A Point Won or Two Lost? part II...

QPR 0-0 Watford

QPR's biggest home crowd of the season saw a hugely disappointing goalless draw against Watford in the final game of 2008.

Photobucket

I have to be honest, I expected to be writing this report with Rangers now sitting in the top six. After the win over Preston before Christmas, I was extremely hopeful of 6 points over the festive period and would certainly have taken 4. But to say I am disappointed to get just 2, following games against Watford and Charlton, is an understatement.More disappointment today, was that for the second home game running, there was no soup on sale in the kiosk in the lower loft!!

Photobucket

The first half particularly, was extremely poor and Watford had much the better of the chances. Heidar Helguson missed QPR's best chance of the half by heading wide from Lee Cook's free-kick.

Watford had to defend for much of the second half but were unlucky not to go ahead through Lee Williamson, who's free-kick from the edge of the area struck the post, then Cerny before going out for a corner on 82 minutes. Previous to that, Martin Rowlands' free-kick was headed back into the danger area by Helguson and an unmarked Blackstock was unable rise high enough to add the finishing touch.

Rangers had a soft appeal for a penalty waved away after Agyemang went down in the area under a challenge from Lloyd Doyley and almost went ahead when a goalmouth scramble ended with Helguson's close-range shot being pushed away by Loach and from the resulting corner by Rowlands, Blackstock headed over.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon (Leigertwood 84), Hall, Agyemang, Rowlands, Ramage, Cook (Blackstock 46), Ephraim, Helguson. Subs: Connolly, Ledesma, Alberti.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Patrick Agyemang

In summary, this was disappointing, both in result and performance but in saying that, credit to Watford who came and had a go, hassled Rangers, worked very hard and were deserving of their point. With plenty of rumours starting, it remains to be seen just what business QPR will do, if any, in the January transfer window.

Before I close, I managed to scoop another exclusive LH interview, this time with PK's favourite player, Lee Cook as he was leaving the stadium and discussed his impending permanant transfer back to Loftus Road.

Lofty - Hi Lee, Happy New Year

LC - Hi mate, thanks

Lofty - so, are you signing, has your deal been done yet?

LC - not yet, next week

Our thanks go to Lee Cook for his time in conducting this interview...

And finally...

As this is the last match report in 2008, I would to sincerely thank you all, so much, for your continued support of these pages and wish every single one of you, A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS 2009!!!

Come on You R'sssssssssss!!

A Point Won or Two Lost??

Charlton 2-2 QPR

Struggling Charlton twice came back from behind to deny QPR, at an extremely cold Valley on Boxing Day.

Photobucket

The tradition of the Boxing Day fixture, which was a lot kinder to us than the trip to Plymouth last season, brought a full car load as Corp and California Hoop joined myself and PK, with the Henley contingent following us in from South Mimms as we made the relatively easy trip to the Valley. With food and alcohol indulgence the day before, the mood was a little subdued than the norm, but certainly cheerful enough as we decided to walk straight past the pub and onto the chip shop instead.

Onto the game and with Charlton 14 games without a win, I am sure I wasn't alone in amongst the healthy R's support in absolutely dreading this game! With two games in two days, the team was much changed and initial fears were starting to drift away as the R's dominated the first half and were deservedly ahead on 17 minutes, as Lee Cook gave PK a belated Xmas pressie, curling a superb free kick into the top corner.

Photobucket

QPR were made to pay for not putting this game to bed in the first half, when Charlton equalised just three minutes into the second half when Nicky Bailey headed home from the impressive, Lloyd Sam's cross. Charlton had a decent little spell after the goal, but slightly against the run of play, the R's went back in front on 68 minutes - Leigertwood headed a pass to Blackstock who coolly slotted the ball past Elliot for his 11th of the season.

Photobucket

With ten minutes remaining, Charlton were level once again when Radek Cerny could only punch out a Martin Cranie cross and Bailey headed the ball into the net for his second goal of the afternoon. Lloyd Sam had a great chance to clinch the points for Charlton late on, but Rangers themselves were denied three points in stoppage time - Helguson struck the foot of the post, with the rebound falling kindly for Ledesma, who smashed home what was seemingly the winner - only for referee Taylor to adjudge that Blackstock had committed a foul and the wild celebrations in the away end came to an abrupt halt.

QPR: Cerny, Hall, Leigertwood, Blackstock, Gorkss, Rowlands, Ramage, Connolly, Cook (Ledesma 67), Alberti (Ephraim 59), Di Carmine (Helguson 81). Subs: Mahon, Agyemang

Lofty's Man of the Match - Kaspars Gorkss

Although an entertaining game, I came away from the Valley very disappointed that the R's had dropped two points, especially after dominating the first half and sitting back somewhat in the second. Would love to have another look at Ledesma's disallowed goal as I didn't see an awful lot wrong with it at the time. But I guess as many times as I do look at it, it won't change the result so a point it is. There will probably be wholesale changes in the R's line up again for Sunday's clash with Watford as Rangers will be looking to get a decent return from the Christmas games.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas!!

QPR Reap The Rewards as Sousa Gambles...

QPR 3-2 Preston

Dexter Blackstock came off the bench to score a superb late winner, in what was a very entertaining afternoon at Loftus Road.

Photobucket

Before I go on, my apologies for the lateness of this report, but straight after the game, myself and the gang celebrated the victory by going into Shepherds Bush for a few Christmas drinks and if the way my head feels this morning is anything to go by, a very good time was had by all.

Onto the game and Rangers started extremely well and it was no surprise when we took the lead on 16 minutes. Lee Cook's inch perfect cross from the left flank was met by Helguson's head at the far post, who cleverly nodded into the left corner, giving Lonergan no chance.

Photobucket

After dominating the early stages, Rangers were pegged back on 28 minutes and some bad defending let Mckenna cross to find Sedgewick in space to head past Cerny in the R's goal. But just five minutes later, the R's were back in front - former Preston man, Agyemang headed Martin Rowlands' corner back across goal where Cook and Helguson were the first to react and from three yards out, the pair managed to bundle the ball into the net, though the goal was attributed to Helguson.

Onto the second half and why do the Championship have to suffer when a Premier League referee has a bad game and is hence demoted for a week? Alan Wiley went on to stamp his mark on the second half with a quite awful display of refereeing, which included an diabolical penalty award to Preston on the hour - when Wiley deemed that Cerny had felled Sean St Ledger in the area, much to the disgust of the home supporters. At the time, I was personally undecided, but as I have mentioned before, player reaction speaks volumes. Neither St Ledger, or any of the Preston players appealed for it, their fans in the upper School End didn't appeal for it and the R's players looked completely gobsmacked as they surrounded the referee. But, given it was and Davidson brought the two sides level.

