Something for the weekend (football related) (2/3/11)

Keeper scores his hundredth career goal or maybe not
Goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni, 38, is the first keeper to score 100 goals when he scored for his team Sao Paulo at the weekend. Although Fifa says the 38-year-old, a member of Brazil’s 2002 World Cup-winning squad, has 98 goals but Ceni counts two from unofficial friendlies. He regularly takes penalties and free-kicks for his team with none of his goals coming as an outfield player.

We could be so luckly
The scantily-clad cheerleaders at Crystal Palace are being blamed for the poor form on the pitch. Some fans have called them glorified pole dancers on grass with one fan saying,
“When they come out waving their pom-poms I just hang my head.
“They put everyone off the game – you see the players eyeing them up when they should be focusing on the game. The sooner they go the better.”
The club are happy with ‘The Crystals’ with a spokesman for the London club rebuff the negative comments and claim they were a excellent advert to the club. They are passionate about what they do, which their do off their own bats and don't earn a penny. However the journalist or who came up with story should have check-out the facts first.

The stats show that since The Crystals were formed the Londoner have yet to loose a league game at home, winning four and drawing five. They beat my team Cardiff City in that run of games. Maybe it’s the opposition players who are being put off.

Hell of a send off

A young football fanatic was given the ultimate send off by his friends. Young Colombian 17-year-old Christopher Jacome gunned down while playing football in his local park with some friends.

His friends decided he should see his team Cucuta Deportivo play for one last time against rivals Envigado. So they marched into the funeral home and took his coffin, they reached the General Santander stadium with the home team 1-0 down. He was then passed around the 42,000-strong crowd filling the stands and it’s reported his presents inspire his side to a 1-1.

Stadium officials are to hold an investigation into how the dead body was allowed into the ground.

Hover-clouds 'to block out sun at Qatar World Cup in 2022

Meanwhile in Qatar they have come up with another idea to keep fans cool at 2022 World Cup. They plan to make all the proposed stadiums air-conditioned to stem the summer heat. Now they have a Simpson’s-style idea to blockout the sun.

Qatar 2022 World Cup organisers have already, but a forward thinking bunch - perhaps inspired by TV show The Simpson’s - are taking it one step further by designing cloud-like craft that will hover between stadiums and the sun.

Mechanical engineers from Qatar University say they have the ability to design and develop a craft which could be used to keep the heat off players and spectators during the World Cup.

Shakira song banned

Colombian singer Shakira has been kick-off the playlist Bernabéu stadium home of Real Madrid.

The reason is simply because she is dating Gerard Pique who plays for deadly rivals Barcelona. Her hit 'Waka Waka' was reported to be played during pre-match build ups and at half-time at Real Madrid games -- but not anymore.

I don’t think Swansea City fans would be happy to sitting there with Cardiff City Superstar by Helen Love blaring out.
