Bellamy and Cardiff .... OVER

Same club, different boss – groundhog day
After all the rumours and counter rumours surrounding former Cardiff City loan signing Craig Bellamy he has decided to rejoin one of his former clubs - Liverpool. He left the Welsh training camp where he is preparing for Wales Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro to dart up to Liverpool for talks, which would mainly be about wages which were supposed to be a problem.

If they were a problem they have been sorted to a satisfactory conclusion to all involved now. Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez signed the Welshman in 2006/7.

Without Manchester City playing ball it was always going to be unlikely he would return to the Cardiff City Stadium, as a Cardiff playeranyway.
He did say at the end of last season, “They know I only want to play for them in the Premier League I don’t want to play for anyone else.
“They are my club and if I can’t play for them I won’t play for anyone else apart from Cardiff.”
Some fans will knock him for making the above comment and ending up at Liverpool. At the end of the day, if the best situation of him is Liverpool it is his choice. He signed a two year deal and this Cardiff City wishes him all the best.

Turner a Bluebird

CARDIFF City have signed Coventry defender Ben Turner and he will be the only business boss Malky Mackay has planned for today. The last day of the transfer window that is until the loans window ends next week .

The fee is believed to be £750,000 without Parkin who could not agree terms over a deal to sign for Coventry has part of the deal.

His hometown team Birmingham City were rumoured to be interested, but was it just a rumour or he decided to join the Bluebirds. Turner out injured since November last year with a knee injury, but is fit now and ready for first team action.

He will now have to compete with Cardiff existing defenders for a berth in the starting line-up and has signed a three-year-deal with Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Parkin staying

Parkin still a Bluebird
Looks like the deal between Cardiff City and Coventry City to take striker Jon Parkin's as part of a cash/player deal for Ben Turner is off after the Cardiff striker failed to agree terms.

The striker passed a medical, but as reported yesterday the deal was likely to fall through over his wages demands. He is believed to be on £8,000 a-week which was too high for Coventry to match.

Parkin will now stay with the Bluebirds but it will be interesting to see if he is loaned out or the possibility of a transfer out come January. He looks to be surplus to requirements in Mackay squad a is expected to be a bit part player unless a drastic u-turn in Mackay’s plans.

If Cardiff boss Malky Mackay wants Turner it will have to be a cash deal now.

Anton Ferdinand Signs

Due to Ferdinand's arrival delayed by heavy traffic in London, the paperwork was sent through at 22.59, but the R's latest summer signing has now been confirmed...

Anton Ferdinand becomes the latest established Premier League player to join us here at Loftus Road.

Ferdinand has cost the R's in the region of £4 million from Sunderland and has signed a 4 year deal.

Photobucket

Ferdinand exploded onto the scene at West Ham as a youngster and played his part in a fantastic centre back partnership with current QPR defender Danny Gabbidon.

Ferdinand fell out of favour and joined Sunderland when Steve Bruce was looking for defensive reinforcements but again Ferdinand found himself fall down the pecking order when Michael Turner and John Mensah forged a good partnership together.

Ferdinand, who can play at right back or centre back, told the Official QPR website :-

"The Club's moving forward and things seem to be buzzing around here at the moment.

"I came down from London on Wednesday and spoke to the gaffer, and was impressed with his thoughts on where the Club is going to go.

"I've heard good things about the Manager and, after speaking with him, it's clear that he wants the best for me and wants me to do well.

"As soon as I came out of the meeting with him, I knew that QPR was the Club for me."

Welcome to QPR Anton, we wish you all the best during your time here at QPR!

Shaun Is The Wright Choice For R's

On this transfer deadline day R's fans finally had reason to be excited as we would actually be involved for the first time in many years.

Photobucket

The first signing, albeit approaching 11pm on this deadline day, is Shaun Wright-Phillips!

Wright Phillips joins for a fee believed to be around the £6.5 million region and has signed a 3 year deal.

The 29 year old found himself surplus to requirements during his second spell at Eastlands and has opted to head back to West London and pull on the blue and white hoops and turn down offers from Stoke, Bolton and Wigan.

Wright-Phillips will be looking to rejuvinate his career in W12 and try and force his way into Fabio Capello's thoughts ahead of the Euro 2012 Championships next summer.

He spoke to the Official QPR website :-

"I'm delighted - I can't wait to kick-start my QPR career," Wright-Phillips said.

"Once I spoke to the Manager and saw the direction that the Club was going in, I wanted to be a part of that.

"I'm here now. Get behind me as best as you can, just like the City fans did, and I'll give you a hundred and ten per-cent every time I go on to the pitch.

"It's exciting times for QPR. With the new signings and the squad that we've got, the Club is heading in the right direction."

This is yet another fantastic addition to the R's and shows the ambition we have as a club and continue to not only settle for survival but to reach safety with a lot more comfort.

Welcome to QPR Shaun! We hope you have a successful time whilst you are here in W12!

Come on You R'ssssssssssssss!!!!

Parkin on the move

Coventry next for Parkin
The possible transfer deal that would bring Coventry City defender Ben Turner took a step closer with news the Cardiff City striker Parkin has arrived at Coventry for a medical. It was rumored there was a problem with the financial aspect of any deal his wages. Now he is having a medical and entering talks about personal terms the deal looks to be going along nicely, but is Turner ready to sign for Cardiff.

With only around 31 hours before the transfer window shuts (11pm tomorrow) his signature is not guaranteed with Birmingham believed to be in the chase. Others seeing Coventry's willingness to sell could show an interest in the defender as well .

It must be said Parkin was a surprise purchase by former manager Dave Jones back in January paying Preston £100,000 for his services. He found it difficult at Cardiff to break the Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd partnership making only three starts out of 13 games. He scored only one goal in a 1-1 draw against Norwich. This season he has Rob Earnshaw and Kenny Miller in front of him along with some exciting new young striker . He played in both Carling Cup games with tells you his prospects for this season are not rosy a move could be what he needs.

Turner passed medical claim

According the Coventry Telegraph Cardiff City target Ben Turner has passed a medical with the Bluebirds but his hold out to see if a bid comes in from his boyhood team Birmingham City. The transfer window shuts at 11pm tomorrow and again this time local press is suggesting Cardiff City boss is probably going to do his business when the loan window opens a week or so later.

The Midlands club is reported to be close to losing Scott Dann and see Turner has a likely replacement. Press reports suggest Dann is off to Blackburn in a £5m deal.