Paulo Sousa then went for it and changed the formation to a 3-4-3 with Blackstock and Hall coming on in place of Delaney and Ramage. Alan Wiley again angered the R's supporters when he waved away a penalty appeal as Blackstock was sent flying in the 6 yard box. But when the game was looking like it was heading for a draw, Cook was awarded a free-kick on the left and Rowlands cross was nodded powerfully into the net by Blackstock for his 10th goal of the season.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney (Hall 81), Stewart, Mahon (Leigertwood 62), Agyemang, Gorkss, Rowlands, Ramage (Blackstock 81), Cook, Ephraim, Helguson. Subs: Ledesma, Di Carmine.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Lee Cook

Photobucket

We needed to win this one to keep in touch with the play off pack and we did just that! Huge amount of credit goes to Paulo Sousa. He took a massive risk and got a massive reward. After losing the lead twice to a strong, physical side, how many previous Managers would have thrown on a defender and gone to a 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 in an effort to hold on to the point? Sousa went for the three points and they duly arrived.

On a negative note, there was no soup available for today's game, but the lady has assured me it will return for the Watford game on the 28th.

After the game, we were fortunate to catch Heidar Helguson for a Lofty Heights exclusive interview as he, along with most of the team, made a brief appearance at the LSA Childrens Christmas Party at the Spingbok.

Lofty - good game today, Heidar.

HH - Thank you

Lofty - will you be signing for us in January?

HH - yes, hopefully

Our thanks go to Heidar Helguson for his time in conducting this interview...

Moving on to Charlton away on Boxing Day and a fixture I am now dreading. After yesterday, Charlton are now fourteen games without a win and you know what that normally would mean?? We shall see...

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!!!

Parejo Returns to Real Madrid...

Daniel Parejo's loan at QPR has ended after Real Madrid recalled him to help with an injury crisis.

Parejo played 18 games in all for QPR and I was slightly surprised to see the following on the BBC Website;

'Parejo played 18 games for QPR during an impressive spell at the London club.' ??!!??

I have made no secret on these pages that I am not his biggest fan and certainly, Christmas has come early for me. However, I do actually think there is indeed a quality player in Daniel Parejo and I wish him well.

QPR in Away Goal Shock...

Plymouth 1-1 QPR

It's finally happened!! After more than 13 hours without one, QPR finally ended their away goal drought with Heider Helguson hitting the back of the net and giving the R's the lead after 16 minutes at Home Park.

Photobucket

Well, I'm truly ashamed to say that I also missed this one too. With PK stocking up for Christmas on a booze run across to France and a distinct lack of interest from anywhere else, I didn't fancy the long and cold journey alone. So, instead my boss used it as an opportunity to drag me into work and thankfully, I will not be boring you with the life and times of an alarm engineer on these pages. With the above in mind, HUGE respect and acknowledgement goes to the 657 R's fans who did travel to Home Park today despite many, many problems on the rail and road!

I did however, manage to catch some of the commentary on QPR World and much was discussed with regards to Martin Rowlands disallowed goal, which it seemed, was wrongly chalked off for offide!? As time went on, it looked as though the R's would hold on for three valuable and most welcome away points, but on 83 minutes, substitute Steven MacLean levelled the scores.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon, Leigertwood, Agyemang (Blackstock, 76), Gorkss, Rowlands, Ramage (Hall, 81), Cook (Ephraim, 68), Helguson. Subs: Cole, Tommasi.

View From The North...

Leeds based R's fan, Paul Dennison has been kind enough to send me a brief summary of last nights game, so I thought I would share seeing as I was not in attendance myself. Thanks Paul...

Last night – very disappointing, played well until penalty miss, up to the Rowly was outstanding and his penalty was a good one, although straight down the middle, but Lee Grant made an excellent , if lucky save. Helguson missed another very easy chance after about 10 minutes and was invisible all match (although I thought he did play well on sat) – My ratings would be:

Cerny – solid, but maybe at fault for the goal

Ramage – worked hard, his run and cross led to the pen

Delaney – struggling big time (although I thought he did play a bit better than usual on Sat)

Mahon – held things together

Stewart – solid

Gorkss – good

Leigertwood – ineffective

Rowly – excellent until penalty miss – faded away

Agyemang – excellent – caused problems all night, let himself down though in front of goal

Helguson(?) – totally invisible

Ephraim – worked hard, caused problems

Subs

Hall – came on in 91st minute as a striker!

Cook – involved a lot in his 20 mins

De Carmine - -on with 10 mins to go, did well – why is he always brought on when its too late!!

Overall – missed chances galore, now nearly 12 hours without an away goal – seems to be getting to the players

Atmosphere – almost non existent

Freezing Cold!!!!

Value for money 3/10

Summary – different Manager, same s@@t!!!!

And So It Continues...

Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 QPR

Following Saturday's excellent win over League Leaders, Wolves, QPR crashed to a disappointing defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday. Leon Clarke snatched the Owls winner as the Hillsborough side staged a late smash-and-grab raid after keeper Lee Grant had kept QPR at bay with a string of stunning saves, as the R's away goal drought sadly continues...

Photobucket

Well, work committments, Christmas coming and no annual leave left etc, meant I had to sit this one out as the age of the ludicrous midweek away trips for football fans continue. So, it was a nervous evening with the commentary and Sky Sports news planned and despite hearing of the R's creating plenty of chances, the 700 plus minute, 8 away game goal drought would surely come to an end as QPR were awarded a penalty after a foul on Henderson. Saturday's goal hero, Martin Rowlands stepped up...

Photobucket

...but he smashed his spot-kick straight at Grant in the Wednesday goal, much to the delight of the home crowd.

The inevitable happened on 75 minutes and as described by the Official QPR Website - When Watson's cross was only headed upward by Gorkss, the resultant scramble saw Small's snapshot saved by Cerny, only for Clarke to tap home the rebound to put the Owls ahead.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney (Hall 87), Stewart, Mahon (Di Carmine 78), Leigertwood, Agyemang, Gorkss, Rowlands, Ramage, Ephraim(Cook 53), Helguson. Subs: Cole, Tommasi.

QPR Keep The Wolves From The Door...

QPR 1-0 Wolves

A stunning 20-yard strike from Martin Rowlands earned QPR a much deserved victory over Championship leaders Wolves.

Photobucket

It seems hard to believe that just 2 weeks ago, I was writing about a diabolical R's showing away at Watford - and now, three games and seven points later - and writing about an awesome performance against the runaway league leaders. It just shows what a funny old game football can be.

Well, with the game being selected as the evening kick off by Sky, it meant a late start to the proceedings and what with Wolves being unbeaten in their last nine games, there seemed little confidence around the ground. However, the top teams coming to Loftus Road often brings the best out of the R's and it was most certainly the case today.

