Goodwillie cleared

Is Dundee United striker David Goodwillie back on the menu now the serious sexual assault has been dropped? Cardiff Malaysian owners have been rumour to be waiting on the outcome of the court case before finalising any deal. Cardiff are reported to have had a bid for the player accepted weeks ago beating off Rangers who failed to match Dundee United's asking price. United Chairman Steven Thompson said that the club would not sell the striker for anything less than £2 million.

The police received a complaint back in January when a woman contracted them over an incident involving the player. He was arrested, but today the case was dropped for 'insufficient evidence' meaning the case is now closed.

A spokesman said: "The Procurator Fiscal at Livingston received a report concerning a 21-year-old male, in connection with an alleged incident on January 2 2011.

"After full and careful consideration of all the facts, Crown Counsel has instructed no proceedings on the basis that there is insufficient evidence in law.

"The case is now closed."

How it is a case of wait and see if the player is still in the sight of Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay. However, there is still another court case hanging over Goodwillie. He is due at Glasgow Sheriff Court on 18th August to face a charge of assaulting a man in Glasgow city centre last year.

Two lined up to sign tomorrow

CARDIFF City are hoping that the drawn out transfer of Scottish striker Kenny Miller will be over tomorrow as the Bluebirds wait for a piece of paper from Bursaspor to complete the deal. Also keyed up to sign tomorrow is Rudy Gestede the young striker who had a trial while Cardiff was on pre-season training in Spain.

The young Frenchman must have impressed the Cardiff manager Malky Mackay and his staff because they asked him to come back to Cardiff at the end of the Spain trip. However, the player decided to go back to France think things over. He was in Cardiff yesterday according to reports for a medical and will sign tomorrow. Mackay said about the youngest,

“He is joining us on a permanent basis. Rudy is 6ft 3ins tall, he has pace and has an aerial presence. It’s a learning process because he is, at 22, still young, but he has a lot of potential.”

As for the Miller deal, it was completed Thursday with an announcement expected on Friday, but without the necessary paperwork Cardiff were left in limbo until tomorrow anyway when it should all be finalised. City boss Malky Mackay said,

“We are just waiting for an international document – and that’s on the way.
“We have agreed the fee and personal terms, while Kenny has taken and passed his medical. He trained at the Vale of Glamorgan yesterday while we were at Bournemouth for our match.
"Then he went to bring his family down to South Wales.”

If they both sign they should play some part in the Yeovil friendly Tuesday night with only the Parma friendly on Saturday left before the new season kicks off for Cardiff the following Sunday. With the least signings were will that leave the proposed signing of Dundee United striker David Goodwillie. Cardiff are rumoured to have had an offer excepted for the striker and are waiting on the outcome of a court involved the striker.

Then there is Craig Bellamy who is looking for a permanent move with his preferred destination, Cardiff City. His wages are putting the frighteners on clubs interested in signing him and the fact Manchester City want a £4 million-transfer fee. There are not many options left for the Welshman if he stays with the premiership club it will be a season in City’s reserves or a new club. With a season left on his contract, he is hoping Manchester City will do some kind of deal, pay-off his wages, and tearing up what is left of his contract allowing him to move on.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said,

"To be honest, I don't want to go on loan again because where would I go after that?"
"A permanent move would be the best option for me.
"If not, I expect to stay the whole year at City.
"I'll obviously do very little. I won't be involved with the manager and the first-team."

Maybe more signings Monday

Two in and all signed up for the upcoming season and possibility maybe two more on Monday, well one at least. The Cardiff City medical team are on standby for Monday with the arrival of out of contract former Middlesbrough defender Andrew Taylor who is heavily tip to have chosen to join the Bluebirds ahead of Bristol City or re-signing for Middlesbrough.

Because he is 24-years-old Middlesbrough are entitled to a compensation fee from the Welsh club because Taylor is a home-grown player. Taylor has talked of his sadness of moving on to pastures new but feels moving is best for his career, he said:

“It was my dream to play for Middlesbrough since I joined them when I was nine and it’s a hard thing to be leaving.

“I’ll miss it – I have a lot of friends here in the club.

“But, at this point of my career, it’s probably the time I should be moving on and experience something new in football and life.”

The Club and the fans will be hoping for a double signing with Dundee United striker David Goodwillie also deciding is future would be better served joining Cardiff. It is going to need a £2 million pound payment to prise him away from Dundee United all days ago they turned down a million pound off from Rangers.

The Dundee United manager Peter Houston has advised Goodwillie to move to the English league if the opportunity arises. He believes the players off the field problems with be better severed with a move across the border than a move to Rangers and the hotbed of Glasgow rivalry between them and Celtic. Houston said:

"If Rangers match any bids from somebody else, then it is up to David where he goes.

"That will be fine by me because ultimately it will be his decision.

"But, in my opinion, he should get out of the limelight and start afresh elsewhere.

"There is no doubt that out of all the clubs mentioned, Rangers are by far the biggest.