It is rumoured a cash plus player offered has been made by Cardiff with Jon ‘The Beast’ Parkin going the opposite way to the Ricoh Arena.

ITALY SERIES B - Torino VS Cittadella Aug31 2:45AM(GMT+8)

Armand Is R Man

Finally after waiting the weekend for his signature, Armand Traore becomes the R's latest summer signing. The 21 year old left back penned a 3 year deal at Rangers this lunchtime.

Photobucket

Traore was made to wait for the move due to Arsenal being down to their bare bones at Old Trafford and was on the wrong end of the 8-2 battering to Man United. Traore seemed to keep himself out of harms way and didn't do anything to jeopardise his move to West London.

Its safe to say that he would eight two be an Arsenal player for any longer than he would have to be. Excuse the poor joke!

Traore began his career in the youth ranks at Racing Paris and Monaco before moving to Arsenal in 2005 and going on to sign a professional contract in 2006. In his five year spell playing for Arsenal he wasn't given much game time and only managed to make 13 goalless appearances. In 2008 he was loaned out to Portsmouth to gain first team experience where he made 19 appearances playing as left midfielder, scoring his only Premier League goal against Sunderland. In 2010 he was once again loaned out but this time to Italian side Juventus for the season where he spent the majority of his time on the bench, subsequently only making 10 appearances in his time there. Traore has been capped by France at U19 and U21 level before making a single appearance for his native Senegal in 2011.

Traore told the Official QPR Website :-

"When I talked to Neil Warnock he was very passionate about what I could bring to the Club.

"He was very motivated about playing me week in, week out, and that's what I need at this stage of my career.

"I've not been able to prove and show what I'm all about because I've been at two big, big Clubs like Juventus and Arsenal.

"I'm looking forward to coming here and playing regular football.

"The ambition of the new owners and the calibre of players they are signing is something that really attracted me to the Club."

Traore will wear the number 13 shirt.

Welcome to QPR Armand, we wish you every success in the famous blue and white hoops!!

Mexican defender on trial

Cardiff City are reported to be checking out Mexican defender Rodrigo Inigo Del Hoyo during the international break period.

Defender Del Hoyo was with Club America in Mexico and according to stats from the Soccerway website last season he was unused on the bench three times. Cannot be sure about the accuracy of the stat, but it does not look healthy.
“We want to work with Rodrigo for a week or so and we can do that because he is a free agent,” said Mackay
He has spent his career in Mexico playing and is a free agent since being released earlier in the summer and has two weeks in which to impress manager Malky Mackay and is backroom staff.

Two horse race for Turner

CARDIFF City boss Malky Mackay has confirmed Cardiff is talking to Coventry over a possible deal that would bring in defender Ben Turner to his squad.

According to the Coventry Telegraph the negotiations are at an advanced on a £750,000 deal with Cardiff City striker making up the deal in the cash plus player.

"It is something we are trying to get done and we are in talks with Coventry City." Mackay confirmed.

There could be an obstacle on the player swap part of the deal and that is Parkin wage demands. Parkin his believed to be on £9,000 a-week at Cardiff a figure Coventry are unwilling to match according to the same newspaper.

Turner missed the majority of last season after suffering knee ligament damage, which required an operation he has yet to start this season.

Elsewhere in the press, they have Turner close to signing for his hometown club Birmingham City in a £1 million deal with add-ons, which could gazump the deal a Cardiff deal. Chris Hughton the Birmingham boss is looking for a replacement for the defender Scott Dann who looks set to depart.

That's Not Di Way It Was Supposed To Go

Today the R's fans made the 200+ mile journey to Wigan in the early hours of the morning hoping that the positive news of the signings of Joey Barton and Luke Young would help inspire the R's to a win ahead of the two week International break.

The Lofty Heights gang made the trip to the DW Stadium.

Once again we were in two cars with myself driving Jess, Sam and Luke and Lofty took to the wheel with PK and Steve as his passengers.

Lofty's journey started extremely early as he had to travel from Hemel down to Burnham and then head north to Wigan. In my car we had a slightly longer lay in, till 6.15, before taking to the road. In a highly uneventful journey (not counting Sam's bout of morning sickness on the side of the M6) we then pulled off the M6 to the inevitablilty of a few clangers being dropped. Firstly upon seeing the sign for Wigan Pier Luke immediately asked if we were near the coast which cracked everyone up. The second one to make everyone laugh was my apparent excitement of seeing an Asda and a Sainsbury's in the same retail park, in my line of work its rare to see so I did get slightly more carried away than I should've, this prompted the gang to goad me for the duration of the journey (luckily it was short) every time we passed a supermarket, gits!

We all arrived in Wigan just 15 minutes apart at 10.30 ish and parked at the Red Robin pub only to find that it was not due to open until 11am, so we made our way over to the Frankie and Benny's joint just opposite.

During our time in Frankies we all had a good catch up and everyone was feeling very positive about the game. We were even treated to some Spanish lessons everytime we went to the toilet, if anything I think it made us all want to go in there more often than we usually would!

Come 12:00 we all made the short walk over to the DW Stadium and got pretty wet in the process.

Photobucket

When we got inside the stadium we queued up for what seemed to be a lifetime for our drink and sample of the famous Wigan pies, that in all fairness weren't all that they were hyped up to be, we then made our way to our seats just in time to see the teams emerge from the tunnel.

Only one change was made to the side that won at Everton last weekend. Bradley Orr sat out through injury and was replaced by Bruno Perone. This meant the R's defence was make shift with all four being central defenders. This meant that Danny Gabbidon played at right back, Bruno Perone and Fitz Hall paired up in the centre and Matt Connolly took up his role at left back.

With the virus still rife in the squad, DJ Campbell once again didn't travel and Jay Bothroyd stayed on the bench as he still isn't 100% fit.

Starting 11 :- Kenny, Derry, Hall, Gabbidon, Taarabt, Faurlin, Buzsaky, Perone, Connolly, Agyemang, Smith.

Photobucket

The game got off to a pretty lively start and was fairly level even though it was Wigan that were creating the more threatening attacks.

Emerson Boyce strolled from right back all the way through the R's defence until he reached the edge of the penalty area before laying the ball off to Victor Moses who took aim from six yards out you thought that the deadlock was about to be opened, luckily for us his shot (or was it a cross?) evaded everybody in the box and ended up nearly going out for a throw in.

Straight from that the R's broke away and Derry found himself 25 yards out with the goal at his mercy. The evergreen midfielder unleashed a fantastic drive and Ali Al-Habsi in the Wigan goal had to be at full stretch to deny Derry his first QPR goal.

