stadium with the Liberty Stadium, both share with rugby clubs but the condition of the Liberty is miles better.

During the fitting out of the stadium the club omitted to buy in the new specialist lighting system with helps the pitch stay in condition. It costs around £300,000 to buy and the is a 3 month waiting list at least for delivery so even if the club were to invest it wouldn’t help for this season but what about next season.

The Cardiff City chief executive Gethin Jenkins said:

“We are aware of the comments made by one of our players on Thursday.

“As a part of our ongoing pitch maintenance program, we have had turf experts visit the club on several occasions, including a visit this week.

“The reason for the current condition of pitch is partly down to some of the coldest weather in 100 years. We recognise the need for lights to help the growth, but these cost more than £300,000 to purchase, plus considerable running costs. When these lights were needed to be ordered we were under a transfer embargo and our priority at that time was to address some of the fundamental issues concerning the club and the business.

“The ground staff at Cardiff City Stadium have worked tirelessly this year to ensure matches have gone ahead and can’t be praised enough.

“Naturally as we turn the business around we will look again at lights in the close season.

“In the meantime, we will work hard to get the pitch back up to its normal high standards, helped no doubt by the coming spring.”

The conspiracy theories among the supporters believe there is a plan afoot by Bothroyd, his agent or even the club to get a transfer. However Bothroyd has wants to see out the season, Cardiff boss Dave Jones wants him to stay, the Malaysians are happy for him to say so do most of the fans some feel the club should cash in on the player everyone has an idea. I have one to like manager Jones keep him unless there is a crazy bid, there are only two days and a bit left before the transfer window is shut.

Cardiff City fans are happy to hear the club had rejected a bid for top scorer Jay Bothroyd yesterday, but it comes with a risk, he could walk away in the summer of free when his contract runs out. That move could cost the club round £2million but if he helps the Bluebirds to promotion that could generate tens of millions for the club.


Bluebirds boss Dave Jones said yesterday,

"We've had one enquiry for him and Jay knows about the enquiry," said Cardiff boss Dave Jones, who refused to name the club involved.

Although the team was not named, it is believe to have been Newcastle who were heavily rumoured over the weekend to be considering a bid.

News today brings more rumours with Sunderland who are looking to go one step better than North East rivals Newcastle and sign Bothroyd. According to press reports they see the Cardiff striker as a replacement for Darren Bent who is expected to sign Aston Villa in the next few days.

With all the manager rumours and counter rumours West Ham are said to be interested in Bothroyd. However which manager wants him, the present Avram Grant, who by all accounts is living on borrowed time with the Hammers or the manager in waiting Martin O'Neill, who is reported to be having second thoughts about the only West Ham thing.

Dave Jones the Cardiff City boss would be more then happy to keep his star striker and the player himself has constantly said he is happy to stay and make a decision about his future at the end of the season. Jones told the media yesterday,

"I had a long chat with Jay yesterday and I'm sure Jay won't mind me saying: Jay wants to stay at this football club.
"Even the club we spoke about, Jay says he doesn't want to go to.
"We said no [to the approach] and Jay knows about it, because his contract is up in June and people think they can come and take him for a measly amount of money. It's not worth what we are trying to do.
"So keep him and get the best out of him and then if he decides to stay with us or he decides to leave then that's what we will do. He wants to try and sort it out here, but he is entitled to try and get the best deal for him.
"If we want him to go because we have been offered vast amounts of money then Jay can say no because he is under contract," added Jones.
"We are trying to get him to sign here and I even spoke to Jay yesterday in training about trying to get some sort of deal done, and that is ongoing.
"But he is in his rights to do what he is doing and that is the way the football world is at the moment, and they are quite entitled to see out their contract and see what other offers are around. Is there anything wrong with that?
"It's up to us and up to him to come to an agreement that satisfies all parties, and if we can't satisfy all parties and a decision will be made either way."

Bothroyd happy to stay with Cardiff

If it not the back pages or the gossip pages (more on that later) Jay Bothroyd is in the news.

Some papers are saying an offer of £1.5million has been made others say Newcastle are preparing to make a bid, while the two clubs remain silent. When asked Cardiff City boss Dave Jones refused to shed any light on the subject while Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is looking to bring another striker and said at Jay Bothroyd is a player he had admired.

Bothroyd used Twitter to announce - “Newcastle is a great club but I’m really happy at Cardiff,’’ he went on to tweet. “OK I’m a Cardiff player, I’m focused on getting promotion with the Cardiff faithful.’’