"But as someone who knows David well and has worked with him for five years, with all the troubles he's had off the field, he would be better going elsewhere.

"Is it in David's best interests to go into the goldfish bowl that is Glasgow? I don't think so.

"What I'm saying is not a criticism of Rangers and also not because I don't want him coming back to play against us."

Dundee Utd turn down bid for Goodwillie

Rangers made a bid for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie today only for it to be turned down. Not long after the news breaking there was a statement for United saying,

"We can confirm we have received a bid from Rangers for David Goodwillie.

"The bid has been rejected because it does not meet our valuation."

That the weekend Rangers owner Craig Whyte described the £2 million pounds price tag for Goodwillie as ‘too steep’. No figure has been mention, but must have been below the asking price wanted for the striker and will now lay a benchmark for Cardiff City if they are truly interested in signing him. Interested parties are going to have to match the asking price or better it if it turns into an auction.

Goodwillie took part in Dundee United second pre-season friendly in Ireland against Bohemian last night the game end all square at 1-1 a bit risky with a possible £2 million transfer on head.

Race for Goodwillie hots up

The battle for the signature of Dundee United striker David Goodwillie could hot up this week and hopefully a decision will be made will he sign for the Bluebirds or not. It looks like the main competition for the Scottish striker will come for the other side of the Bristol Channel with Championship rivals Bristol City along relegated Blackpool and Nottingham Forest. United manager Peter Houston said,

"Nothing has really changed as regards David's situation other than the chairman has been speaking to a couple of clubs.

"However, no agreement has been reached with anyone at the moment and he remains here with us."

Dundee United wants £2 million for their top goal scorer a figure that has scare off SPL club Rangers. Dundee turned down to offers on Friday one of which was rumoured to be from Cardiff it looks like it will take £2 million or more to prize him away from United. In the quest to sign him Cardiff have is teammate Craig Conway who recently signed for the Welsh also former Cardiff City player Willo Flood recommend the Bluebirds to him saying,

“If he does go to the Welsh club, then it would be an ideal place for him”

"If Cardiff agrees a fee for him he should seriously consider it. They are a great club with good staff and they will look after him."

Former Scotland star Pat Nevin believes Goodwillie would be a fine catch for Cardiff City boss Malky Mackey and said:

“Conway will be the appetiser, Goodwillie will be the main course.

“He really is a talent.

“He has a great eye for a goal. He will always score goals and makes them himself as well.

“There are one or two weaknesses to his game, which you always find with these very, very talented individuals.

“He’s not fast – he’s not lightning, however, he does make up for that with match-intelligence.”

Owing to Dundee United having a Europa League game in just over two weeks time they have started pre-season and kick-off with a 2-1 friendly victory at Drogheda United. Cardiff target Goodwillie scored one of the goals. The Cardiff City stadium and the training facilities at the Vale are far beyond any on offer from other interested party.

Have Cardiff up the chase for Goodwillie

Cardiff City had competition if they are in the race for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie as a source at the Scottish club as revealed two offers have come in for the striker yesterday. One of them is rumoured to be from Cardiff City, the SPL club turned it down.
A club spokesman told BBC Scotland:

"No-one has met our valuation yet, but that doesn't stop people putting offers in. We've had two today. It's ongoing."

Neither of the offers where made by Rangers who look to be price out of the race. The Rangers owner Craig Whyte believes £2 million is too high price for the striker. New Cardiff City boss Malky Mackey ready successfully raid Dundee United and snatched midfielder Craig Rangers from under the nose of Rangers who also want to sign him.

Dundee United have set a fee of £2 million for their player who signed one-year extension on his contract that will keep in Tannadice until 2013 back in March. They turn down two offers in January with failed to reach their asking price and are in no hurry to sell, but United manager Peter Houston would dearly love some extra funds to bolster his squad.

"I'm caught between a rock and a hard place with Goody," he told BBC Scotland.
"If he goes, it'll allow me to strengthen the team, but I'd be foolish to want rid of him. He scores between 15 and 20 goals a season.
"But we're a provincial club and, if somebody offers the right money for him, he'll be off.
"Rangers enquired about what his valuation was. The chairman told them what that is and I think Rangers felt it was a bit too much for them."

City chasing Goodwillie

Cardiff City are looking to add a new striker to their depleted strike force with Dundee United striker David Goodwillie rumoured to be the target. BBC Scotland is reporting a spokesman at the Scottish club saying after an initial enquiry Cardiff have now entered full discussions with a view to him signing with the club.

Rangers have also been interest in Goodwillie, but they have not willing to pay the £2 million asking price. The report suggests that Cardiff could have competition from a Premiership club and there is interest from Championship rivals of the Bluebirds. In January there were two offers made and were turned down for the striker after failing to reach their asking price.

The young Scottish international striker through youth levels with Scotland and made his full international cap last season. Could he be on is way to Cardiff will have to wait and see if comes off it will be Cardiff 2-0 Rangers.