Rangers had much the better of the first half and could and maybe, should have been three up at the break. Blackstock, Helguson and Agyemang all had good chances. Despite going close when David Jones curled narrowly wide from a cleverly-worked free-kick, Wolves were fortunate to reach the interval on level terms.

Onto the second half and Wolves again relied on Hennessy to prevent them falling behind just after the break when he blocked Helguson's shot with his legs, just after the break. The visitors then started to come into the game, but found Radek Cerny in superb form once again in the R's goal, saving well from Jones and Ebanks-Blake. But just past the hour, Loftus Road erupted as Rangers went ahead - when Rowlands scored with a stunning 20-yard effort that flew over Hennessy before dipping into the net.

As you would have expected from a team at the top of the league, Wolves then came at Rangers and Cerny had to produce two more world class saves, both from Sam Vokes efforts. Rangers defended suprebly as the clock ticked down, but nearly made the game safe in stoppage time when Samuel Di Carmine shot narrowly wide as Rangers caught Wolves on the break.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon, Blackstock (Cook 27) (Di Carmine 89), Agyemang, Gorkss, Rowlands, Ramage, Ephraim, Helguson (Tommasi 77). Subs: Cole, Borrowdale

Lofty's Man of the Match - so many contenders for this one and it's hard to fault any of the players after that performance. Agyemang, Helguson and Rowlands were excellent and there were awesome performances from Cerny, Stewart and Gorkss. Hard to call a man of the match from the last three, but Kaspars Gorkss JUST shades it for me!

There really isn't much more I can add to this. It was an awesome performance from QPR and one of the best, if not THE best of the season so far and Watford now seems a million miles away. I am also happy that the Sky audience got to see it too.

And finally, the Soup Watch. As mentioned in the Charlton report, the soup sold at the bagel bar in the Lower Loft was simply, superb! - as it didn't let us down again today with myself and PK sampling the excellent Minestrone at half time. On the subject of the catering, Corp has insisted that I mentioned the Swordfish pasta that was served in the QPR Restaurant today - and yes, he was in Corporate Hospitality again!!! ;o)

QPR Draw Burnley in FA Cup...

QPR have been drawn at home against fellow Championship side, Burnley in the F.A. Cup Third Round.

I guess we all had our personal choices of who we wanted and where - personally I fancied Arsenal or Man City away. But, if I am honest and with respect of course, I am slightly disappointed with this one. However, we are at home so it can't be all bad.

The tie will be played during the weekend commencing Saturday 3rd January 2009.

Away Drought Continues, But R's Clip the Eagles Wings...

Crystal Palace 0-0 QPR

QPR continue to struggle in front of goal on their travels, but gained a creditable point with a battling performance at Selhurst Park.

Photobucket

Well, before I go on with the report and make my comments on what an encouraging, hard fought display this was from the R's, I am still wondering just how Heidar Helguson managed to miss an open goal from 16 yards out?!? I also am still finding it quite hard to accept, that I actually thought that referee Rob Styles had a very decent game!! - there, I have said it!

Despite being a London Derby, Palace away is one of my least favourite fixtures, mainly because despite being just across the river, we can get too and from a great deal more away games outside of London a lot quicker and I eventually arrived back at Lofty Towers just before 8pm. The over zealous stewarding outside the away end hardly made us feel welcome on our arrival either.

Anyway, onto the game and after an even first half, Heidar Helguson came off the bench in place of the yet again, inneffective Daniel Parejo, to make his R's debut and it was almost a dream start for the striker. With keeper Speroni advancing to clear, Agyemang managed to poke the ball into Helguson's path with the keeper stranded. But with his first touch of the ball since coming on, the Icelander somehow managed to sidefoot the ball wide with the goal gaping! Both sides had decent spells of possession, but Palace nearly broke Rangers hearts in stoppage time, but a superb save from Radek Cerny denied Craig Beattie.

Photobucket

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon, Leigertwood, Parejo (Helguson 46), Blackstock (Rowlands 57), Agyemang (Di Carmine 90), Gorkss, Ramage, Ephraim Subs: Cole, Borrowdale.

Photobucket

Lofty's Man of the Match - Kaspers Gorkss - an awesome performance at the back for QPR!

In summary, this was a decent point and a decent hard working performance from the R's and a million miles away from the shambles at Vicarage Road last week. Some decent performances throught, namely Gorkss, Cerny, Liegertwood, Ephraim, Agyemang and despite the miss, Helguson. Once again, forgettable from Parejo, which brings me onto a comment heard from a young lad sitting behind me, about 6 years old I would think, saying to his Dad - 'why don't we send him back to Spain?' - The Wisdom of Children!

Rangers face runaway leaders Wolves at LR next week, live on Sky, but before that is the F.A.Cup Third Round Draw. A big away day or a decent cup run? Can't quite decide, we shall see...

Welcome Heidar Helguson Part II...

Following all the confusion and rumours last week, QPR have today announced the loan signing of Bolton striker, Heider Helguson on an initial one month deal.

The 31 year old will go into Paulo Sousa's squad to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

GOOD LUCK AGAIN HEIDAR and WELCOME TO QPR!!!

Welcome Gary Borrowdale...

QPR have today confirmed the loan signing of Coventry City left back Gary Borrowdale.

The 23 year-old has signed a deal until the 31st December 2008, and is in strong contention to make his R's debut against former Club, Crystal Palace, on Saturday.

GOOD LUCK GARY and WELCOME to QPR!!

Blackstock and Two Smokin Barrels...

QPR 2-1 Charlton

QPR got back to winning ways as a brace from Dexter Blackstock secured a 2-1 win over Charlton at a very cold Loftus Road last night - The match was dedicated to the memory of Kiyan Prince and The Kiyan Prince Foundation - Kiyan would have been celebrating his 18th birthday. Prince, a former QPR player, was tragically stabbed to death at the age of 15 following an altercation with another student outside the gates of the London Academy in Edgware in May 2006.

Photobucket

Following the debacle at Watford at the weekend, the mood was somewhat downbeat and subdued around Loftus Road before kick off. There were only probably two positive people amongst the gang before kick off, one who was Glenn, a Spurs fan and guest for the night - why he would want to come and watch QPR with the upturn in fortunes at White Hart Lane, surprised everyone - and Corp, of who we met briefly before the game who had enjoyed more Corporate Hospitality. He had great pleasure in describing his excellent meal after we had just paid a visit to the fish shop. PK unfortunately, got home from work too late too attend and listened in the warmth of his home.

Onto the game and after the presentation of Paulo Sousa to the home supporters, it took a while to get going, but on 17 minutes, Damiano Tomassi fired in a low cross from the left which found Blackstock unmarked seven yards out, the striker made no mistake to claim his eighth goal of the season. If the Charlton defending was bad enough for the goal, the R's more than made up for it on 30 minutes when Therry Racon arrived unmarked to slide home Hameur Bouazza's fiercely driven cross.