The R's seemed to grow in confidence from this and just a few minutes later came even closer.

Buzsaky fed Taarabt the ball on the left edge of the penalty area as we looked at it and the R's captain curled a sublime effort that seemed to be curling in at the far post, all the travelling R's thought it was in, but it cannoned off the post only for Agyemang to pick up the rebound and promptly pass it back to Al-Habsi.

Rangers came close again when a corner was only cleared as far as Buzsaky and his cross found Perone at the back post, but the Brazilian could only put his header into row Z and another chance went begging.

The R's were made to pay for their missed oppurtunities on 41 minutes.

Figueroa passed to Di Santo on the edge of the R's penalty area while the R's appeared to back off and invite Wigan to attack. Di Santo hit a decent shot towards goal that took a slight deflection and spun into the top corner of Paddy Kenny's goal. A well taken goal but the deflection definitely wrong-footed the R's goalkeeper.

Just before the half time whistle Taarabt had a free kick from 35 yards out. He decided to take it Ronaldo styli and hit it as hard as he could with a toepunt. The free kick took a wicked deflection and Al-Habsi scrambled across his goal line to tip the free kick onto the post before Wigan cleared their lines.

We may of been 1-0 down at half time but the sprits in the camp were still high. We should have gone in level and definitely played well enough to be going in at 0-0. You can rue the chances and having hit the post twice its fair to say that we were unlucky to be losing.

Photobucket

It was more of the same again in the second half with the R's pressing Wigan but also with Wigan hitting us on the counter attack with Rodallega and Moses.

On 61 minutes the R's make shift back line were dealt with another blow with Fitz Hall being forced off through injury and was replaced by Michael Harriman who was making his Premier League debut. This meant Harriman moving to right back and Danny Gabbidon reverting to his more familiar role of centre back alongside Bruno Perone.

Just five minutes later the R's were dealt with an even bigger blow.

Rangers relinquished possession far too easily and Di Santo found himself in possession 25 yards out and took aim, unfortunately for Bruno Perone the shot flicked up off the end of his boot and found the top corner of Kenny's goal once again. Two goals, two deflections, too harsh on Rangers.

Shortly after the goal Jay Bothroyd come on for Akos Buzsaky.

Bothroyd's introduction gave the R's more attacking impetus and made us look a lot more threatening, in fact Bothroyd done more in two minutes than Agyemang had done for the previous 70!

The R's last notable chance went to Perone. His header cannoned off the Wigan bar and out to safety.

It was then that you just knew it wasn't going to be our day!

Bruno Andrade came on for the final eight minutes in the place of Tommy Smith.

Andrade looked to be a real livewire down the left wing and looks to be one to look at for the future. Andrade was unlucky not to be able to claim an assist on his Premier League debut when his mazy run resulted in him sliding a great ball across the Wigan six yard box but no R's striker was on hand to tap into an empty net.

Photobucket

The scoreline was harsh on us today. Two deflected goals, we hit the woodwork on three separate occasions and had to play a weakened side due to the virus still lingering in the club. Perone looks to be well out of his depth in my opinion and looked to be a rabbit in headlights a lot of the time. His team mates did all they could to help him along the way but that only got him so far. For me Taarabt just doesn't look comfortable in the Premier League at the moment. Every time he ran at the Wigan defence in the first half he just ran into a defender and lost possesion. He appears to be getting knocked off the ball far too easily and is seriously lacking match fitness.

Faurlin also seems to be looking a shadow of the player that we saw in the Championship last season too. I think he's fallen over more times than he has successfully passed to a team mate this season. Having said that he did seem to improve in the final 15 minutes but he really need to improve the physical side to his game asap.

On to Man of the Match and there are plenty of positives for this. The gang were split with this today and it just goes to show how we all viewed the performance. Steve voted for Shaun Derry and another great battling display. Jess and PK opted for Tommy Smith and his energetic performance. Lofty opted for Matt Connolly who put in another good show when being played out of position again. The winner however with three votes from me, Luke and Sam is Danny Gabbidon. Gabbidon played extremely well at right back and when switching to centre back he looked extremely comfortable. He didn't put a foot wrong and read the game very well today.

Wigan Athletic: Al Habsi, Caldwell, Watson, Di Santo (Sammon 68), Moses (McArthur 68), Gomez (Stam 86), Boyce, Rodallega, Diame, Lopez, Figueroa.

Subs: Kirkland, McCarthy, Thomas, Jones.

Goals: Di Santo (41 & 66)

Bookings: Lopez (33)

QPR: Kenny, Derry, Hall (Harriman 61), Gabbidon, Taarabt, Faurlin, Buzsaky (Bothroyd 72), Perone, Connolly, Agyemang, Smith (Andrade 80).

Subs: Murphy, Helguson, Ephraim, Hewitt.

Referee: Mr M Oliver

Attendance: 17,225

After the game we made our way back to the cars and got very wet once again! It's just typical that we travel up north with the weather looking good at home but as soon as you go north of Birmingham the weather is always grey and miserable. Its safe to say we were all very glad to get away from Wigan and get home in time to relax with a curry in front of the tv at a decent hour!

Malky chasing Turner

The skysports.com website is reporting Cardiff City is interested in signing Coventry defender Ben Turner that can be filed under rumour for the time being.

He was out for most of last season through injury and has yet to play this season. The 23-year-old is regarded and a product of Coventry's youth system who has spent time on loan with Peterborough and Oldham.

Cardiff will have competition for his signature according to the website who also claims he is close to signing for the Bluebirds. The suggested is that Cardiff boss Malky Mackay wants' to tie-up the deal before the transfer window shuts last Wednesday night.

Cardiff are prepared to offer a cash plus player deal with Jon Parkin going in the opposite direction.Allow he is a former England U19 international he is eligible to play for Wales according to information found on the internet.

Cardiff City team v Portsmouth

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackey will be making changes for the team that played in the mid-week Carling Cup game. The team will look more like the team that face Burnley more than Huddersfield.

Mackay made one change from the Burnley starting line up dropping Mason to the bench with Blake starting. On the bench, there is no place for Keinan who is replaced on the beach by Kiss.

Marshall
McNaughton Taylor Hudson Gerrard
Whittingham Cowie Blake Conway
Miller Earnshaw
Bench Heaton, Quinn, Kiss, Gestede, Mason

Leicester City in the Carling Cup

The club draw took its time in coming because of the boarding chat among the Soccer Saturday pundits waffling on about Premiership football while most people waiting on the Carling Cup draw.

