Fire Torches Assam Emporium
The fire is believed to have started in the basement of the emporium.
It quickly spread throughout the building.
[A. K. Sharma, Fire Chief]:
"We controlled the fire and did not allow it to spread in the basement. There are around 20 to 22 fire brigade vehicles, which were delegated for the rescue operation. Our initial focus was to save the lives of the people and we made all efforts to rescue people trapped inside the building."
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The Assam Emporium is famous for selling handlooms and handicrafts from all over India.