The second half was a more lively affair and Sousa had introduced Patrick Agyemang in place of Di Carmine, but it was Charlton who made the more encouraging start. Rangers had decent 20 minutes spell but it was Charlton who were looking the more likely in front of goal and nearly snatched the lead with 15 minutes remaining when skipper Mark Hudson glanced debutant Keith Gillespie's cross narrowly wide. But this miss was to prove costly, as moments later QPR broke up the other end and Hogan Ephraim crossed for Blackstock, who steered a fantastic header into the top corner. Blackstock should have had his hat trick as minutes later, Ephraim's pin-point cross picked out Blackstock, but this time he could only head the ball agonisingly wide.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Leigertwood, Parejo (Ledesma 73), Blackstock, Gorkss, Ramage, Tommasi (Mahon 61), Di Carmine (Agyemang 46), Ephraim. Subs: Cole, Oastler.

Lofty's Man of the Match - despite two good goals and an very hard working performance from Blackstock, the award goes to Patrick Agyemang who made a massive impact up front when he came on for the second half.

Well, in summary, this was not the best performance by any means but it was a massive improvement on the disgrace at Watford and you have to say, that a win is a win and it was three very welcome points. Let's not forget that we were also without Fitz Hall, Lee Cook, Martin Rowlands, Matt Connolly and long term absentees, Akos Buszaky and Rowan Vine. Personally, I was very disappointed AGAIN, with Daniel Parejo, who's theatrics were not only annoying last night, but extremely unconvincing. There is a great player in there somewhere, let's just hope we get to see it soon.

And finally, for those who sit in the Loftus Road Stand, I can highly recommend the soup sold at the bagel bar, which used to be the Ladbrokes booth in the Lower Loft - SUPERB!! - and definitely just the job on a very cold night!

QPR Project Well and Truly Stung by Hornets...

Watford 3-0 QPR 'Project'

I am ashamed to say, that Watford easily brushed aside a disjointed and disinterested QPR at Vicarage Road in Paulo Sousa's first game in charge.

Photobucket

What with the developments at Loftus Road this week, the mood was extremely upbeat and the much mentioned, new manager syndrome, would surely come into effect with the players going all out to impress their new boss. Sadly, someone forgot to tell QPR this and after the much publicised Paulo Sousa interviews this week, where he has been demanding hard work, ambition and loyalty, else they have no part in this 'project' - there must be a good few QPR players who will be fearing for their jobs after this performance.

After reading the various reports since I have been home, the Official QPR site have obviously tried to sugar coat this defeat a bit by stating that Sousa watched from the stands today and left managerial duties to Gareth Ainsworth, seeing as though he has only been here for 2 days. What it doesn't do is make this any better as today's performance was totally unnacceptable and our worst of the season by a long way.

Tommy Smith set the home side on their way from the penalty spot in the 26th minute after he was adjudged to have been barged in the back by Mikele Liegertwood. It looked a soft penalty, it was a soft penalty and extremely harsh of the referee to award. In fairness, the Watford players didn't appeal for it and everyone in the stadium seemed genuinely stunned when it was awarded.

Photobucket

If that wasn't bad enough, the Rangers backline were at fault for Watford's second eight minutes later. Lee Williamson's fine 25-yard free-kick rebounded off the post, but their failure to react to the loose ball allowed Jon Harley to cross the ball back in for Darren Ward to score. On the stroke of half time, the game was over, as Smith robbed Leigertwood in the left back area and pulled the ball back for Williamson to fire a shot that creot under Radek Cerny.

At this point, I nearly went home and I certainly would not have been alone as many disgusted R's fans made for the exit. But I was talked into staying by PK and also, the hope that Rangers would come out and give it a real go as there was nothing to lose. This would be the case, surely...

It didn't happen and I have to be honest, if I were a Watford fan, I would be very disappointed that my team didn't get 5 or 6 today. To make matters worse, Fitz Hall was given a straight red card with 10 minutes to go. I am afraid I cannot offer any comment regarding this as I had long left the stadium by this time. I cannot remember the last time I had left before the end of a QPR game and also, when I had readily joined in with a chorus of 'what a load of rubbish', but that I did and I don't regret doing so.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon (Tommasi 46), Hall, Leigertwood, Blackstock (Di Carmine 63), Agyemang, Ramage, Ledesma (Parejo 53), Ephraim. Subs: Cole, Gorkss.

Lofty's Man of the Match - you are seriously, having a laugh!! N/A

I must admit, that when I first heard this midweek, it went over my head somewhat. But to continually hear Queens Park Rangers referred to as a 'project' rather than a Football Club by the owners and now, the Management, is great cause for concern - as was vented loudly by the R's following at Vicarage Road today. But what concerns me more, is that this performance 'could' be the players protesting at an absolute joke that Flavio Briatore is turning our Club into...

That folks, is all for now...

Welcome Heidar Helguson...

QPR have today announced the loan signing of Bolton striker, Heider Helguson on an initial two month deal.

The 31 year old will go straight into Paulo Sousa's first squad to face one of his former clubs, Watford on Saturday. Helguson, who has made over 40 International appearances for Iceland, scored the only goal of the game for his country against Malta last night.

GOOD LUCK HEIDAR and WELCOME TO QPR!!!

Welcome Paulo Sousa...

QPR have today named former Portugal midfielder Paulo Sousa as their new first-team coach.

Sousa, who was assistant coach to Luis Felipe Scolari with the Portuguese national team, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract. The 38-year-old played 51 times for his country and had spells with Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Juventus, Inter Milan, Parma and Borussia Dortmund.

Sousa told QPR's website:
"It is an honour to be part of this project.

"I have always wanted to work for a big club and I am very excited about the opportunity to work for Queens Park Rangers.

"I have great belief in my ideas and my coaching ability and I firmly believe I can achieve the objectives set by the management.

"I believe in playing positive, attacking football and am looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead."

Gareth Ainsworth, who had been in caretaker charge, will stay on as part of Sousa's backroom team.

Sousa has never managed a senior team at any level, let alone in England, and his appointment while high profile represents a significant risk for QPR. Let's hope the owners will at the very least, give him a chance...

WELCOME AND GOOD LUCK PAULO!!!

No Cup Hangover for the Clarets as QPR Crash and Burn...

QPR 1-2 Burnley

Burnley came from behind to win 2-1 at Loftus Road, Dexter Blackstock had opened the scoring for the R's on 14 minutes. Both sides were fresh from their midweek Carling Cup expolits, but there was no cup hangover for the Clarets who in truth, deserved their victory.

