Tommi Makinen 500

brief history of one of the most famous competitions in world car racing.

Recognized by analysts as one of the most famous competitions in the world, the Indy 500 are also distinguished by its unique call, by the high average speed are achieved and rich prizes that distributes among its 33 participants.

The first edition of the legendary race was held in 1911 on a brick floor, which today remains a fringe-the famous "Brickyard" - as a tribute to those who a century ago assumed the challenge of programming a long-term mechanical event and a significant requirement for men and máquinas.La realization of that initial competition was almost by chance, on a stage that was built in 1909 and had its official baptism until two years later.

Originally, the organizers felt that in that pattern could develop a sort of chopped, with a massive turnout of fans, who would be able to place bets millonarias.Después have verified that the project did not work, we chose to pursue a different career all that were scheduled at that time: nothing less than a distance of 500 miles -804 miles-and a circuit that allowed their special characteristics to achieve very high speeds.

An American, Ray Harroun, driving a Marmon Wasp, which now occupies a privileged place in the Museum, and an approximate speed of 120 mph, was the first to inscribe his name in the history of winners the mythical competencia.Durante the early years, the Europeans staged the coup on several occasions. Two Frenchmen and a Briton celebrated at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the First World War forced to introduce a parenthesis two years on the run.

Following the resumption of the Indianapolis 500, the domain of the local drivers was overwhelming, and without any interruption, until the mid 60's, when he broke the hegemony of a fantastic driver named Jim Clark. "The Scottish Flying, "about a Lotus emerged from the inexhaustible capacity of the talented Colin Chapman, was returning to give a victory to the Europeans after half a century, breaking a tradition that had been set firmly in the history of the prueba.Clark was responsible for point the way for other foreign pilots followed suit after his feat, and Graham Hill the following year and others who did some time later, not only European but also American.

Among the members of this latter group, the Brazilians scored a strong presence at the time of traditional celebration with a bottle of milk. The first to do so was Emerson Fittipaldi, who then imitated his fellow Helio Castroneves and Gil de Ferran. Not be omitted from this review the names of Canadian Jacques Villeneuve and Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya.

The circuit is not a perfect oval. Its area is 2.5 miles (4,023 meters) and consists of two lines long (1,000 meters each), two short lines (200 meters each) and four curves (400 meters each) with nine degrees. Its width is just over 15 meters around the perimeter and connoisseurs often compared to a "giant race track." It's a scenario that has no escape routes in outer chord, so the impacts are common machine against the concrete wall, which functions as a retaining wall. Side crashes usually do not cause serious consequences for its protagonists, although collisions often result in serious injury.

addition, the design of the track, incidents often occur in chains, following of the few options offered by the design to overcome such situations carrera.Otro issue to be taken into account is the floor, since for high averages are reached, before any rain, and strictly for reasons of safety, activity pauses the track, or directly terminates the competition if the distance covered warrants that the organizers make that decision.

In 2010, Helio Castroneves, his fourth pole and if it is imposed is also his fourth victory. Thus, Spiderman would equal at the top of the legend AJ Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears. However, a large host of rivals, no less than 32, try to spoil the party the owner of the franchise 'Burger King' in Brazil. The most dangerous, no doubt, will Power, Dixon and Franchitti.

The "Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the largest enclosed world, with a total area of \u200b\u200b2,262,273 m2. So scared capacity: 375,000 tickets and seat between 60,000 and 100,000 more than grass. Everything on the legendary oval Indiana, home of the 500, the most famous race IndyCar championship, is superlative, as the impressive control tower inspired by Japanese architecture with over a thousand posts for the Press.

2010 also will down in history as the 500 with more female presence. No fewer than four: Ana Beatriz Caselato, Simona de Silvestro, Sarah Fisher and the one who led the race and the podium (he was third in 2009), the world famous Danica Patrick. And one more, Milka Duno, he was on the verge of qualifying.

