Looking more and more like Shearer

The Daily Mirror has all but given the Cardiff job to Alan Shearer and has gone so far to name his assistant Tommy Craig. That the moment they are the only news agency carrying this story. The other morning papers are talking about talks taking place. If it is Shearer it will be more than the curve ball I was talking about earlier today it will be like a nuclear bomb going off in the middle of the Cardiff City Stadium.

What will he bring to the post? Eight games of management at Newcastle United not much experience there, but good that sitting on the sofa of Football Focus and Match of the Day as a football pundit. The debate over Shearer is lighting up the messageboards and the likes of Twitter and Facebook with the majority against the thought of Shearer as manager. Once whoever is named boss they should receive the full support of the fans.

If he comes it could put to sleep any chance of Craig Bellamy returning to the club next season. Bellamy and Shearer's relationship deteriorated when abusive text messages were sent from his phone during his spell at Celtic to the Newcastle captain. Shearer reportedly threatened to "knock his block off" if Bellamy returned to Newcastle.

The rumour is that Cardiff will name their new manager tomorrow and put an end to all this madness. All this crap should be squarely lain at the door of the board for not being decisive enough after the Reading game. Dave Jones should have been sacked on the night of the Reading defeat within days not weeks later. History now but if they would have done that at the time maybe the new boss would have been in the job for weeks now.

This whole new manager thing is driving me up the wall we have no idea what is going on and it is getting beyond a joke?

Away from the news threads for over an hour or so and Alan Shearer's name is linked with the Cardiff job in this bookies led rumour. Sudden interest in the ex-Newcastle player is coming out of Ireland and more interestingly from the hometown on one Roy Keane.

A spokesman at the bookmakers William Hill explained:

"The market has reacted to a weight of money placed on Alan Shearer to get the Cardiff job in the Cork area of Southern Ireland.

"In most cases these bets come from a massive rumour that circulates in one area and what's interesting in this case is that it's come from Roy Keane's hometown.

"It could be possible that Roy Keane has said something about Shearer taking over at Cardiff and people have reacted by putting money down on it."

Shearer since retiring from Cardiff has carved himself a career in the media has a pundit with the BBC and had a bash at management with Newcastle United, but it didn't last long only eight games. He was only taken on for the eight in a desperate move to keep Newcastle in the Premiership, but that was to fail. He wanted the job and so did the fans wanted him to have the job, but the Newcastle board plumed for Chris Hughton. So is he the curve ball in the race to the dugout at the Cardiff City Stadium. He would be a more high profile boss if the rumour turned out to be right.

It's now being reported that Watford at no approach has been made to talk to their manager Malky Mackay if so who was interviewed yesterday?

The latest quote from Watford chairman Graham Taylor

"We've had no contact from Cardiff.

"There has been a lot of talk that it is almost a done deal, but we have heard nothing from Cardiff.

"Until we hear anything differently there is nothing more I can say."

People (fans) are say don't worry there is plenty of time to sort the squad out everyone's on holiday and contracts done run out until the end of the month. Well Championship rivals Derby County are about to make their sixth signing. We are becoming a laughing stock the big problem is the lack of football experience at board level is becoming a serious problem. If you believe the rumours the new manager could be named today or the middle of next week.

According to rumours and paper chatter Cardiff City will meet with Watford manager Malky Mackay sometime today and could be name manager today. It looks like Cardiff's Chief Executive Gethin Jenkins and director Alan Whitely have found their man if you believe to rumours. He has been linked to a number of clubs since taking over at Watford, Newcastle and Burnley being two.

While all this rumours surrounding Mackay play out in the press and internet there has been no word from Watford until today. The Watford Chairman and ex-England boss Graham Taylor is quoted as saying,

"At this moment in time, we have not had an approach from any club for Malky.

"That said, in football you never know what will happen so you can never tell.

"Malky is linked with virtually every job that comes up. That is because he has done a decent job at Watford and, football being what it is, what you come to expect."

Is Mackay the right man for the job or the cheapest? He has been with Watford since signing for them from West Ham on a free transfer back in 2005. In January 2007 he took over as first team coach at Watford and played his last game the following January on the departure of Aidy Boothroyd later that year he became caretaker until Brendan Rodgers was appointed. When Rodgers resigned in 2009 Mackay was offered the job and as recently as March signed an extended three-and-a-half years contract.

In the two seasons he has been in control at Watford they have finished the seasons mid-table. Not the best record compared with some of the others linked with the club so what makes him so special to put him in front of the pack.