The Football League need to look into this the draw should have been the first item on the show. Most fans waiting for the draw have no interest in the Premier League sort it out.

There is no chance of a South Wales derby with Swansea getting batter in the week at Shrewsbury 3-1 with the home team scoring all four goals, but they are concentrating on the Premier League.

Finally 50 minutes into the show we have the draw first out Cardiff..... Manchester United, Manchester United but on Leicester City an all Championship 3rd round tie, but least it is a home game. The games take place week commencing 19th September.

The game is likely to be player on the Tuesday 20th and the following Sunday Leicester will again be visitors to the Cardiff City Stadium for a league game which is live on Sky Sports.

Malaysian international linked with City trial

THE Malaysian connection will see Safiq Rahim join Cardiff City on a two-week according to Cardiff City Chairman Tien Ghee speaking to the Malaysian newspaper the 'New Straits Times'.

Rahim is captain of the Malaysian national team and plays for Selangor FA in the Malaysian Super League and is midfielder. It was expected the player would be joining during the international break, but owing to is clubs involvement in the Malaysia Cup it could be has late as November before he can travel to Cardiff. The tournament runs from the 6 Sept to the 29th Oct.
"We had put it to Safiq to have a trial with us during the international break on Sept 8 when we will be holding a game for several others on trial. We are hoping he can play a part in that match."We watched him during (Malaysia's) matches against the English teams and we think he is a fine player. When we spoke to him about it, he seemed really excited about the prospect," said Chan in a telephone interview from Cardiff yesterday.
The player himself is looking forward to the experience of coming to Cardiff
"I am very excited. With an open heart, I will take this offer, give it my best, and do Malaysia proud. It's not every day an opportunity like this comes knocking on your door, especially for a Malaysian. So, I'm fully intent on seizing this chance and making the most of what will be offered to me," said Safiq.
If he were successful in his trail, it would not guarantee him being able to join the Bluebirds, e.g a work permit could be an obstacle. Being a non-European Union player the FIFA rule to obtain a work permit to work in Britain is you have to be ranked in the top-70 international teams, Malaysia are current 146 in the FIFA rankings.

The Cardiff Chairman also revealed at during the international break there will be a game for several other players on trial with the club. With days to go before the end of the transfer window and Cardiff City boss Malky Mackey still in the market for player's time is ticking on.

Goods news about Whittingham

Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham is a Bluebird until at least 2014 signing a three-year contract extension to his present contact. Great news for the fans as it will end speculation over his future. Whittingham talking to the official Cardiff City website said,
"There has been speculation about my future but hopefully today's news can put all that to bed.
"I'm delighted to have signed an extension with the club - it's something I've wanted to do for some time as I've never had the desire to go elsewhere.
"To know that the gaffer sees me as an important part of his squad is obviously pleasing.
"I enjoy working for him and look forward to my future here at Cardiff City."
The midfielder cost the Bluebirds a measly £250,000 for Aston Villa back in 2007. Since signing, he has been a first team regular scoring 55 goals helped along with his trademark free kicks.

Unlike the likes of Joe Ledley and Jay Bothroyd who ran out their contracts, Whittingham can see his future with the Bluebirds and has not played the wait and see policy employed be Ledley and Bothroyd. During the summer Nottingham Forest and Burnley were rumoured to have made enquires about him, but Cardiff were not interested in selling. City boss Mackay said
"I'll certainly make commitments to him in terms of how much I'm going to be driving him and pushing him every day in training and in games to get the most out of him.
"I think he's a top, top player and I'm delighted that he's here."

Young Hearts Run Free

The second new signing of the Fernandes/Bhatia era has been announced and its yet another former England International, Luke Young.

Photobucket

Young joins the R's from Aston Villa for a fee believed to be rising up to £2 million.

Luke Young started his career at Spurs in 1997 and made his name as a full back but never managed to hold down a regular first team slot. He made 58 appearances before moving to Charlton for £4 million in 2001.

Young was very popular at the Addicks and established himself as one of the best right backs in the country. In 2005 Young won the first of 7 England caps.

In 2007 following Charlton's relegation from the Premiership Young moved to pastures new and to one of the most northern clubs, Middlesbrough. Young cost Boro £2.5 million and signed a four year contract. However after just a season in the North-East, Young was on the move again, this time to Aston Villa for a fee rising up to £6 million and signing a three year deal in 2008.

Young has made 73 appearances for Villa but fell out of favour under Martin O'Neill and in 2010 Liverpool and Villa agreed a £2.5 million fee but Young turned the move down stating that he had more chance playing for Villa and would only be a back up for the Scousers.

Photobucket

Young told the Official QPR website :-

"I am ready for a new challenge," he said. "There are big things that are going to happen at this Football Club and I am really pleased to be a part of it.

"Myself and Joey signing here shows the intent of the Club.

"I am really looking forward to getting started and pulling on the blue and white shirt."

Young brings a wealth of experience and will be yet another fantastic addition to the squad and further strengthen our back line. To be able to sign a player of this calibre just shows the ambition that the new regime have and really want to establish ourselves as a Premier League club and bringing in these types of players makes the start of this journey even more exciting!

Welcome to QPR Luke, we wish you every success during your time here at Loftus Road.

R's Go For A Barton As Kaspars Exits

This afternoon QPR have announced that the R's have bagged their first big name in the Fernandes/Bhatia era as we unveiled Joey Barton as the newest addition to the R's revolution.

Barton joins on a four year deal and with no fee being paid to Newcastle, this really could be the bargain of the season!

Photobucket

Barton, often surrounded by controversy, has not had the quiestest of careers its safe to say and his off-field antics have often hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons but there is no doubting the ability of the man. Had he stayed clear of trouble previously then its safe to say that Barton could've been a multi capped England International as he is a sensational player when all that is put aside.

The most entertaining moment of the charismatic midfielder is during the time of his England call up which was just after he openly critisised the 2006 England teams failure and as he sat down for breakfast on his first meeting Frank Lampard got up and moved elsewhere, Barton's response was pure genius "I'm not going to steal your breakfast you fat prick", just say it how it is Joey, I like that style!

Photobucket

What I am personally looking forward to is having Barton in a team with Adel Taarabt and Joey trying to tell Adel that he's done wrong. Could it be a potential for another on field brawl between team mates or will Joey provide Adel the kick up the backside that Taarabt sometimes needs? All I know is that the leadership and battling qualities being brought into the club by Barton will be a massive positive for this club.