Photobucket

Maybe people were still recovering from their trips to Old Trafford midweek, but it all seemed a bit subdued around the ground before kick off. The news also that Akos Buzsaky will miss the rest of the season would have also contributed to that somewhat, I'm sure.

Onto the game and Rangers started superbly and went ahead on 13 minutes, when Dexter Blackstock collected Lee Cook's pass and fired into the bottom corner of the net from ten yards. Blackstock then had a header from Hogan Ephraim's corner tipped over by keeperJensen, who also saved a long-range shot from Martin Rowlands. Cook fired over with a sweet volley as the R's continued to dominate, but Burnley equalised against the run of play on 34 minutes - Gudjonsson's pass found Robbie Blake unmarked and was given time and space to shoot into the top corner past Radek Cerny and from there on in, Rangers lost their way.

Burnley continued to put Rangers under pressure in the second half but Rangers responded and had strong appeals for a penalty waved away after Blackstock was brought down by former QPR defender Clarke Carlisle. But on 59 minutes, Burnley were ahead as Mahon smashed home from the edge of the penalty area when Blake's cross was poorly cleared by Fitz Hall.

You could tell it just wasn't going to be Rangers day, when referee, waved away what looked like another stonewall penalty as Blackstock was again brought down, this one looked even more convincing than the first.

QPR: Cerny, Stewart, Hall, Blackstock, Rowlands, Ramage, Connolly (Delaney 46), Cook, Tommasi (Mahon 52), Di Carmine, Ephraim (Agyemang 62). Subs: Cole, Agyemang, Ledesma.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Radek Cerny

Well, another disappointing result and dare I say, performance, but take nothing away from Burnley who are on a great run and in my opinion, are the best side I have seen at Loftus Road this season. But as the weeks go by, Rangers lack of firepower becomes more and more of an issue and the decision this week to let Angelo Balanta and Romone Rose go out on loan, is just baffling? I only hope that there is something in the pipeline to back these decisions up?

I will finish today with yet again, referees being in the news in the past week for various reasons and the 'respect' campaign that is being forced down our throats more and more. But how on earth, are you supposed to respect officials like Stuart Attwell and the complete fool we had today??? I ask you?

United We Fall as QPR Pay the Penalty...

Manchester United 1-0 QPR

Despite a battling performance, QPR went out of the Carling Cup as a 73rd minute penalty from Carlos Tevez was enough to see United through.

Photobucket

Before I go on, may I just apologise for the lateness of this report. But those who travelled by road to and from Manchester, will know that someone, somewhere, in their wisdom, decided to close a great chunk of the M6 for roadworks! Did they not realise there was a football match on and the majority of fans will be heading back south after the game - sorry, couldn't resist that one! Anyway, it meant that I didn't arrive back here at Lofty Towers until almost 5am. But in saying that, myself, PK and then Henley contingent had great fun in the car, assisted by a wonderful ipod playlist of 'cheese' compiled by Lee. But the tiredness was already creeping in at this time, with PK spotting former R's Chairman, Gino Paladooni also sitting in the traffic ;o) - a thought also goes out to our illustrious driver, after the late finish, PK more or less got home, got changed and went straight out to work, sleepless!

Photobucket

Previously, the journey up wasn't at all bad and we arrived in plenty of time to park, have something to eat and then take it what is an awesome, Old Trafford - a ground that I have always loved coming too as it is just full of history. But, seeing as I had taken a day off, I had a brief visit to the gym in the morning, but really needn't have bothered, as the umpteen flights of stairs leading up to our seats in the away section, would have tested even the most fittest of people!

Onto the game and I really didn't think for one minute I would be sitting here at any point, disappointed in defeat at the home of the Premier League and European Champions. But to go out to what some say was a dubious penalty, was harsh. I have seen the replay and in truth, am still undecided, but Man United are always going to get these decisions, especially in front of the Stretford End.

Photobucket

The other disappointment being, was that we really had a go at United after that, looked dangerous and with any luck, could have got something out of the game. Rangers substitute Samuel Di Carmine did have the ball in the net and sent the 7,000 R's fans into raptures with minutes remaining, but sadly, it was chalked off for offside.

Photobucket

Rangers could and perhaps, should have equalised deep into injury time - Emmanuel Ledesma shooting narrowly wide from 12 yards when well placed to leave United breathing a sigh of relief.

QPR: Cerny, Stewart, Mahon, Hall, Parejo (Ledesma 46), Blackstock, Buzsaky (Agyemang 37), Rowlands, Ramage, Connolly, Cook (Di Carmine 78). Subs: Cole, Delaney, Gorkss, Ephraim.

Lofty's Man of the Match - awesome performances from Hall, Stewart, Mahon and Rowlands, but there is no doubt this award goes to R's keeper, Radek Cerny for an almost perfect display of goalkeeping.

In summary, despite dominating, a penalty was probably the only way United were going to score. Defensively, QPR were outstanding, with, as mentioned, superb performances from Hall and Stewart and likewise, Rowlands and Mahon in midfield. Sadly, it was what is becoming the same old story at the other end and until the last ten minutes, we offered very little threat.

However, there was plenty to be proud off and on other day, the Ledesma shot sneaks into the corner and we would go into extra time. With the game Cerny had, United certainly would not have fancied the penalties!

Finally, we couldn't leave Old Trafford without having a look around the Manchester United Megastore and much fun was had by all, before we set off on our unexpected marathon journey...

Come on You R'sssss!!!

Gavin The Main Ma'ho'n as QPR Beat Cardiff...

QPR 1-0 Cardiff

A goal from substitute, Gavin Mahon ten minutes from time, gave the R's victory over previosly undeafeted on their travels, Cardiff, who ended the game with just nine men.

Photobucket

Sadly, as always when Cardiff come to town, the police were out in force which may have made it uncomfortable for some outside the stadium, but the pre match entertainment today came at the Springbok pub where a certain purchase of mine at Ipswich last week, was yet again a topic of conversation. With that, also came some, let's just say, healthy banter exhanged between supporters as an escorted group of Cardiff fans were marched past the pub at about 2.30.

Moving onto the game and during an easily forgettable first half, Darren Purse was given a straight red card for a quite awful challenge on Lee Cook. Before then, in truth, Cardiff were having slightly the better of things and Rangers rarely threatened, as was the case for the remainder of the half.

Onto the second, Rangers were still struggling to make the extra man count, until some inspired substitutions from Gareth Ainsworth, swung the game in Rangers favour with Buzsaky, Mahon and Agyemang all joining the game. Buzsaky had a 30-yard drive pushed away by Cardiff keeper Tom Heaton and Cardiff looked like securing a deserved draw when Agyemang, although offside, fired the rebound wide.