The 500 miles are broadcast live in 212 countries, including Argentina, and last year saw 294 million people, thirty of them in the U.S..

Bru Refugees Return Home

Members of the Bru tribe have been staying in these refugee camps in Tripura after ethnic clashes forced them to flee from the state of Mizoram.

But now some of these families have begun returning to their homes.

[Elvis Chorkhy, President for Displaced People]:
“About 154 families from Naisingpara and Ashapara will start moving to Mizoram. This is the first day of repatriation of the new displaced persons who have been displaced after November 2009.”

One hundred more tribal refugee families will leave by May 26.

[Bonkhuma, Refugee]:
"Now the Mizoram government assured us security for our return, we were to go back on May 21st but could not. We are going now but more than 31,000 people are left behind and will go back home gradually. The Mizoram government has assured us of this."

Since 1997, around 32,000 Bru tribal refugees have taken shelter in six camps in North Tripura.

They’ve slowly made their return back home… but it came to a halt last November after a mob burned down 700 tribal houses, after an 18-year-old Bru was shot dead by unidentified gunmen.

Is money the ultimate pain reliever?

A recent study found that cash and reminders of cash can reduce people's perception of both physical and emotional pain. The finding by marketing professor Kathleen Vohs from the University of Minnesota could have implications for health care and even business.
Imagine if airlines handed out cold, hard cash rather than vouchers for delayed flights. Vohs says her research suggests passengers would feel better. She's even considering testing the findings on the dating scene to see if handling cash could lessen the sting of social rejection.

'Modern Family''s Julie Bowen Double Breastfeeds Twins

'Modern Family' mom Julie Bowen visited 'Lopez Tonight' Monday, where she told George Lopez all about how she nurses her twin boys, John and Gus, who just turned 1. Bowen, 40, said she lets the boys suckle at the same time and showed a picture (scroll down to see).
"It's like two little liposuction machines on you," she said. "They suck the fat out of you. They call it the 'double football hold.' You hold one here, and here [gesturing to her breasts], like two footballs... They're doing God's work right there, helping me return to my birth weight."
It looks like the twins are doing their job. Here are pictures of Bowen in a bikini in March.

Vulture Restaurants a Hit in Cambodia

When they're serving carcass of buffalo at the vulture restaurant in Siem Pang district, there's no shortage of lunchtime patrons. In Cambodia, the vultures are an endangered species, and conservationists have established a chain of eateries like this one, in the hope of bringing them back.

[Net Norin, Birdlife International in Indochina]:
"We preserve the vulture because they are near extinct in the world so we, the Birdlife International organization, are trying to preserve them by giving them dead cows or buffalos each month."

A lack of food is the principle reason for the vulture's decline in Cambodia. Uncontrolled hunting of wild animals is cited as one reason. Tighter controls by farmers over livestock that used to roam freely, is another. In India, the same vulture species have been decimated by the drug Diclofenac used to keep livestock healthy but toxic to vultures feeding on the carcasses.

The restaurant program in Cambodia, however, is showing positive results for the species as a whole.

[Pich Bunnat,Widlife Conservation Society]:
"Since we started our vulture preservation project in 2004 till now the numbers of vultures have increased. For example, we surveyed the whole country in 2004 and found 140 vultures. Then another survey in June 2009 found we had up to 286 vultures. So the numbers have increased and the villagers received a lot of knowledge about preserving the vulture because they see more and more tourists come to visit this area which they benefit from."

And raising awareness about the plight of the vulture may well be key to their long-term survival. In the meantime, there's nothing like a free lunch.