Barton told the Official QPR Website :-

"It's been quite a whirlwind, so to get things finally sorted and draw a line under it all is a great relief.

"The ambition of the Club really impressed me.

"There's obviously a great set of lads here already and that's why they had such a great season in the Championship.

"The gaffer is talking about adding two or three more bodies and that, combined with the potential of the Club and the new owners' ambitions, bodes really well for the future."

Bringing Barton in really does signal our intentions to not only survive in the Premier League but to also go on and establish ourselves in the top flight for many years to come.

Barton will wear the number 17 shirt.

Welcome Joey, we hope you provide much inspiration and have a very successful time in the Blue and White Hoops!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On to a more downbeat note.

On Wednesday Kaspars Gorkss swapped the Blue and White Hoops for the blue lines on a white t-shirt and joined Reading for an undisclosed fee.

Photobucket

Gorkss has been a fantastic servant to this football club since his 250k move from Blackpool three years ago.

Gorkss was undoubtedly the best back up we had for the first choice partnership of Fitz Hall and Danny Gabbidon so why was he sold? Was it to balance the books? Was it because we've tied down Shittu and Ramage to year long contracts on decent wages under the previous regime and now we need to balance up the wages? All I know is that if we do get an injury to either Hall or Gabbidon then we currently only have Matt Connolly that is capable of taking their place and beyond that we would struggle.

Tuesday nights performance against Rochdale showed that Perone and Shittu are not up to scratch and would need vast improvement if they are to stand a chance against any Premier League strikers.

Its sad to see Kaspars go but we wish him well and hopefully soon he will get the crack at the top flight that he deserves, I just hope its not with Reading!

City away to Portsmouth

Cardiff are back on the road Saturday for the trip to Portsmouth with the Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay looking to return to winning ways in the league.

Last season under Dave Jones, the Bluebirds did the double over the South Coast club winning both at home (3-0) and away (2-0) present boss Malky Mackay would be happy with a 2-0 score line tomorrow.Portsmouth's start to the season have has not set the Championship alight nor as Cardiff it must be said with only four games into the season.

They have won once drawn twice and lost one game that also beat Cardiff, Brighton. The Portsmouth game will be the last game for a while has international football will take centre stage with Cardiff have a two-week breakFans will again see clear out could be has many as nine who started against Huddersfield in the Carling Cup with only two players likely to start from that starting line up Craig Conway and Don Cowie.

Someone who is hoping to be involved in the game is Slovakian international Filip Kiss. If he does, it will be his début having picked up an injury in pre-season. It was also rumoured the Aron Gunnarson could make the squad, but will need a late fitness test before a decision to see if he is fit enough. It is very likely Mackay will stick with Kenny Millar and Rob Earnshaw in attack in a normally highly intimidating Fratton Park with round 2000 Cardiff fans in attendance.

Colombiana Trailer 2011 HD

Little Joey Ralls, showed a lot of balls. (Podcast)

Check out a great podcast from 'View from the Ninian' produced by Cardiff City fans Adam and Ben. There is some fruity language at times, but great chat about Cardiff City with some catchy jingles.

This week's pod is mostly about our 8-goal thriller against Huddersfield and our one-all draw at Turf Moor. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!!! No siree.

Ben battles to the death in optimism/pessimism corner, we respond to YOUR tweets and View From The NiniFAN goes tits up.

PLUS! Our usual nauseating blend of nonsense, rubbish and drivel.

Diolch! (Thanks!)

Cardiff win finally

It is hard, god it is hard being a Cardiff City fan when you throw away a two goal lead and the game goes tits up and get beaten 3-2, but wait a minute a later goal you jump for joy a late goal, its 3-3 here comes extra time.

Cardiff were 2-0 up within 17 minutes was a walkover on the cards by the end of the first half it was looking like Huddersfield were out of it, but it is never that easy and by the 70 minute, the visitors had squared the game at 2-2. With two minutes of normal time left Huddersfield took the lead while Cardiff fans were celebrating archrivals Swansea being thrashed. In injury time a lifeline was thrown in the direction of the Bluebirds and Don Cowie was on hand to score the equalizer full-time score 3-3.

I hate extra time as a rule, but when it saves Cardiff City bacon, it is a godsend. Cardiff could not secure a win after 90 minute how would they do with only 30 minute to get a win or it would be the lottery of a penalty shootout.

The jittery Cardiff City fans did not have to wait long with Craig Conway firing Cardiff into a lead and the night was finished off when Don Cowie sealed it in the 117 minute. So Cardiff are in the 3rd round draw with top of the wish list Manchester United the draw will take place on Soccer Saturday.

Some Things Never Change...

QPR 0-2 Rochdale

The curse of a Cup Competition struck again at Loftus Road, as Rochdale ran out 2-0 winners in the Carling Cup this evening against an under strength, but more than capable, QPR.

With the R's now in the Premier League, we were spared the agony of the First Round this year, with tha agony being delayed slightly for the second round. Like most of the early rounds, they are hardly a big draw, attendance wise and myself, Jenson and California Hoop were all that were there from the troops tonight, for one reason or the other. But I have to say, the ones that stayed away made a VERY wise decision.

With a low attendance expected, our normal seats in the Upper Loft were not available tonight, so we were shifted over to the South Africa Road stand for an uncomfortable first half - and that doesn't mean what was going on on the pitch! Anyone near or over 6ft tall is going to struggle in this stand and I spent the first half with my knees firmy wedged into the seat in front of me.

When the half time whistle blew, I stood up and let the blood start to re-circulate back into my lower legs and feet and we decided to move to the sparcely populated lower loft for a bit more comfort - and after managing to sweet talk a very understanding steward, we were kindly let through the gate and into a stand with much more leg room.

Anyway, onto the game...

Rochdale deservedly won 2-0...

QPR: Murphy, Orr (Harriman 31), Taarabt, Bothroyd, Perone, Connolly, Ephraim, Shittu, Andrade, Cook (Hewitt 73), Rowlands (Derry 71). Subs: Cerny, Buzsaky, Gibbons, German.

Man of the Match - it was unanimous between the three of us - the very kind steward that let us pass into the Lower Loft at half time, takes tonights vote.

To summarise, I must first give Rochdale the credit they deserve for their win. They were bang up for the challenge and took their goals very well - the second being a delightful chip from Gary Jones. We wish you all the very best in the next round and all the best of luck for the rest of the season.