But on 80 minutes, the R's finally made the breakthrough when Peter Ramage delivered a superb cross from the right for Gavin Mahon, who rose to head home superbly.Things got worse for Cardiff three minutes from time, when the annoying Comminges received his second booking in as many minutes for dissent, and was given his marching orders. But despite being down to nine men, Cerny produced a last-gasp save to keep out Roger Johnson's header in stoppage time.

QPR: Cerny, Stewart, Hall, Blackstock, Rowlands, Ramage, Connolly, Cook, Tommasi (Mahon 67), Ledesma (Buzsaky 55), Di Carmine (Agyemang 71). Subs: Cole, Delaney.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Matthew Connolly. Credit also to Peter Ramage who had his best game in a QPR shirt to date.

In summary, this was by no means the best game in the world, but a great result for QPR and indeed, Gareth Ainsworth. As mentioned, Cardiff were unbeaten away from home until today and next week, we have another home game against another top six side, as Burnley visit Loftus Road. But in between, we have the small matter of Manchester United away in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night!

Come on You R'sssssssssss!!!

R's Halted By Tractors...

Ipswich 2-0 QPR

An inspired second half substitution saw Ipswich end QPR's 4 match unbeaten run, with Jon Stead coming off the bench to score twice in three minutes to give the home side victory.

Technical issues at Lofty Towers have meant yet again that it has been tricky getting this report on line and apologies also for no pictures just yet, but the situation will be resolved very soon and normal service will be resumed in good time for next Saturday's clash with Cardiff.

Following the excellent result over Birmingham, myself, PK, Sam and Justin were all in confident and upbeat mood during the easy journey to Portman Road, despite, yet again, quite diabolical weather conditions and on arrival, managed to successfully sneak past four burley bouncers to get into a home fans only pub where the Everton/Fulham game, Madness on the dukebox and a fruit machine kept us entertained before we left to brave the elements once again.

Onto the game and with changes aplenty yet again, Rangers dominated the first half and hit the bar through Lee Cook's free-kick before Town keeper Richard Wright superbly denied Martin Rowlands and later in the half Daniel Parejo. Despite a half time interval dominated by the heavy handed behaviour of the Ispwich stewards (of which I will not go into), the feeling was still good and that Ipswich were definitely there for the taking.

But disappointingly, it was Ipswich improved after the break and to be fair to them, they had a real go. Rangers had to good chances to take the lead before Stead came off the bench and made an instant impact - heading home Gareth McAuley's cross at the second attempt, before nodding in his second from Owen Garvan's corner.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Hall, Parejo, Buzsaky (Ledesma 68), Rowlands, Connolly, Cook, Tommasi, Di Carmine (Blackstock 58). Subs: Cole, Mahon, Gorkss

Lofty's Man of the Match - Damion Stewart

In summary, yes, it was a disappointing result after the previous two games but you couldn't fault the commitment and effort from the team and after all, Ispwich arw a team that are very much in good form. Perhaps we could have gone 4-4-2 after the break and had a real go at Ipswich, but I'm hardly going to have a go at the tactics or indeed, Gareth Ainsworth in what is a difficult time for the club. It was just one of those games.

But to finish, we managed to catch a brief chat, albeit across cars with one of the R's players, who with respect to him, will remain unnamed - but his reaction when asked about why he wasn't playing and inevitably, who is picking the team at the moment(or words to that effect), spoke absolute volumes and it would NOT surprise me at all, to see a certain someone driving one of his Renault's himself in the Brazilian Grand Prix later...

We Only Need 10 Men...

QPR 1-0 Birmingham

Ten-man QPR produced a memorable display after a stunning 1-0 win over Birmingham City, with a 25 yard screamer from Samuel Di Carmine on 54 minutes.

I must apologise for the the extreme lateness of following up with this report, but unfortunately, I have had technical issues way beyond my control, which are still yet to be resolved, but I will plod on the best I can for now. Normal service will be resumed very soon.

Well by now, I guess we have all read the papers, seen the goal on TV, the highlights on QPR world etc and those who were there, have probably thawed out by now. So, with that in mind, I won't give you my usual ramblings, except to say, that this game really did have everything - good football, a stunning goal, an abysmal referee, controversy and freak weather. But above all else, this was Rangers best performance of the season so far, fantastic! Fantastic is also a word that could be used to describe the Loftus Road crowd on the night, also. The only sour point of course, was Mikele Liegertwood's harsh red card. Incidentally, the appeal today was rejected and Mikele now faces a 4 match ban! But remember, referee Mr Attwell can do no wrong and he let most of the Birmingham Premier League prima donnas dictate to him all night long - which made the result even sweeter!!

QPR: Cerny, Stewart, Hall, Leigertwood, Blackstock (Buzsaky 69), Rowlands, Connolly, Cook (Mahon 46), Tomassi, Ledesma, Di Carmine (Ephraim 74). Subs: Cole, Parejo.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Cerny, Stewart and Tomassi were all awesome for QPR, but the pride, the heart, the passion, the commitment and desire shown by the team on Tuesday night, can only mean that this particular award goes to - Queens Park Rangers F.C.

Ainsworth's R's Rock Reading...

Reading 0-0 QPR

Gareth Ainsworth celebrated his first game in charge with a hard-fought and much deserved point at Reading in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Well, it was all a bit weird today to be honest what with a late kick off and all. But personally, I am still bemused/upset/angry with the decision to sack Iain Dowie yesterday after just 15 games in charge. Hardly good preperation to take on high flying and free scoring Reading away and league leaders Birmingham on Tuesday. But with Gareth Ainsworth taking over as caretaker boss, one thing for sure is that you are guaranteed a fully committed performance from his team and that, it certainly was. Reading had a 100% home record before today, but that record is no more...

It all started well enough though with the journey being a breeze and was probably, the easiest so far for PK and the Henley mob. But the Rangers travelling support couldn't really have asked for any more today. Without getting into a debate of who is picking the team etc etc, the players today did themselves and the club proud.

There was still a little bit lacking from the R's in the final third but Buzsaky and Parejo brought good saves from Hahnemann in the Reading goal. Reading themselves had few chances and had a decent penalty shout turned away by referee Foy when Mahon clearly handled the ball in the area. Rangers had an appeal of their own late on, but to be honest, the dive from Parejo was so pathetic, I am surprised he wasn't shown a card for it. Why he chose to do that rather than put in a cross from what was a good position, I will never know?

QPR: Cerny, Leigertwood, Stewart, Hall, Connolly, Buzsaky, Mahon, Rowlands, Cook, Di Carmine (Blackstock 60), Parejo (Balanta 86).
Subs Not Used: Delaney, Tommasi, Cole.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Damion Stewart had an awesome game in the centre of defence and incidentally was voted Sky's man of the match. Leigertwood looked extremely comfortable in the right back position, but today's award, deservedly goes to R's keeper, Radek Cerny.

