Is money the ultimate pain reliever?
A recent study found that cash and reminders of cash can reduce people's perception of both physical and emotional pain. The finding by marketing professor Kathleen Vohs from the University of Minnesota could have implications for health care and even business.
Imagine if airlines handed out cold, hard cash rather than vouchers for delayed flights. Vohs says her research suggests passengers would feel better. She's even considering testing the findings on the dating scene to see if handling cash could lessen the sting of social rejection.