Lady Gaga, Springsteen, Elton John, Sting, Deborah Harry Sing Journey Song 'Don't Stop Believin''

It sounds more like a bizarre dream than reality, but concert-goers at Carnegie Hall can attest to the fact that it really happened.
On Thursday, Bruce Springsteen, Lady GaGa, Elton John, Sting, Blondie's Deborah Harry, and Shirley Bassey of James Bond fame, sang Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." The performance, a finale to the annual benefit for the Rainforest Fund drew wild applause.
The New York Times and The New York Daily News both reviewed the concert.
The New York Times Jon Pareles reports:

Sting said that Mr. Springsteen also chose the concert's all-star finale -- a song, Sting said, that he didn't know. "Everyone in the country knows it but you," he was told. It was Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' "
For The Daily News' Jim Farber, Elton John was the highlight:

John... stole the show. Taking a deep, and well-advised, breath, he dove into Madonna's "Material Girl" and "Like A Virgin" while a kick line of go-go boys in Speedos flitted around him with moves worthy of Cirque Du Soleil. Genius.
The Rainforest Fund was formed by organizations started by Trudie Styler and Sting and aims to spread awareness about the need for rainforest conservation.

Gold-Dispensing ATM Unveiled At Abu Dhabi Hotel

United Arab Emirates Abu Dhabi's top hotel is upping the ante in the race for Gulf glitz: adding a gold-dispensing machine.

The ATM-style kiosk in the Emirates Palace monitors the daily gold price and offers small bars up to 10 grams or coins with customized designs.

It's the idea of a German entrepreneur, Thomas Geissler, who began testing the cash-for-gold machines in his native country in 2009. The Abu Dhabi debut on Wednesday is billed as the first international foray for Geissler's "Gold to Go" brand.

Geissler says he picked Abu Dhabi because of its high-rolling atmosphere and the region's traditional ties to gold in commerce.

The unveiling was timed well. Gold hit a record high Wednesday of more than $1,245 an ounce.

A schoolteacher has been fired after she brutally attacked a 13-year-old pupil in front of a classroom full of students, according to US reports.
Shocking video footage appears to show Sheri Davis dragging, kicking and slapping sixth grader Isaiah Johnson after squaring up to him as he cowered in a corner.
The alleged beating is thought to have lasted almost a minute and was filmed on a mobile phone by another pupils before being posted on YouTube.

Officials at Jamie's House Charter School, a centre for children with disciplinary issues in Houston, Texas, are reportedly 'horrified'.
The 40-year-old teacher has been sacked and bosses have apologised to the youngster and his furious mother, Alesha Johnson.
Police have been called in to investigate amid public outcry, which came after the video was obtained by Ms Johnson and aired on Houston's Fox News channel.
Some children can be heard laughing on the tape as Isaiah struggles to defend himself against the teacher.
'I was on the wall like this trying to get away from her and she started hitting me, banging my head to the wall and kicking me,' Isaiah said.
'The teachers piled up and they were looking over each others shoulders just watching.'

Ms Johnson said her son had returned home with bruises on his face and a black eye that day.
'He said to me "Mum what would happen to a teacher that was beating on a kid?"' she said.
'I was like "why, what happened?" and he told me that a teacher jumped on him today.
'I immediately called the school to find out what was going on.
'After it happened, he had wanted to call me and they would not let him call me.'
Ms Johnson added: 'Most of the students had been taking a test and then they put them in an empty room.
'They were all dancing around, playing and they had music going and they were dancing.
'One of the girls told my son "Shut up, stop laughing at me or I'll punch you in the face".
'My son was jumping around saying "come on hit me then".
'The teacher saw him through the window and that's when she came in saying "You want to beat on little girls?" saying she should teach him a lesson.