But this was so disappointing in so many ways from a QPR perspective. It is blatantly obvious, with 8 team changes from Saturday, that the Premier League is the priority this season - and rightly so. But Rangers just didn't look at all interested and this game seemed to be used as a run out for a good few of the players and nothing more. In my opinion, the line up was stronger than anticipated and more than capable of beating Rochdale, with all due respect of course. Lee Cook and Martin Rowlands were extremely poor and I expected better from two players that you think would be out to prove a point. It must also be mentioned of just how unfit and out of shape Lee Cook looked. Bruno Andrade was the one shining light for me personally tonight.

Anyway, come Saturday I am sure this will all be forgotten about as we travel ridculously early to Wigan. Lofty Heights will be well represented at the game once more and Lee will return with what will no doubt be another unique away report.

Come on You R'ssssssssssssss!!!!

Cardiff City team v Huddersfield

Carling Cup and in come the changes and Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has made some tonight. Big shock trainee Joe Ralls gets the nod to start who came on in the second half in the 1st round clash at Oxford. Also getting a start is midfielder Darcy Blake with Mackay have a very strong bench at his disposal.

Mackay with strikers on his mind

Are Cardiff City back in the market for a new striker? Well according to the South Wales Echo they could well be, but it sounds like it will not be Craig Bellamy with a cryptic comment in the article 'he said it may not be the target man many believe he needs'.

Questions have arisen over the newly formed partnership between Robert Earnshaw and Kenny Miller is it working, will it work or their style of play too similar. It's not the local press discussing the issue but fan have also been debating the subject. If Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay is missing so high up front he as it with Jon Parkin (6'4") and Rudy Gestede (6'4"). They both started in the Oxford United Carling Cup game neither scoring.
"I can understand it. But I believe the dynamics of two good players playing together is not a problem," said Mackay.
"At my last club we certainly did not have a target man, but we had a striker who scored 26 goals.
"It's about having the quality. We are going to look for one who has the quality as good as you can get within the finances available and from who is available.
"There's only so many out there who can play Championship football. It is a small pond you are fishing in."
Gestede and Parkin could both start tonight against Huddersfield with Nat Jarvis on the bench he scored after coming on for Gestede. The Cardiff boss is looking to progress in the competition and by resting some of his squad members, it will not dent the Bluebirds chances.
“We do need to guard a few players ahead of Saturday’s trip to Portsmouth,” said Mackay.
“We’ve had a fair amount of games now. With the size of the squad we have it has taken a fair toll on them.
“But we are approaching the competition with full respect as I always have done in previous years. We want to win as many games as we can and we are expecting a tough game against Huddersfield.
“We want to go as far as we can in both cups this season.
“If we can get past Huddersfield we might pull one of the big clubs or even pull one of the very small clubs and try to go on as far as we can.
“That’s our aim, I’d love to go as far as we can in this competition.”

Bobby comes good at last....

Signing of the Summer ?

So the trip to Accrington brought back memories of the good old days in League Two. A warm beer, an open terrace that looks decidedly dodgy to stand on and the sight of as many flags as fans in the home end makes you remember how good we've had it in the last few years. The fact that we could have been two, or maybe three goals down in the first ten minutes, was a little worrying to say the least. You could give the defence the benefit of the doubt though to a small degree. I struggled to watch the action from the terrace with the blazing sun in your eyes i'm sure the back four were having a few problems. Young Accrington striker Kurtis Guthrie gave Nelson and Reid a good game in the early going, bustling through the defence at ease and bringing a couple of good saves from Josh Lillis. The Iron got more and more into the game, only troubled by a hard tackle on former Accrington favourite Jimmy Ryan, that would see him miss the next couple of games with a dead leg. Late goals from a Chris Dagnall penalty and a curling Andy Barcham shot from the edge of the box put the Iron through to a mouth watering home tie with the once mighty Newcastle United at Glanford Park. The same team that only a couple of years ago were humbled by "Little Old Scunthorpe" will probably give the fixture a bit more of a go this time for fear of the upset happening again.

The following home game against Preston brought back terrible memories form last season. The night that Ian Baraclough lost his job, after a 3-0 defeat by then fellow strugglers PNE was possibly the lowest pint in my time as a fan. This time a few of the players looked like they had a point to prove. A slow start to the game looked like our undoing again. An early strike from Ian Hume, the man who on that fateful night nicked my stool at pitchside for a few minutes, scored from outside the area, allowed to have a couple of touches before smashing past Josh Lillis. Preston manager Phil Brown did a dance of joy on in the dugout after the goal, much like he did last time at Glanford Park. A late goal, smashed home by that man again, Andy Barcham sent the perma tanned former Hull manager in to a fit of rage on the touchline. Holding his post match team talk on the pitch will probably have embarrased his players into pulling there socks up in the future. One player missing from that game was Jordan Robertson, afterwards it became clear he had broken his ankle after falling heavily after a Sam Togwell challenge in training. You've got to think he's a bit unlucky, only playing a few games before missing out for what will probably be a good few months, hopefully he'll be raring to go on his return to action !

Jordan Robertson
Unlucky ?
Following on from a good point gained against a decent looking Preston side was the visit of Oldham. The first game i've watched from the stands for a while was a terrrible footballing spectacle. Another slow start was our downfall yet again. Oldham looked to exploit our full backs at every opportunity. Cross after cross was whipped in to put pressure on the back four. A fantastic curling strike from David Mellor put us 1-0 down. Chris Dagnall levelled the scores, with a solo effort that brought back memories of a wonderful Paul Hayes goal scored in a Humber derby a few years back. The fans got behind the team well from there but a late free header condemed us to defeat. It feels strange watching from the stands after only seeing games from the touchline. You might not believe me but you really don't hear much from the stands when at the side of the pitch. The only time you really hear anything is after goals are scored. It was good to be amongst the fans and hear the cheers, the boos, the chanting. The fans got behind the team after the equaliser but when the game was going against us the fans got on the backs of some of the players. I'm a believer that if you pay your money, your entitled to your opinion, so i'll not say they're not right to voice your opinions. It just goes to prove though, if the game is going right the fans are more likely to be on your side, but as soon as your start to struggle their on your case, sometimes i think it would be better if they were behind you whatever was happening.
The one thing we seemed to be missing was the creativity of Jimmy Ryan. So far this season he's looked a very good signing. A lot of rumours seem to say that we are waiting to see how much Ryan's tribunal fee will be before we sign anyone else, this could be part of the reason why numerous trialists played for us in pre season but none of them were signed, or could that be a conspiracy theory ? Ryan and Barcham look like our best players by far. If only Knill was able to bring in another nine players he wanted we might be running away with things !