In summary, I am a lot happier now than I was yesterday. As mentioned, this was not only a very decent result but a fully deserved one. Reading were six out of six at home before today, scoring freely and we never really gave them a sniff at goal. Another tough test will come on Tuesday against Birmingham, but if Rangers show as much heart, passion and desire as they did at the Madjeski Stadium today, we will have little to complain about, whatever the result.

Congratulations Gaz!!

QPR Sack Iain Dowie...

Iain Dowie has today been sacked as QPR manager with Gareth Ainsworth taking over as caretaker manager for the trip to Reading on Saturday.

Dowie has won eight of his 15 matches in charge of QPR but has recently attracted criticism for negative team selections and poor performances. It has been reported that Dowie has had many fall outs with owner Flavio Briatore – falling out with him in the summer when he was refused money to purchase a striker and then again after the draw with Blackpool over team selection and tactics. It has also been said that Briatore has become more hands on with team matters over the past week, something else that Dowie has had to contend with. Personally, I am furious and QPR are becoming a laughing stock!

Good Luck Iain Dowie and thank you! You never really stood a chance!

and Good Luck Gaz, your certainly going to need it!!

QPR Take 'Liberty's' at Swansea...

Swansea 0-0 QPR

QPR gained a decent point away at Swansea, but according to reports, were more than fortunate to get away with a draw in a game that saw the home side play nearly 70 minutes with a centre back in goal.

A trip to South Wales midweek was sadly a bit too much for me at this and indeed, none of the gang made the trip, but on reading various reports, it does in fact seem that it was a poor performance from the R's, despite what IS, a good result and certainly one I would have taken before the kick off if offered. Obviously, I can't put any personal comments towards the game, but the BBC report probably speaks volumes to what I have been hearing and reading since the full time whistle...

Swansea maintained their unbeaten home record against Queens Park Rangers but had to do it with defender Alan Tate acting as a make-shift goalkeeper.

Stopper Dorus de Vries suffered a suspected broken jaw on 26 minutes after a challenge from Martin Rowlands that saw the QPR captain booked.

With no replacement on the bench it meant Tate was handed the task of replacing the injured Dutchman.

But QPR were unable to muster any real threat to test Tate between the sticks.

Iain Dowie's comments on the Official site, also pulled no punches...

We didn't play well, we didn't pass the ball well or retain it well enough.

They've had an outfield player playing in goal and we haven't tested him at all and that is not good enough.

For 70 minutes he's not done anything. But then we couldn't test him without the ball and Swansea moved it about well and made it difficult for us to get it back when we lost it.

On the injury to Swansea keeper, Dorus de Vries, Dowie added;

Martin's not that kind of player. The ball was there to be won but unfortunately he's caught him. We hope he makes a speedy recovery and wish him all the best.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon, Hall, Leigertwood, Blackstock, Buzsaky, Rowlands (Parejo 59), Ramage (Connolly (80), Cook (Ledesma (65).Subs: Cole, Balanta.

Friends Reunited as QPR beat Forest...

QPR 2-1 Nottingham Forest

After the much welcome International break, QPR returned with a welcome three points in what was a narrow, but deserved victory at Loftus Road.

Well, over the past few season, the gang of friends which have been very much an influence to what gets written on these pages, has dwindled somewhat for various reasons and many new friends have been happily found along the way. But today seemed very much like the old days as Paul, Darren and Billy returned to join us all and when we all met up at the Springbok before the game, it was like they had never been away. I only hope they continue to come back as the reunion continued at the British Queen after the game and a great time was certainly had by all!

Onto the game and as previously written, I had never before looked forward to an International break as much as I have the one just past and two good results and dare I say, performances from England made it even better. But we returned today for a fixture that I guess most were dreading, for the simple fact that it had a 'QPR' factor written all over it. Forest came into the game, bottom of the table, without an away win all season and without a goal in four. There could only be one result, surely? Confidence was not at all restored with the name of 'Andy Cole' being on the Forest team sheet and I don't think anyone needs reminding of Cole's last visit to Loftus Road...

After a largely forgettable first half, Rangers went ahead three minutes after half-time when Fitz Hall's long throw was headed on by Damien Delaney and Balanta's volley went in off the underside of the bar. It was 2-0 on the hour mark and again a Hall throw proved to be Forest's undoing. This time the defender's delivery from the right was cleared only as far as Buzsaky, who fired home from the edge of the penalty area.

The impressive Buzsaky sent another cracking shot inches over, before Cerny tipped away Nathan Tyson's 25-yard drive. Rangers at least kept loyal to one of their unfortunate traditions as Lewis McGugan pulled a goal back for Forest with a brilliant 30-yard free-kick, which made it an unnecessary, nervy final seven minutes.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Hall (Connolly 64), Leigertwood, Blackstock, Buzsaky (Mahon 90), Rowlands, Ramage, Cook, Balanta (Di Carmine 75). Subs: Camp, Ledesma.

Lofty's Man of the Match - 2 main contenders today, with the superb Buzsaky being one of them, but today's award goes to Fitz Hall, as depite leaving the game on 64 minutes, had in my opinion, his best game in a R's shirt to date.

In summary, this was an important win for QPR with two tough away games coming up next. With the recent dip in form, you could see that the confidence was lacking in the first half, but despite the narrow scoreline, Rangers dominated the second half. But to those disappointed with the progress so far - the win today has put us 6th in the table. This time last year, we were rock bottom with just one win and seven points...

QPR Left Singing the Blues...

Birmingham 1-0 QPR

Birmingham moved to the top of the Championship after a narrow 1-0 win over QPR, in what was a disappointing display from Iain Dowie's men in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

As mentioned, with the game being the lunchtime Sky offering, it meant an early start for myself and PK for what is a relatively easy away trip. Not so easy however, for the Henley mob who, after leaving their directions at home, had to follow us into Birmingham from Warwick Services. We arrived in plenty of time and after meeting up with the Leeds three, decided on a pre match at the local Subway after having discount vouchers literally thrown at us as we got out of the car and also, seeing as pubs are a bit of a no no around Birmingham.

Moving onto the game and it came as a bit of a surprise with all the defence of the 4-5-1 from Dowie, that he had selected a 4-4-2 formation in a game that was probably crying out for the 4-5-1. The brief match report from the BBC probably sums the game up perfectly, it reads...

Kevin Phillips grabbed his fourth goal of the season as Birmingham beat QPR to move top of the Championship.

The first half had lacked any serious goal threat until Phillips prodded in from close range just before the break.

QPR failed to muster any signs of being able to get an equaliser as the Blues defence comfortably held them at bay.

Birmingham were not at their best but the lack of ideas and urgency from QPR rarely troubled them as they secured a seventh win in 10 league games.