'My son never touched the girl', she told Fox News. 'She just went in there straight after him.'
Teachers who attack are now being quizzed by school officials and could face disciplinary action.
Davis had reportedly worked at the school for three years and had no prior complaints against her.
Ms Johnson filed a complaint with Houston Police Department, but added that she was not satisfied with the school's response.
'The teacher who beat on my son has apologised,' she said.
'But I'm not satisfied. They (the school) have cameras in every room, they told me to come back in a couple of hours because they had to rewind the tapes to get back to that day.
'When they called me back they asked me to come to the school. I asked them if they saw what was going on in the classroom and they said that they couldn't see anything and they wanted me to come in. I never went.'
Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Fox News that an investigation was under way, although no charges have been filed.
A statement school Principal David Jones said: 'Now that officials at Jamie's House Charter School have been able to review the video on Fox News, we are horrified at the actions of the teacher.
'There is no excuse for a teacher to behave in this way with a child. Although we had already removed the teacher from the classroom and put her on administrative duty, we now plan to terminate the teacher and make an apology to the student and his mother.
'In addition, the school will investigate whether other teachers witnessed this terrible incident and did not come forward to report it. Those teachers could be facing disciplinary action, as well.
'Educators are entrusted by parents with their children every day and we have a responsibility to see that they are not only taught but treated with respect.
'This incident violates every principle by which we operate Jamie's House Charter School.'

The zeitgeist deception and how you're all being lied to.

The movie "zeitgeist" has proven to me that anyone with a computer can manipulate MILLIONS by telling nothing but conspiracy theories and bold faced, out right lies. I want everyone to watch zeitgeist ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHiuaGJ46zo ) Then look at this website http://conspiracyscience.com/articles/zeitgeist/ and tell me what you think. The reason I want you to do this is just so you can see how susceptible the general public is to straight up lies. If you look at both these things and want to make some other arguments about the truth behind zeitgeist feel free. I will take on anything you post to prove that every one of you members of the zeitgeist movement have had the veil pulled over your eyes.

Truck Drivers Held at Gunpoint While Vehicles Torched

In the Senapati region of India on Tuesday night, an armed gang of men allegedly set fire to trucks headed for Manipur.

Truck drivers say a group of men held them up at gunpoint and burned their vehicles.

The incidents took place in the vicinity of the Manipur-Nagaland border along a national highway.

[Linda Soro, Civil Officer, Zakhama]:
"Yes they (the trucks) have been burnt by miscreants. We still don't know who have done it. I don't know much as I was out of station. As far as I know five trucks have been burnt, fortunately we have not received any news of anybody being injured."

Some people suspect members of the Naga ethnic group are behind it, because it comes after authorities banned the Naga rebel leader from visiting Manipur—but there's no concrete evidence so far.

At a nearby village, ethnic Nagas had recently staged a protest demanding that their leader be allowed to make the trip.

[Kanga Regina, Resident, Maram Bazar Village]:
"We want him to visit his native place; we welcome him, because after 40 years working outside for the Nagas, we want him back. We want him to come and see his brothers, sisters, uncles and all his Naga people."

Security forces from Manipur are now escorting stranded interstate passenger buses and trucks through the area of unrest.

Faurlin wins the double as Rangers' lose to Newcastle.

So the last game of the season has hit us so quickly as we look back on what has been an eventful season to say the least. It was a game that had no real value but Rangers' had the chance to ruin Newcastle's championship parade.

The day started off with a text saying "pitch inspection at 10am" and just made you wonder if our famous drainage system was going to fail us once more, despite this we made our way to Loftus Road in hope that we would be able to reunite the gang for the last time this season. Despite there being a further inspection at 12 the game did go ahead and we all met up in the Blue and White bar before the game. Lofty, PK, Corp and Jenson were already enjoying a beer when Sam, Luke, Jack and myself met up with the gang for a giggle before making our way to our seats for the final time this season.

Two changes were made from the team that won at Barnsley last week. Lee Cook and Jay Simpson came in for youngsters Josh Parker and Antonio German.

Photobucket

Just before the game kicked off a minutes applause was held to celebrate the life of the clubs record appearance holder Tony Ingham after he passed away last week after battling an illness. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
The first half flew by with Rangers' enjoying the better of the possession and chances throughout. Newcastle looked as if they were going through the motions and were just playing the fixture out as there was nothing at stake.
One of the biggest cheers rung out from the gang on 22 minutes as California Hoop made an appearance and was given a standing ovation as he made his way to his seat. We thought he was trying to beat his record late appearance time of 37 minutes earlier in the season and was given a well deserved award just last Wednesday.
Half time came around with Rangers well in control and looking the better of the two sides and perhaps should've been at least a goal up after Simpson rushed an effort and passed it back to the Newcastle 'keeper after Faurlin had played a tasty 60 yard pass to pick out the Arsenal loanee.