Bobby Grant scores in pre season
What did i know. It's only a couple of weeks ago i wrote of Bobby Grant as having no hope of becoming a goal scorer. Despite a couple of pre season penalties he'd never scored for the first team. The odd run out here and there from the bench, as well as starting at the likes of Leicester last season the young scouser has never really set the world alight. Until saturday against Charlton. It was a bit of a surprise to see him in the starting line-up ahead of Garry Thompson but manager Alan Knill seems to have a lot of faith in Bobby to score the goals the Iron so desperately need someone to score. Thompson has done well to play so many minutes so far this season, after last season turned into a washout with a persistent groin injury, but has looked like it's too much too soon at times. The fact that Thompson and Chris Dagnall play a similar kind of game doesn't suit the team either, so Grant's energy and long distance shooting ability is a different approach. The fact that, by all accounts Grant had a stormer against the Addicks. Two goals, including a late late equaliser, repaid some of the managers faith. It's still to be shown whether he can be the answer to the goal scoring puzzle in the long term, one thing for sure is that the fans will have a bit more confidence in him now. The next week sees us play the game against Newcastle at GP followed by the trip to Sheffield Wednesday on saturday. Hopefully we can keep a Rob Jones as quiet as a certain Mr Hayes was at the Valley. Knill seems to be putting his stamp on the team. A good passing side that play fast flowing football is a joy to watch, the slow start to games could just be the thing that holds us back. It's interesting to see that in all the league games so far we've had to come from behind after conceding early on. If we can start games as well as we've been finishing them then good times could be ahead, I've certainly got my fingers crossed for at least one trip to the big smoke to see that famous arch again !

Up the Iron

Carling Cup and Huddersfield tomorrow night

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay can take his mind off league matters for a day or was so with the next game tomorrow has it's a Carling Cup fixture. Well maybe not because he is likely to use the game against Division 1 club Huddersfield with one eye on the league trip to Portsmouth on Saturday.

In the win over Oxford United in the last round, Mackay made wholesale changes to the team that opened the league season at West Ham on the previous Sunday, but he is unlikely to do the same for the Huddersfield game. With the number of injuries mainly in the midfield, he would be hard pushed to make too many changes anyway. Talking in the press on the subject Mackay said,
"There's not a huge change-around to happen, we've got another four or five players that can come in. "But that apart, we're playing against a good team on Tuesday night and we've got to try and get through the tie."
So what can we expect? Tom Heaton in goal should be on the cards with a sprinkling of fringe players up front Miller and Earnshaw have not come out all guns blazing so would he give them the start or plum for Parkin and Gestede maybe. It will be the first time Cardiff and Huddersfield would have met in a cup competition and in the league, it is 2002/2003 when Cardiff won 4-0 at the old Ninian Park.

In the league, they have yet to taste defeat and beat Notts County away to face the trip to the Cardiff City stadium. If Cardiff City goes through to the next round, the draw for the Round three will take place Saturday on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

Tommy Leaves Toffees In A Sticky Situation

Today the R's faithful hit the road for their first Premiership away game in 15 years and hoping to put in a good performance on the back of last weeks defeat against Bolton.

As always the Lofty Heights gang were in attendance.

The gang were travelling in two cars today as there were so many of us were attending this fixture. In one car was me, Jess, Sam and Luke and in the second car was Jenson, Lofty, PK, Jo, Smithy and an Everton fan.

The journey was very smooth for both parties and we both arrived in Liverpool just 20 minutes apart.

Photobucket

We all met at the entrance of the Bullens Road Stand where we were due to be taking our seat and all had a good catch up on the street discussing the past few days at Rangers'. Its fair to say we all have renewed optimism now that Tony Fernandes has bought out the poison dwarf and the man from the you've been tango'ed adverts, to join forces with the Mittal family and Amit Bhatia returning to boardroom level.

One rumour we did hear outside the ground was that in the near future an announcement will be made in regards to the Club Crest. Apparently we will be reverting back to the old crest. One of the reasons behind this is because the majority shareholders want rid of anything that represents the former majority partnership so that we can begin the new era with a fresh, clear approach that has the fans and the communication to the fans a lot clear and not the smoke and mirrors approach of old.

All of the gang entered the ground at about 2 but myself and Jess had to hang around outside until Iceman arrived as we had his ticket for the game and also for next weeks game at Wigan. Whilst we were waited for him we bumped into Michael and Debbie before Jack then walked by with his family members.

Finally at 2.30 Iceman arrived so we could get an reunite with the gang before kick off. Lorna had arrived and was already with the gang before we all met up and took our place in our seats.

As we were waiting for Iceman the team news broke, all we saw was that Jay Bothroyd and DJ Campbell weren't in the starting line up, the latter not even on the bench.

It wasn't until I saw a tweet from Amit Bhatia saying "gonna be v diff day, some bug hit the camp - DJ hasn't travelled, Jay sick, Adel sick but starting, Matty C sick but we need him. OUCH!!"

Explaining why we were starting with just Patrick Agyemang up front.

Starting 11 - Kenny; Orr, Hall, Gabbidon, Connolly; Derry, Faurlin; Buzsaky, Taarabt, Smith; Agyemang.

Rangers started off looking to impress and put together the passing football that made them such a force in the Championship last season.

Within five minutes we had our first chance.

Connolly and Taarabt combined down the left side before Connolly crossed for Tommy Smith in the centre and he side-footed his effort just past the left hand post.

Even though we were the away side we were finding our feet and growing in confidence and putting together string of great passing football before Taarabt got fouled on the edge of the Everton box.

Taarabt dusted himself down and swing in a wicked free kick that curled just wide of Tim Howard's goal.

Everton began to work their way back into the game and were awarded a soft free kick just outside the R's box.

Leighton Baines stepped up and curled his free kick over the wall and onto the bar before Rangers cleared their lines.

Minutes later and we had the opening goal.

After great passing, coupled with a great interception from Shaun Derry, Buzsaky found himself in possession and fed Tommy Smith the ball just inside the Everton box, he turned and had enough time to pick his spot and curl the ball around Tim Howard and into the bottom right corner. Cue jubilant and wild celebrations by us all in the away end!!!