Not a bad summary, but I was actually pretty pleased with the R's first half performance and we certainly didn't deserve to be behind. Just before the break, Garry O'Connor latched on to the ball, evaded a somewhat half hearted tackle from Fitz Hall and put in a low cross which Phillips converted from close range.

Onto the second half and after containing Birmingham so well in the first, being behind would surely enforce the R's to come out and adopt a more attacking style and go for it - but it just did not materialise as Birmingham defended their slender advantage.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon (Buzsaky 68), Hall, Leigertwood, Blackstock, Agyemang, Rowlands (Ledesma 80), Ramage (Connolly 87), Cook. Subs: Camp, Parejo

Lofty's Man of the Match - Lee Cook - involved with everything that was good about QPR today and almost single handedly tried to breath some life into QPR this afternoon.

We now have an International break and have no game for 2 weeks. I can honestly say in all the years I have been watching football, that I am actually looking forward to having a week off next week. We return on the 18th October with a home game against bottom club, Nottingham Forest, who have yet to win away this year...

oh dear...

See you all then!!

Terrific???

QPR 1-1 Blackpool

A late Dexter Blackstock goal denied Blackpool another away win as Rangers stuttering form sadly continued at Loftus Road last night.

Apologies for the lateness of this round up, but on arriving back late last night, it wasn't really the time to write this one up, mainly, because I was angry!! Good in some ways that I have left it until now, but with so many changes already and happening at QPR this season, some things just never change. Rangers have followed up three good away performances, including the superb win at Villa, with two stuttering home showings.

Much has been said of the 4-5-1 formation that Iain Dowie seems to be favouring this term. When it works, it looks fantastic, but when it doesn't, it looks a complete shambles. So much so, the team were firmly booed from the field at half time, trailing to Gary Taylor-Fletcher's stunning 25-yard effort that looped over Radek Cerny.

Thankfully, Dowie shuffled the pack at half time and went 4-4-2, with Agyemang joining Blackstock up front. Liegertwood also joined the proceedings at the expense of the inneffective Parejo and Ledesma. Rangers looked so much better from there on but found the Blackpool rear guard holding firm. Lee Cook's low drive was tipped behind by Paul Rachubka before Blackstock's header was ruled out for pushing.

Akos Buszaky joined the game for the last twenty minutes and made an almost immediate impact as his free-kick cracked the crossbar on 79 minutes - Dexter Blackstock was on hand to nod home the rebound to bring the R's level.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon (Buzsaky 72), Hall, Parejo (Leigertwood 46), Blackstock, Rowlands, Ramage, Cook, Ledesma (Agyemang 46).Subs: Camp, Gorkss.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Lee Cook, getting fitter all the time and almost back to his best! Well done Cookie!

Others amongst the gang enjoyed the game, well, the second half anyway. Myself? I was annoyed, or maybe just deeply disappointed, whatever? I'm still not quite sure? I have to admit, that I wasn't exactly jumping for joy when Iain Dowie was appointed QPR's Manager in the Summer. But what I have always admired about Dowie is that he is an 'honest' and genuine Manager. Which later in the evening, made me stop and think after he described the R's performance as 'terrific' in the post match interview on Sky Sports News. With all the above in mind, just watch us now go up to second placed Birmingham on Saturday and play them off the pitch...

Finally, great to see Corp at the game again last night as he continues his recovery from illness. You seriously must be wondering what we have all be going on about, eh mate? And last but not least, a belated Happy Birthday to PK who was... (how old mate?) yesterday!!

QPR Suffer Ram Raid...

QPR 0-2 Derby

QPR's 100% home record came to an abrupt end this afternoon with two late goals, but in all honesty, it was a comfortable enough victory for the Rams in a game where Rangers were never really at the races...

Well, before I go on, I would like to make a Special mention to 'Corp', who made his first appearance of the season due to a neck injury - Great to see you back mate!

Moving on and after the R's triumph at Aston Villa, the mood became even more upbeat around Loftus Road after the draw for the fourth round of the Carling Cup was made - QPR will now travel to Old Trafford to take on Premier League and European Champions, Manchester United.

This is a fantastic draw for QPR and the game will be played in the week commencing 10th November.

The draw certainly lifted the Loftus Road crowd who were singing in the early stages about the trip to Old Trafford. Of course, many of you will be aware that there was a protest planned today with regards to the increase in ticket prices, this was eventually cancelled after the Football League supported Derby's appeal against their supporters paying £40 and in turn, the QPR fans prices were also returned to normal in the Loft end. Several fans groups have met with the Club and have aired their views, we can only hope now that the Club will actually listen.

Onto the game and many were wondering if we would get an 'After The Lord Mayors Show' type of performance and that, we did. In fact, when reading many of the previews and seeing that Derby had not won away from home in 18 months, there could only be one outcome really...

In an extremely dull first half, Rangers best chance fell to lone striker Dexter Blackstock on 22 minutes following unselfish work from Parejo, but right-back Paul Connelly slid in to stop what looked a certain goal. The second half began lively enough and Rangers went for it early on with Ledesma and Blackstock both hitting the post. But as mentioned earlier, Rangers were never really at the races today and Derby clinched the points late on with goals from Albrechtsen and Villa.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Mahon (Leigertwood 70), Hall, Parejo, Blackstock, Buzsaky (Cook 55), Rowlands, Connolly, Ledesma (Agyemang 77). Subs: Camp, Ramage.

Lofty's Man of the Match - another awesome performance from Damion Stewart

To sum up, all credit to Derby. Paul Jewell had obvioulsy done their homework, they were fired up and thoroughly deserved their victory. Personally, I think Iain Dowie got things wrong today with his tactics and his substitutions, especially not to bring off Daniel Parejo who was having a dreadful match - but I'm not starting to panic or start having a go just yet - it just didn't happen for us today.

To finish, well, we have all heard and read about the increase in ticket prices of which Derby at first, refused their allocation and every respect for them for doing so. But the chant from the away end towards the end of the game (to the pigbag tune) of Greedy B******S!! was warmly received from the R's fans that were left in the stadium.

QPR Rob The Villans...

Aston Villa 0 QPR 1

QPR won a place in uncharted territory and a place in the 4th Round of the Carling Cup, with a sensational 1-0 win at 4th in the Premier League, Aston Villa. The vital goal came in the 58th minute as Damion Stewart superbly headed home Daniel Parejo's cross from the right.

Photobucket

This was just an amazing night and I can't even begin to sum this one up at 2 in the morning. But what more can anyone say about such a great night and result for QPR!?!? Myself, PK and the Henly mob were all in attendance and we just couldn't stop smiling all the way home! It was a wonderful birthday present for Sam and Leeroy also had the bonus of a 33/1 first goalscorer winner, good on you mate!!

I feel on this occasion, that pictures will speak more than a thousand words...