The gang got together at half time and were more than happy with the 45 minutes that had passed and we certainly looked a lot better than the champions. Michael and Sophie joined us at interval as we all had a good giggle before having to make our way back to our seats. 3.50-4.05 on a Saturday afternoon will be very dull for the next few months and I'll look forward to when normal service resumes in August.

Photobucket

Me and Jenson managed to get back to our seats on time and witnessed Peter Ramage get sent off within a minute or so of the restart as he was the last man and took out Shola Ameobi when he was clean through on goal. As Ramage made his way back to the dressing room it was clear to see that the former Newcastle man was distraught at being sent off and looked to be close to tears.
Rangers continued to dominate proceedings despite the numberical disadvantage.
Tamas Priskin had a goal disallowed for offside before Rangers' counter attacked with Simpson. Rangers' top goalscorer ran through on goal and had two Rangers' players that he could've squared to and put us one up but instead he tried to steal the limelight and ended up losing the ball, allowing Newcastle to counter attack and when Joey Barton fed in sub Peter Lovenkrands before the latter dinked the ball over Cerny's head and gave the visitors a somewhat undeserved lead.
The ten men continued to battle and created more chances but once again taking those chances proved to be the achilles heel. Simpson had a glorious chance to level things up when he was one on one with Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal but failed to make the most of the opportunity.
Unfortunately the game stayed at 1-0 and Rangers' were once again left to rue missed chances and you would certainly think that this area will be looked at during the summer.

After we saw Newcastle celebrate with their fans and as they made their way off the pitch the Rangers' faithful gave the champions some applause for their efforts this season.
The Rangers' squad and management team then took to the field once more to do a lap of honour before Neil Warnock took the mic and shared his appreciation to the Rangers' supporters and left us in high sprits.

The gang then made their way to the pub to have an end of season beer (or three) and enjoyed a real good laugh, mainly at PK's expense (poor git), but it was a great way to end what has been a tough season with all that has happened at the club but now we can look forward to a summer of rebuilding and when we return for pre season in roughly two months time.

Lofty's Man of the Match has been awarded to Dusko Tosic after the left back had an absolute stormer of a game, looking solid in defence and also attacking the left wing and giving the Newcastle defenders a lot to worry about.

QPR: Cerny, Ramage, Leigertwood, Buzsaky, Gorkss, Cook (Parker 50), Faurlin, Simpson, Ephraim (Rose 77), Tosic, Priskin.

Subs: Putnins, Balanta, Brown, Oastler, German.

Red Cards: Ramage (46)

Newcastle United: Krul, Coloccini, Williamson, Barton, Guthrie (Vuckic 78), Routledge, Simpson, R. Taylor, Smith, Best (Lovenkrands 54), Ameobi (Carroll 78).

Subs: Harper, Nolan, Pancrate, Donaldson.

Goals: Lovenkrands (71)

Bookings: R. Taylor

Referee: Mr D Deadman

Attendance: 16, 819 (2980 Newcastle)

Later in the evening Alejandro Faurlin picked up an awards double at the Player of the Year dinner when he was voted as the Supporters Players of the Year and Players Player of the Year awards. Kaspers Gorkss was the runner up for the second year running.
Adel Taarabt picked up the Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season awards as he also picked up a double at the bash in Hammersmith.

Lastly I'd just like to thank everyone for their support this year as Lofty Heights has continued to grow more and more popular as the season has gone on. Myself and Lofty fully appreciate everything and we hope to see you return over the summer during the World Cup and then once again next year as we kick off the new season.
Thank you and enjoy the summer!