For the remainder of the half Everton tried turning the screw and put more pressure on the R's defence.

On 40 minutes Everton had by far their best chance of the game. Beckford crossed to the back post to Cahill who was unmarked and he somehow missed the target from three yards out.

When the half time whistle blew you can easily say that the 2,000+ travelling fans were extremely happy with the slender lead that in all fairness we deserved for all the hard work, movement and fantastic passing that we were putting together.

Fitz Hall and Danny Gabbidon were immense at the heart of the defence whilst Shaun Derry was putting in a determined and gritty performance as he guarded the space just in front of the back four.

Photobucket

Everton must have had a bit of a talking to before they came out for the second half as they came out all fired up and had the first chance of the half.

Rodwell found space down the Rangers' left and his shot was safely gathered by Paddy Kenny.

On the hour mark Agyemang looked as if he landed heavily when challenging for a header and he was down getting treatment for five minutes before being stretched off to a warm applause from the R's fans and a minority of the Everton fans booed him as he was taken off. The ill Jay Bothroyd replaced him.

Everton fans were getting restless and 10 minutes into the half David Moyes tried playing his first trump card as he took Jack Rodwell off and Mikel Arteta replaced him.

Ten minutes later and the home fans were booing even more as they showed their disapproval of striker Jermaine Beckford being replaced my midfielder Fellani (I'm not even going to pretend to know how to spell his first name!)

Everton continued to pile on the pressure and the resilience of the R's defence as well as Shaun Derry marshaling the rearguard and making challenges all over the pitch.

Rangers still looked to break but they were spending large parts of the remainder of the game in their own half. When Louis Saha came on with 15 minutes to go you just hoped that time would fly by and hope that the final whistle would hurry up and arrive!

When the board went up with the injury time on it we found out we had five more minutes to hold on, FIVE!

Everton just carried on trying to break down the R's defence but despite their best efforts they could not deny us of our first away win in the Premier League since we won at Hillsborough in 1996 (thanks Iceman for that fact!)

Photobucket

What a fantastic few days for everyone at the R's this week! The Tony Fernandes/Mittal era began on Thursday and just two days later we go to Everton with a squad badly affected by illness and we go and fight our way to a 1-0 victory, it just does not get any better!

Some of the football we played in the first half was fantastic and if we continue to knock the ball around in that manner and then get a few bodies in the box to cause defenses more problems then we will fair really well this year.

The names being linked to the club are very exciting and this really is a great time to be a QPR fan.

Man of the Match today was a unanimous decison. There were brilliant performances from Danny Gabbidon, Fitz Hall and Akos Buzsaky(considering he's not played 90 minutes for quite some time). However our decision went to the charismatic, battling and evergreen Shaun Derry for his determined display, putting his foot in on everything and working tirelessly through the game.

Everton: Howard, Baines, Heitinga (Saha 74), Jagielka, Distin, Beckford (Fellaini 64), Cahill, Neville, Barkley, Osman, Rodwell (Arteta 55).

Subs: Mucha, Hibbert, Vellios, Anichebe.

Booked: Osman (81)

QPR: Kenny, Orr, Derry, Hall, Gabbidon, Taarabt, Faurlin, Buzsaky, Connolly, Agyemang (Bothroyd 57), Smith (Ephraim 66).

Subs: Murphy, Gorkss, Perone, Vaagan Moen, Andrade.

Goals: Smith (31)

Bookings: Hall (39)

Attendance: 35,008

On our way home in the car, Jess marked the predictions across the leagues made by Luke, Lofty, PK, Jenson, Jo and myself.

It was a close contest but Luke marked his first prediction win as he won on 27points, PK and myself shared 2nd place on 25points, Jo came fourth with 23 points, Jenson 5th on 22 points and Lofty picked up the wooden spoon (usually owned by Jenson) with 17points.

The gang all arrived safely home at 8.40 and all in time to enjoy our performance on Match of the Day.

Liverpool victory over Arsenal

Well, i just want to credit myself that my prediction is right. Though both good team were on the match, still the score had been under 2.5. Hurray LFC!

Cardiff City team v Burnley

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has not been panicked into making in changes after the Brighton mid-week defeat in fact he has made no changes. It is the same with the bench kicking off with the same five.

Marshall

McNaughton Taylor Hudson Gerrard

WhittinghamCowie ConwayMason

Miller Earnshaw

SubstitutesHeaton, Keinan, Quinn, Blake, Gestede

City in need of three points

Cardiff City will want to see winning ways back for Burnley today after the mid-week upset and defeat to Brighton. The Welshman's record at Burnley's Turf Moor over the last few seasons as seen three games drawn 1-1 last season and the two previous games 2-2 and 3-3 what is the betting on 0-0 today.

On the team front, it will be interesting to see how manager Malky Mackay reacts to the Brighton defeat does he have scope for changes with the lacked depth and numbers he has been talking about. His midfield options are reduced with the injuries at the club he is hopeful Aron Gunnarsson who picked up an injury early in the Bristol City game and missed Brighton could be in contention along with Filip Kiss who is on the mend according to reports and his yet to make his debut for Cardiff.

The makeup of the bench will be just as important with a number of fans feeling Mackey got it wrong against Brighton with it being too defensive with not enough attacking options. It has not helped with the return to five substitutes instead of the seven last season making a major difference to the balance of the bench. Most managers have a goalkeeper on the bench, which leaves just four outfield spots for the manager to full. If the football governing bodies and club chairman wanted to make such a change they should have made it five or seven players on the bench leaving it up to the manager to decide still only using three.

In the press today, Mackey said there is no rush rushed into making any new signings and it could take until September for the right players. Any strengthening of his present squad could see two or four players coming in and if you look to the top end of that figure, he would have brought in 13 new players since taking over. There are only 11 days before the transfer window closes at 11pm on 31st of August and seven days later, the emergency loan window opens. He told the press,

“We need more.
“We’re enquiring about players and are talking to clubs. It’s something we keep forging on with and, whether it becomes the loan market or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
“But it has to be the right type of player and person.
“Two players would be great and four would be fantastic, but they have got to be either as good or better than we already have or potential players we can develop.
“I could have a late night on deadline day, but it won’t be a knee-jerk reaction on a player I haven’t looked at.
“If it happens late it will be a player I have watched closely and the deal just takes that long.
“When players come up late there may be a reason for it and they often come back to haunt you.”
Pete Whittingham is hoping to make his 300th club career appearance today at Burnley.