Although getting the cash will not be easy has Chairman Mike Ashley unlikely to back his January transfer moves according to some pundits but the wallet could be open a bit for the right price, cheap.

Bothroyd and Newcastle - Fact or Fiction ?

The Northern Echo is linking English international and Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd with a move up north to join Newcastle. According to the reports Newcastle officials have had opening talks with Cardiff and are looking to capture the Championship leading scorer in a cut-price deal. They are hoping to take advantage of the fact Bothroyd is out of contract in the summer.

The Newcastle chairman Mike Ashley is notoriously tight when it comes to parting with cash but after a meeting between manager Alan Pardew and his chairman some money is available.

Bothroyd have said he wants to see out the rest of season with Cardiff before making a decision on his future. Bluebirds boss Dave Jones has make it clear he would like to keep his top scorer but realises a cash offer could tempt the club into selling. Cardiff are rumour to be willing to consider a deal for £2million to recoup so cash, no-one wants to see another situation like the Joe Ledley again.

There are a number of clubs linked with Bothroyd and the news of talks between Cardiff and Newcastle could bring others out of the woodwork. That the end of the day the Malaysian owners will have a major say on whether he stays or goes.

Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd has express his desire to stay with the Bluebirds until the summer. That should close a few cheque books and make manager Dave Jones happy has he sees Bothroyd as an integral part of his promotion push.

So the die is cast, Bothroyd will go free if Cardiff fail to win promotion. Dave Jones would like to resign him but I don’t thing there is a Cardiff fan who expects him to sign for another season if it happens to be the Championship again. It has been his goals that have help Cardiff stay at the top of the table. There would be no guarantee he would sign anyway if Cardiff were to win promotion. It could be the last chance for the 28-year-old striker  Bothroyd to play in the Premiership and have one last big payday.

A lot of teams will be knocking at his door for sure in the summer, that is if no-one puts a bid in over the next few weeks at tempts the Cardiff board into a sale. A club interested in the City striker could try to agree a pre-contract deal which could be beneficial to Cardiff City because it would put an end to all the speculation there is bound to be until the end of the season.

Bothroyd is rumoured not to be fit to return to the starting line-up for the visit to Stoke on Saturday in the FA Cup 3rd round fixture. The next league game is the foollowing Saturday Norwich away, a massive game with second place (Cardiff) v Third place (Norwich) and it is hoped Bothroyd will be fit for that game.

Fulham are still in the market for a striker and have been linked with Jay Bothroyd before but with pressure on Fulham’s boss Mark Hughes the seach has intensify.

The rumour has Millwall’s striker Steve Morison with a foot in the door for a spot in Fulham starting line-up but still Bothroyd is been linked.

With the rumour of Bothroyd and Chelsea cooling by the minute after comments from Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti. He himself is under pressure to save his job but when asked at an after match press conference simply rubbished the whole idea. Could Fulham be has close has he gets to Chelsea.

Atletico Madrid or  Malaga



The Spanish are coming according to Sky Sports News with the intention of trying to steal away City striker Jay Bothroyd on a free transfer.

The Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid and Malaga are rumour to be interested on talking to him and his agent about the possibility of agreeing a pre-contract deal to tie him up for a summer move. Being out of contract Bothroyd or is representatives can talk to any club and line themselves up a deal.

Bothroyd has stated many times before that he will not talk about his contract until the summer. He could choose to stay with Cardiff but that would only happen if Cardiff were to gain promotion. If Cardiff were to miss out again could would walk away free with no transfer fee coming Cardiff way.

There are other clubs also rumoured to be in the market and would love to sign him up on a pre-contract deal to save money. However Cardiff boss can’t do much but put in an offer to Bothroyd’s agent like the rest.

On the subject of all the transfer speculation he told the Daily Mirror,

"I’m trying to not let all the speculation affect me, the only things on my mind are to get back from this hamstring niggle and help Cardiff try and reach the Premiership.

"I can’t wait for the transfer window to shut so we can all try and get this club to the Premiership.

"I’m concentrating on my football and am letting my agent deal with the other stuff.

"It’s really important for me not to get distracted from the football and make sure I am fully focused on the job in hand.

"My agent has been speaking with the club over the last few months and we are still talking.

"I’ve made over 100 starts since joining here which is the most I’ve ever played in a 2 year period so the odd niggle is gonna happen but I feel good and will be back to help the boys as soon as possible.

"We were so close last year and it hurt, the fans are giving us great support and we have to try our hardest to get over the finishing line this season.
